Is this phone pretty much dead on launch as far as the dev community goes?

It seems the problem with the device is the UI. I got my mother an Asus tablet. Any part of using software that deals with the UI is buggy and bogs down. It's really amazing they allow this to happen. It isn't just this Zenfone but across many devices. If I could easily get rid of apps I don't want I most likely wouldn't even bother with rooting.
