And the answer is: an application called "Handcent Next SMS" was the culprit, found and tested by removing apps one by one. I'm in the market for a decent replacement if anyone is in the mood for suggestions.
I suggest Textra. I have been using it for a long time and it satisfies all my needs. Give it try.

Thanks! I'd downloaded it and was about to try it. Pulse, a different app I'm testing now, looks interesting; the developer has a subscription to servers that let you use SMS with non-telco equipment, e.g., tablets.

Hi guys! How can I disable double click on hardware button *back* to exit the APP? I searched for information through the thread but I could not find the solution...
On another Rom I have the option to enable that by long pressing the back button. It is at the end of Developer Options. Look there, who knows?

can't check right now as magisk is bootlooping phone. kill on long press of back key is near the end of developer options. hardware buttons have their own section in settings called buttons.

on the subject magisk, is there an official recommended way to update it for this rom ?

I do not want to kill the process by pressing the return button, and the option is disabled in development options. I mean that right now if I'm inside an app (for example whatsapp, chatting) and I pulse twice in a row BACK, the key acts as if I pressed the home button, the application is still in the background.

(In Spanish, my native language...

Magisk 15.x update without bootloop

on the subject magisk, is there an official recommended way to update it for this rom ?

Well I tried a lot of ways...
What did work is to de-install the old manager version and then reboot and install the new manager and then the new zip file inside the new manager.
But this is dangerous, because you lose the superuser in between!! Be sure to have an actual TWRP backup.
For a quick solution boot into TWRP and restore only boot from your backup. This will stop the loop.

The problem with the boot loop appeared since Version 15.x
--------------
Is there any change that this project will get the updates against Meltdown and Spectre? (see h**ps://support.google.com/faqs/answer/7622138)

didn't think Qualcomm chips were involved.
I've just got to reflash the complete system partition. I wanna avoid it happening for a 3rd time rather then keep fixing it.

Hello folks,

I wanted to give AOSP 7.1.2 a try before heading on to Oreo. So I installed the last version on Galaxy S4 Play Edition (i-9505G). It working well and I really liked it.

The only problem is, I can not get my data working. I played around with APN, contacted Airvoice Wireless (att MVNO), tried every possible setting, asked them to reset data from their end, but the thing wouldn't work.
I tried it on my wife's phone and the data works without any hassle.

Anyone knows any setting I may be missing?

Many thanks in advance.

Edit: The issue seems to be related to this ROM. I restored to android 5.0 (LRX21P.S012.141205) and the data works flawlessly.

Help!

hello to all, I would have a small problem on my samsung galaxy s4 I9505, in practice the rom and gapps I install them (version Oreo 8.1), but when I go to configure it I remain stuck on the screen "check for updates", and I do not know where to proceed. I tried everything to re-download the rom and the gapp and also to wait 30 minutes, but nothing I do not want to know. continues to remain still on the update screen, performing the search indefinitely. if by chance you have any advice on how to help me, I would be happy to listen to you xD, thanks ;)

did you post in the wrong thread ??? that happened to me on an OREO ROM, this is nougat though.

that's if you mean you couldn't sign in to your google account, play services was sending zero data out to google servers. I gave up and flashed this rom instead as nobody had any suggestions to offer.

can I update android security patch level to the latest?
I've wondered that myself. This project uses mostly upstream sources so I thought, maybe. The default.xml specifies Android 7.1.2 r29, so I edited that to r36 (the latest), but then repo sync failed that it couldn't find that tag.

I'm not a Dev, so maybe someone can correct me. I think the forked repos are based on r29 which is why they failed to sync when I set remote ref tag to r36. So to get the latest upstream code we'd have to switch repos to the non-forked. Which will probably break things, I dunno, BB isn't really around to answer those kinds of questions.

Hope the dudes OK, he kind of disappeared abruptly in Dec.

