The pixel/Nexus phones will always be faster. And with each update the device usually becomes more responsive. The Nexus 7 2012 was the only device I had that got worse

Got my S8+ yesterday around 1030, got everything transferred (wanted to be same as pixel) and charged it up to full got around 4 1/2-5 hours SOT my guess because I didnt use for full day. Today used it as normal, fb, messenger spotify etc and was getting about what my Pixel does. Screen is amazing hands down. But I have already switched back to my Pixel. Just feels quicker to me yet even tho it didnt seem to lag or anything to me which I'm very picky with. Returned N7 3 times to test it against 6P and 6P won every time. As ugly as the Pixel is compared to it, I just couldnt stay away. My cousin is still using his N4, and asked how i liked it, told him for him it will prob feel like the greatest phone he's every touched but coming from Pixel XL to that I couldnt justify spending the money on it. The AKG earbuds were a nice addition to the phone and gonna be kinda sad to see them go because they were really comfortable for me, cant find a pair of earbuds that I like. All in all, I'm ready to see what Google can pull out for the Pixel 2 as I feel I'm stuck for Pixel for forceable future.

Seriously you just don't know about profile GPU rendering or what, and I don't mean that guy who doesn't know anything about android and stuffs, but others too! Damn.
.
Chill out, man.
what are you, 4 years old?

I saw a screenshot detached of any context, and I asked what it is.
It could be a comparison of CPU, GPU, network activity, or whatnot. I was interested to know.
Nothing more.

I thank you for the answer, but I do not appreciate your tone.

Well if you take my tone in a wrong way then that's your problem. And completely agree on the XDA's age going down part.

"Touchwiz is still a janky lag-fest. Despite the faster processor, the Google Pixel is a smoother, faster-feeling device." Arstechnica review
If you only care about the smoothness of the phone, you should probably get an iPhone - just like Pixel, it doesn't do much in terms of hardware and software, so it's even smoother than the Pixel.

Had my S8+ for almost a week now. I do find myself missing the Pixel XL I had. It was smoother. The S8+ doesn't lag hard, but it drops frames and just gives off the appearance of being laggy, even though it's really not, and it bothers me. I also really miss the fingerprint scanner on my Pixel XL which worked perfect every time. I rarely use the scanner on the S8+ because it's small and hard to reach. I also find that it's a lot more difficult to use the entire screen than it was on my Pixel XL, particularly reaching the top of the display. I also preferred the photos my Pixel would capture as they seemed slightly better at times, but it's really nitpicking comparing the 2.

With that said, there are still a lot of things I enjoy about the S8+. The display is fantastic, obviously. Wireless charging is neat, but not necessary to me. I enjoy having water resistance again. I enjoy the always on display. I love the design. I love the added features, and Samsung Pay.

The Pixel is really just as smooth as the iPhone.

I, too, also jumped ship to an S8+ and to be honest in it has been a total disaster. Let us clear the water now. I am not a Samsung hater. I have used every Galaxy device except for the S2. I have a serious amount of love for both their hardware design and ambitions to invoate. With that being said...

I preordered the Galaxy S8+ on T-Mobile. Orchid Gray model. My preorder device was met with an incredible amount of frame-rate loss in the OS for relatively non-GPU intensive tasks such as simple menu scrolling and the notification shade as others have complained. I suspect that the GPU, albeit current, simply isn't "there" yet when it comes to pushing all the pixels in the infinity display. There isn't latency per-say. The Snapdragon 835 zooms along like a champ, but, the GPU seems easily bogged down from almost the point of powering on the device. I suspect that the display is simply too far ahead of the SoC curve. This feels more like the transitional device we saw in the Galaxy S6, rather than the polished product we had with the S7/Edge models. The bogged down GPU creates the appearance of significant OS "jank" which gives the illusion of lag, even though it is nothing more than a weak sauce GPU. I find myself justified in this assumption by Samsung's choice to artificially shackle their flagship display on their flagship device to a simple 1080p, rather than allowing it to shine. Samsung is no stranger to bragging which makes this all the more curious of choices. They use the excuse of battery savings but running it at full resolution doesn't necessarily hurt the battery so much more as it results in even more what I assume to be GPU related stuttering. Please note that I also severely de-bloated my device using Package Disabler Pro as well as switched to the much simpler Nova Pro launcher in hopes that it would solve my frame rate issues. Didn't help. My preordered device also featured a faulty microphone which prevented people from hearing me entirely unless I was on speakerphone which made it just barely usable. I was also having severe radio data related issues with my model. I was averaging about 0.24 MBS with a 30-35 ms Ping in an area where even the Pixel could muster at least 5MB down consistently during a point of the day with high network congestion. I, too, was also facing severe wifi charging issues and I was using a Samsung blessed charging dock. I also had the dreaded red tint issue. Furthermore after doing an exchange I was sent the wrong device. I am not a superstitious man in the least but if ever there were a sign that the S8+ wasn't the device for me at the moment. This whole experience certainly seemed like one.

