Is it true that the Kirin 960 = SD 820/821?

I heard a youtuber called Floss claimed that the Kirin 960 is exactly the same as the SD 820/821.

Is that really true?

Currently using Sony XZ I bought two months ago as a temp phone until the new Sony XZ Premium comes out next month but I also had this phone on the radar.

But why would I buy this phone if the above is true and not just wait for Premium with SD 835?

Thanks.

I think you meant SD 820, 821 & 835.

Here is a good comparison (SD821 & Kirin960 included) with benchmarks by a respected site - if you have limited time, just read the Wrap-up near the bottom (last 6 paragraphs):
SoC showdown 2016: Snapdragon 821 vs Exynos 8890 vs MediaTek Helio X25 vs Kirin 960

In everyday usage, you'll not be able to tell between these or the SD835. The Sony XZ Premium seems a bit gimmicky to me with a totally unnecessary 4K screen - the relatively average 3230mAh is likely to take a beating because of this.