I'm guessing everyone has moved on and nobody particularly cares anymore, however...

regarding accessing the external SDcard, my experience seems different from others in this thread
I can see my card in 3rd party apps, I just can't write to it or delete from it (unless in the case of my file browser I go thru root/storage which works fine).

trying to delete files directly from the external SDcard gives the following toast

Code:
no activity found to handle intent
{ act=android.os.storage.action.OPEN_EXTERNAL_DIRECTORY (has extras) }

any thoughts or suggestions on a fix out there ?

    What is AOSP?
AOSP is Android as Google publish without other modifications. More or less AOSP is the Nexus devices stock rom without gapps. Anyway to get a working system I' ve added some changes from CyanogenMod and Codeaurora.
Please do not ask for features to be added because we're not going to add more to keep this ROM small, fast and pure.

TWRP Recovery v3.0.0-0 with F2FS support (JDC Themed): RomHut

    Installation
TWRP Recovery v3.0.0-0 with F2FS support (JDC Themed) is suggested for installation

    Device variants supported: I9505, I9505G, I9507, I9508, I337, M919, I545, R970, L720, S970G, S975L.
Do not ask if it works on 9500, 9506, 9515... or any other phone model that is not a variant of 9505!!

AT&T and Verizon users: since your bootloader is locked, you must be on the UCUAMDB or UCUAMDL bootloader if you own an AT&T phone, otherwise if Verizon you must be on the VRUAMDK bootloader in order to use this ROM. Do getprop ro.bootloader in Terminal Emulator or through ADB shell to find out which bootloader you have

    First time or clean install:
    1. Download the ROM from the link above
    2. Download GApps package for Nougat 7.1
    3. [OPTIONAL] Download ThemeReady GApps package for N arm
    4. Put the zip files on your SDCard
    5. Reboot in Recovery
    6. Wipe Data / Factory Reset
    7. Optional: convert to F2FS
    8. Select "Install zip from SDCard"
    9. Choose AOSP ROM zip file
    10. Choose GApps zip file
    11. Choose TBO Theme Ready Gapps zip file (needed for complete theming of some Gapps with OMS overlays)
    12. Flash
    13. Reboot system

Update over an existing previous AOSP N build:

    Via OTA Updates:
    1. Open OTA Updates app
    2. Download the update
    3. Press "Install"
Your device will automatically reboot and install the update.

    Manual update with TWRP:
    1. Download updated build from the link above
    2. Put the zip files on your SDCard
    3. Reboot in TWRP Recovery
    4. Select "Install zip from SDCard"
    5. Choose AOSP ROM zip file
    6. Flash
    7. Reboot system

NOTE: the "dirty" flash to update an existing version DO NOT NEED any new re-flash of Gapps and TBO... integrated BackupTool during rom install will backup your gapps (already installed) and restore them after rom update!

NOTE: This ROM is dex-preoptimized, so do not wipe cache and Dalvik after rom flash!

First boot after install/update takes a while, wait at least 5 minutes for it to boot.

To convert cache, data and system partitions to F2FS look in post below.

    General notes
    • Rom is pre-rooted and has Magisk v13.0 beta integrated
    • Theming: rom has from this build the new SUBSTRATUM THEME ENGINE. Use the integrated Substratum app to apply OMS overlays (OverlaysManagerService).

    • We use 5.1 blobs for radio interface. Update your phone to latest Baseband and Bootloader available for your variant (must be a version 5.0 official Baseband)

    Using F2FS
    What it is? Wikipedia

To use it you should first convert your EXT4 partitions through recovery, before installing this ROM.

    1. Download and install this TWRP version: https://romhut.com/addons/twrp-2-8-7-2-f2fs
    2. Wipe->advanced wipe
    3. Select data->change or repair file system->f2fs (Warning: internal storage is formatted, make a backup of your personal data before doing this!)
    4. Select cache->change or repair file system->f2fs

No need to convert /system as it is basically read-only, therefore better to keep it as ext4.

Now you can install this ROM following installation steps in post above
