Issue #2: crazy battery behaviours

Damn, I just read up this thread after my return period passed.

So, it might happen to any Moto Z, not only with unlocked bootloader?

Maybe any idea if using turbopack mod continuously in efficiency mode will really preserve battery or make it worse?

I think I got a battery problem too. Whenever I'm using the phone and it reaches around 35% it suddenly shuts off. But when I restart it or plug it in, it works normally. Is this a common Moto Z problem? I'm worried that Motorola Philippines won't honor the warranty because I've got a two minor dents on the sides of my phone. They might ignore the warranty and claim that the battery problem was caused by the phone falling down.

Awesome!, Exactly same here
and after a while my 30% went to 40% then 60% now it's on 100%
my phone can only be turned on for 24 secounds

i want to order new battery :|
battery mod is helping me to keep my device on.
Alright, a Motorola Rep stopped by my workplace yesterday (cause I sell phones), and I talked to him about this issue and gave him the link to this thread, he said he'll include it in his weekly report. Here's hoping we can get some clearer answers.

My phone has gone back into the repair centre. My turbopower moto mod has just arrived, so hopefully with a new battery (fingers crossed) and the extra power it will bring a new lease of life. I also ordered a Verizon bumper from the US,to complete the new look. The turbopower mod is a real step forward in design from the Incipio model, it both looks and feels great.

I read somewhere here on the forums the instructions for resetting battery stats for Moto Z :
Hold power button until screen turns off
Enter bootloader by holding vol down
Turn off phone and keep it in the charger for 1-2 hours AFTER it reach 100%
Can anyone with a horrible battery life try this and tell us if there's any difference, because I couldn't tell if I was getting better battery

My phone usually lasts a whole work day usually with 2-3 SOT
I'm trying it now. I'll let you know. I just got my hands on an MZ. Nice phone, very buggy it looks like.

Edit: @Vcek this method worked for my phone.

Anybody found a solution to this yet? My phone last for an hour with heavy use but switches itself off if not charged. Greenify has been a little helpful with screen off time.

There are reports, that by reflashing the full flash image, the situation will be better. Here is an example how to do it.
But you should be careful, selecting the correct rom for your device.

Having same errors here... 7.1.1 reteu with latest security patches of september, I just wanted to know if there are equal failures in the community and then this thread. ;)
This cannot be a battery failure for us all, I think there is a software bug somewhere... That's a typical behavior, other brands had such symptoms too and after a patch all was fine. Hope that moto will look at their "old" model too :/

Finally sent it to the service center, last update they said that they will diagnose it first and see if it is still under warranty. The frustrating part is that it is still under a year and they mentioned that battery warranty is for 6 months only, which is bullshit because the warranty card said that embedded battery should be covered for a year!

The service center closest to me told me it will take a month for the spare battery to arrive lol Took my phone back and placed the order anyways. But 1 month is too damn long. Wish Motorola could improve on this aspect. The last Samsung Note i had, they repaired my crack display in a matter of days. I might likely go back to Samsung, even considering Mi Mix 2.

Yup. If my phone will be fixed, I might as well sell it and go for the LG V30, G6 or V20. Not really a fan of Samsung, or if I'd go the Samsung route, I'll most likely put Nova Launcher on it and make it look like the Z's interface.

My phone came back from the UK repair centre with a new battery this time (i believe). Accubattery was showing a capacity estimate a little over 2600mah, so that's already a major improvement! Back at the intended spec i've been using the phone with and without turbopower mod (on efficiency mode) and not had to obsess about battery life at all this last few days.

As an aside, I really like the combination of the phone and the Verizon bumper that i ordered from the US. The supplied black herringbone battery back/cover goes well with it, as does the textured plastic of the turbopower mod. With the new mod the phone feels slimmer than i thought it might. I have previously used the Otterbox commuter case and like the options i now have with the black and grey bumper.

Battery life now as it should be, but both bluetooth and NFC no longer work. What do they do with these phones in the service centre?

I've been told to book another warranty repair. FFS!

According to Accubattery I have 1042 mAh left in the battery.
And it tends to auto shut off whenever it reaches 44%.

Thankfully a battery replacement with a local shop is relatively cheap.

What a saga. Motorola have come back to me today to dispute that the broken bluetooth and NFC (while they were replacing the battery) are a warranty repair and they need proof of purchase again. They've had the phone three times since September and almost a week this time (in what was explained by their support team as an "expedited repair"). Expedited my arse!

Motorola and Lenovo have already cost me two months of use and multiple hours spent resetting and again testing this phone, so I've asked them to confirm that they'll honour the EU requirement to provide 24 months warranty (as they do in the rest of the EU but not the UK), and will give me two months additional warranty once they've repaired and returned the phone. If they don't agree I will know what a bunch of no-hopers they really are and buy elsewhere in future.

I remember some years ago posting an HTC One X for repair one Monday and receiving it back and working on the Wednesday. That was not an expedited repair.

As and when i get this sorted out I will let you know :)

I've been without the phone since 6th November, as they clearly don't have parts to repair the bluetooth/NFC fault caused when they swapped the battery. Last week they called me to say they'd try to replace the phone. As i haven't heard anything further I've asked them today to replace the phone with a Z2 Force.

---------- Post added at 05:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:56 PM ----------

I've been offered a new Z2 Play. What would you do? It's a mid range phone to replace an 8 month old former flagship model. My mods will work and i'll get a headphone jack again, but it's a worse screen and processor and my case and screen protectors will be heading for ebay. Decision day is tomorrow.
