Is the Xoom really worth buying right now? I love the sound from the unit but...

lol I actually did , she couldn't get the keyboard to pop up, I dunno if she bought the xoom, but last year I helped a lady buy a Toshiba laptop and I dont even work at best buy :D

don't think the sales man was happy I talked her out of having the geek squad making her back up disks for a extra 75 bucks ... I thought that was ridiculous of best buy to rip people off like that so i wrote down the instructions for her on how to do it her self for nothing lol
You're a good man, SuicideMyk.

Didn't even know about that, but apparently verizon wants more money to do that -_-. Guess I'll continue using bluetooth...
If I'm not mistaken, you can usb tether if you are rooted...I think it saves battery and since the phone doesn't have to be.a hotspot, you should save on carrier charges as well.

Not to detract from my OP - but that was a good thing for you to do SuicideMyk.

It says a lot about our society in general...and it makes me wonder where business ethics have gone. Im sure it would have cost that old lady the same amount of money to have teach her how to do that task unfortunately so maybe in this case that 75 dollar purchase is justified...because I can see the situation unfold in front of my eyes right now.

But if you did that for my grandmother before she passed away - even just the effort alone is worth it. Good man.

I think it's worth it. Just keep in mind that the ports are in a surprisingly inconvenient location when you have the Xoom propped up on a stand. A problem I face more often now that the device has USB hosting capability.

Wouldnt you just be able to turn the unit upside down?

And thanks for that NewEgg link! I can use it for price match because we purchased it though another store.

Unless your using a charging dock you can use it upside down, and have easy access to the ports.

Amazon.com has them right now for $479 and they have a 20% off promotion using code BTS20OFF. Just ordered one yesterday for $383.20 with free shipping. For a dual core 10.1" tablet with 32GB of storage that's a great deal right now. The other nice thing about the Xoom is that they're getting the newest Honeycomb releases since the Xoom was the first on board with Google. Motorola also has a good accessory line for the Xoom. If you aren't going to get an iPad then I think the Xoom is the way to go. Maybe that will change when I get mine but that's my opinion as of right now.

$479? When did you order? I checked last night and it was $439 and I just placed an order with that coupon for a total of $350. And of course $40 from the gift balance they give you from signing up for the card.

I ordered at around 10p on the 29th. I already had the Amazon card so I'll just get the points (3x points for all Amazon purchases) but that sucks that they dropped the price $40 right after I ordered. I won't complain too much about $383 but it's a little irritating that I haven't even gotten it yet and the price dropped like that.

I would definitely say its worth it to pick up a Xoom. I personally LOVE the build quality of it. It feels sturdy and I love the weight of it. Yes its heavy but its overbearing. Honeycomb is amazing and it has almost made my laptop useless. I can do everything on my Xoom that I can do on either of my laptops. The best thing about the Xoom though is that its the Google official Honeycomb device. Everything else is behind it software wise. All of the other devices that have 3.2 Roms are all using ports from the Xoom. It will always have the latest and greatest software first.

I can turn it upside down but then I have issues with my headphones. I've since gotten bluetooth headphones and it's not a problem. If your headphones have an L shaped plug then they will work. Mine would stick straight out.

Yes, mine too, so BT headphones work well in that configuration.

We're a pretty crafty bunch...we can work it out...

Just go on Amazon live chat and tell them that you want the $40 credited and they'll do it. Especially since they seemed to have lowered the price literally minutes after you ordered.
