Is the 3T still worth picking up right now?

no , i would recommend you to go for mi a1 if you strictly want the stock android xp when you own an s8
or if you have budget you can go for oneplus 5
Will the mi a1 have good developer support?
And also, why do you not think the 3T is a good idea? I can get it for only 100 NZD more

Somewhere
I'd say the 3T is still a pretty solid option right now. But if you can add in a few more bucks, I'd suggest the 5T instead. Phones with18:9 display with dual cameras are hot right now, the 5T has them both and a lot more.

As for your other question, some Xiaomi devices do have a lot of custom support, like the kenzo, it's one of the most popular devices on xda.
But on the other hand, Xiaomi still hasn't released Kernel sources for the A1 so there wont be any custom development until they do.

But if your main focus is on custom development support then go for something with Project Treble. That thing is going to change everything.

A1 instead of 3T, seriously??
Had it before the 3T and can't recommend!
Very laggy and no development until Xiaomi releases the source.

Bang for Buck? 3T
Community development for 3 or more years? OnePlus (3T)
Near stock Android with small tidbits of OxygenOS goodies? 3T

But if you have the budget, 5T it is. Strict budget? 3T.

Yeah I don't have the budget for the 5T and in fact it isn't even out in my country yet. The 5 is too much too so I guess the 3T is the best option

Yeah I definitely want the community support. Thanks I guess I'll buy the 3T
The 3T section was the most active one on XDA for some time. Forum activity has probably surpassed by the OP5 (and soon to be 5T) at this point. But if you can't afford, or don't want the newer iterations; then the 3T is definitely the way to do in terms of community. It will be supported here for a long time to come, for sure.

which is slightly more than 300 USD (right?), I would still buy it for this price.
I guess the new 5T is 700+ NZD right?
Try 1k lol. The S8 sells for 1.3k the note for 1.6-7 the iPhone X 1.8K

We get ripped off hard. I'm lucky my parents can afford to get me flagship phones.
