I'm considering purchasing this, but Im worried about vivo policy of not supporting unlock because it requires root. so think unlocking is realistically difficult?

I don't know much about x90+ but considering that unlock was only possible on X80 pro on the 1st version of W10 models (12.0.10.5) using modified software and requiring some kind of 'hack' (sending 2 files at the same time from 2 terminals) and that this exploit was fixes basically for every single release after, I'd say that root isn't going to happen on x90 (at least not using the same method)

I am considering purchasing x90 pro+ and the Xiaomi 13 Pro. However, I think I will have to purchase it with Xiaomi 13 Pro because of the unlock.

Be careful with frequencies and bands. Not all are supported by Xiaomi in China. Vivo does.

If you are european, careful. Check you carrier bands as Xiaomi tends to miss at least one major 4G band lately.

Can someone who already owns the device confirm whether "OK Google" or "Android auto" work with the device?
on x90 pro+ i see in dev options OEM Unlock and is described as bootloader unlock, can anyone confirm that I can install funtouch on it once is released>?
I doubt it. OEM Unlock option is indeed there, however the actual commands in fastboot to unlock the bootloader do NOT work.
Unless Pervokur pulls another one of his magic tricks bootloader unlock will NOT be possible.
Besides that, converting your device from OriginOS to Funtouch bares a huge brick risk and certain things are not working on the x70 pro+.

Same here, althouh side by side the Vivo seems to be a superior device to the Xiaomi.
As will I. I'm not going to go through another two years of not having root access to a device that cost me over AU$1200 to buy outright.
I'm confident one of the developers here will create a rooting solution soon, if they haven't already, especially when from all the reviews I've seen so far about the X90 Pro+ IMHO it's going to be one of the top five selling smartphones this year.

Since people can install com.vivo.vtool then you can try to dig firmware with uid1000. Internationally the X90 and X90 pro will not sell at all, due to being overpriced like crazy. And in China other phones seem to be selling much better too. The x90 pro+ will be rather exotic - Vivo mainly sells cheap stuff in China. Samsung, Apple, Oppo and Xiaomi are the main brands for flagships in China.1But currently vivo has amongst the worst and unreliable OS which exists. Even rooting won't solve this as on a custom ROM camera won't work well.
Google and Apple demonstrate that mid level hardware with good software beats best hardware...
Samsung Galaxy ultra are hardware wise usually also top of the game (so far they just suffered from the Samsung node processors).
And Samsung has a reliable update policy, while vivo after 2 years already goes haywire with infrequent updates on flagships -
