Is it really necessary to have a screen protector?

I have always went with the rule of case and screen protector. Every phone for about the past 8 years or so. I have always used zagg invisible shield film and typically otterbox commuter. I used 1 tempered glass protector on my note 3. I dropped the phone one day and the tempered glass cracked, not the screen. When I got my note 8 a couple weeks ago, I ran with a spigen case. I was stuck on choosing a screen protector (I have read that the edges are issues with film) or a tempered glass and rolled the dice with the latest zagg tempered glass. The Elite curve. I'm not sure what is different from the curve tempered glass that's not elite. It does take some getting used to with the way it stops on the edges on the screen. It is case friendly so there is a slight gap on both sides. It does not affect the use of the edge panels. Installation with the template was a breeze, 10 minutes or so to massage out the air bubbles.

The screen protector on the phone. Did the jig line up the glass correctly? Because others have started not to use the alignment tool.
Yeah it lined it up properly. Top and bottom. The right and left side have equal amount of gap. So I would say the jig lined it up as Zagg has intended. The problem is the black border on the tempered glass. I assume it's a necessity for the the design of it. But because of it, the gap is noticeable. The tempered glass itself has to stop short of the end of the edge screen to be case friendly. I get that too. So because of this and the black border, it is noticeable. It doesn't mess with functionality though. And after 24 hours no issues with bubbles reappearing or glass unsticking.i can live with the gap. For the sake of the phone. I know that some won't tolerate it. If I get around to it, I'll get some pics of it and post it.

A couple days late. So, with the angles that I took the pics with, it looks slightly uneven on one side from the other. However, I feel that the guide they provided lined it up perfectly. Top, bottom, left and right. None of this bothers me after a few days of using the phone. The only time you notice the gap on the sides from a similar angle as pictured, isn't necessarily how you would be using the phone. Everyday use of it looking at the phone straight on, and the sides are not noticeable. I would say that I put the guide on and took it off a couple times before installing. just to make sure it was snug in its placement. I have seen some people say that their installation was slightly crooked, but I didnt encounter this. At $50, the purchase was questionable, but I couldnt stand not to have something on it and felt tempered glass was the best option. No sensitivity issues, edges work as they should and minus the small amount of lint catching at the top and bottom I have zero complaints.

Great protection and classy.

I always run a protectors. Better safe then sorry.
I take very good care of my stuff. If a scratch did happen you cant take it back. So there would be no way ti fit it without buying a no front glass or new phone.
With a protector you can simply remove it and put on another one.
I had a screen protector that cost me $50.00 and I saw a smudge on it and ran a drop of alcohol on a microfiber cloth and it ripped.
Didn't give me any confidence going forward.
I got rid of it and purchased this case.
Gives me piece of mind and it fits great and looks great.
I wanted to upload a photo, but I don't see an option for that.
It's the Ocase that I got from Amazon.
I also purchased the Otter Box case but feel better with the front protection of the Ocase.

Not all film equal. My film Tech21 built for impact. Plenty of videos and reviews to back it up. I would call bs befofe if someone told me film can take impacts. Use to only rip temper as well.

I've experienced direct hits from objects with no cracks. There's plenty of crap films I agree and not good for impacts. Film does suck for fingerprint smudges. I would also add good for scratches. Some say it's not, but disagree.

Impact test and scratch test.
Infused bulletproof film screen protector

This is the same Tech21 film sold by T-Mobile correct? In any case, since it seems people complain about film suck for fingerprints and is not as smooth as glass for their fingers but it seems to have better coverage for the phone as it goes all the way to the edge and it does have the cutouts for the camera and sensors, correct? Couldn't one just apply liquid glass on top of the Tech21 film and basically get the smoothness back and also help with the fingerprint problem?

Yes but don't buy from them in less you like over paying. They charge $40+ for tech21 protector. Go Ebay cheaper. Got mine new sealed in box $20 shipped. I would say it has a notch cut out shape. So now that you point it out doesn't protect cam lens speaker.

That area close to top lip which has bumper. So wouldn't be to worried about that. That liquid stuff I don't know to much about. So I will let someone else who knows more about that answer.

Just Google tech21 screen protector and will give you ideal of the shape it covers.

Yeah, just wanted to make sure we were talking about the same Tech21, have you heard of Simply Carbon Fiber (SCF) which seems to have their own film that is not glass as well. The only films I have actually used were from Best Skins Ever and ZAGG's Invisible Shield but that was 5+ years ago. The liquid stuff seems to only handle minimal scratch so it might be ideal for the areas that the tech21 doesn't cover as it's better than without it but since it's supposedly the same feel as the screen itself, it might work well on top of the Tech 21 to improve the glide and also the smoothness of the tech21.

My note is about a week old, so I figured it was time for a screen protector. Installed a Spigen ultra flex last night. I have to say I'm not liking it, feels plastic on the screen, and it's certainly not ultra clear, there's is a real glaze over the screen.

Not sure what I'm going to do long term. Maybe a flip case and go without a screen protector!

That's what she looks like! I'll admit, I ordered one before doing my homework, shame on me.

Even better than your picture, I can see my notes on the protector from an earlier meeting!!!

Going naked at the end of the week, Samsung branded flip case instead.

Just get a Skinomi or illumishield. They are much smoother. Or for more a Tech21 plastic glass like film. I heard they are good also.

The pic I posted was on wife's Note 8. She still has hers on LoL

I bought a Whitestone Dome Screen protector and besides it being the most intense installation process of my life it worked out about a month ago when i dropped my phone on a concrete step and the protector completely shattered and i was able to peel it off and have a perfectly undamaged screen underneath... I'm out of $40 for the glass protector but that's better than being out of $300 for an entirely new screen replacement.

I have a Supcase Unicorn Bettle Pro case, built-in plastic screen protector deleted, Slickwraps film on back & rear camera. I've tried Supcase's own tempered glass (edge adhesive) that fits like all the other currently sold edges adhesive glasses...gaps between the screen and protector FAIL.

I think for now, I'll settle for a softer style screen film that can still work without the S-Pen chewing it up.

My thinking is the resell value. I've sold 2 devices if Swappa. Any kind of scratches devalues the resell value. So heavy duty cases and screen protectors for this guy.

I use the same combination, edge adhesive only, the 1st 1 got damaged when i tried to open the case. Hence had to get another 1, this 1 fits more better and less gap between screen and protector. Somehow i can t bring myself to use with a nude screen! even a small air scratch upsets me!