I won't argue that the Pixel XL is a more powerful device, because it simply isn't. In terms of simple generational terms. The S8+ hardware is newer and therefore features the improvements related to generational gaps. The 835 is fabulous. The device is beautiful and feature packed. What I will argue is that the user experience on the Pixel XL is leaps and bounds above even the cleaned up Samsung OS. Google's optimizations are so tight that it allows the Pixel XL to almost have the appearance of advantage over the Galaxy S8+. The Pixel XL makes the absolute most out of the hardware that it has, while the Galaxy S8+ has a ton of great hardware that it absolutely makes the worst use out of. The Pixel XL is a muscle car designed to do one thing and one thing only but to do that one thing incredibly well. The S8+ on the other hand is more of a fully loaded luxury sedan built with mind to doing everything but not necessarily at the best quality that everything could in-fact be done. I also still feel that there will probably be later drama involving the disparity between the infinity display and the SoC powering it. Samsung is already working closely with Qualcomm for a second revision of the 835 and I can see why. There might come a point where these revisions make their way into the S8+ production line and turn the product into what it was intended to be later in it's lifespan. Right now, though. It isn't worth it at least in my eyes. The Pixel XL is, as Google described, "internet in your hand". The device works so well that the hardware dissolves into the background. The Galaxy S8+ on the other hand is constantly there to remind you that it is the hardware barrier between you and the internet. It is a beautiful and stunningly designed barrier, but a barrier nonetheless.

I hope this helps people. Feel free to field me questions

PS: Thankfully I did not sell my Pixel XL and am still in the grace period for my S8+ so I can right my mistakes and move on with my bad self approximately $901.50 richer. Lol.

I had a few Samsung back in the day myself and loved them. S2 was a great device. S3 was a big improvement and one of the best phones I had. Development was great! 2 1/2 years later I picked up the Nexus 6. Great device, loads of development. 2 years later and there is no signs of slowing down. Only thing is the battery has started to degrade. Picked up the Note 7 because I wanted a phone with a good camera. Liked the device but it was missing "wow" factor. Edge screen is a gimmick, to me at least, and would prefer a flat screen. TouchWiz has improved from the S2/S3 days but I still find myself being frustrated because of the "hiccups" here and there on the Note 7. My OCD I guess. Ended up going back to Nexus 6 before I had to give the Note 7 back. Currently have the Pixel XL. Nice device and there is no signs of slowing. Did wish the screen was a tad larger and the bezels would shrink. Otherwise its a amazing device.

Am I the only one satisfied with Pixel's bezel?
The bezels on the Sam8 are too thin for my taste.
X D YOU MEAN THE BEZ XL

Just kidding...in all honesty the bezels hit me neutrally. I mean the lack thereof was neat while I was using the S8+ but returning to the Pixel XL hasn't really made me lament their presence either. I can't say I have ever really much understood or put much stock into the bezel(or less) wars. I mean it isn't that serious. Just another part of the phone. The same as all the other parts. Lol.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yea that was my problem as well, My cousin who has the Note 4 currently was asking me how I liked it. And I just basically said for you, you would love it because it would be such an upgrade for him. For me I couldnt justify keeping it at that price tag when I felt the Pixel was still faster and no hiccups ever. Only thing I can "complain" about on my Pixel is my battery but its because of the apps I run (FB, Messenger etc) that just eat away at it but messenger is how me and my friends communicate so I just deal with it. I am excited to see what Google has in store for the Pixel 2.

No, it is not true. Pixel XL uses Snapdragon 821 cpu, which is already obsolete today. The most current and fastest cpu in USA is Snapdragon 835, which is about 30% faster than 821 used in Pixel. In 3 years, this phone will be a complete hog, giving you maybe less that 15 frames per second... If Google keeps updating the OS. If it doesn't, it will stay the same speed. Ironic...

No, it is not true. Pixel XL is one of the worst battery draining flagship phones on the market today. Its use of Google Assistant constantly in the background is the major source of battery drain, unless you disable it. But when you disable it, you lose a lot of functionality like the weather widget on main screen, or any other functionality associated with it. Even Galaxy S7/8, with always on display technology, drains less battery than Pixel XL. It's a battery hog. On the other hand, it's active usage battery drain is compatible with other flagship phones. But when you turn off the screen, prepare for a beating.

No, it's not true. You don't actually need to do mods to keep a 1-2 year old Samsung flagship phone running fast, smooth, and low-battery sucking. Perhaps your problems are with Google Services settings and Google's inability to fix bugs in their software. Avoid that software, use Samsung's instead.

Yes, that is true. Google Pixel XL will be a very basic phone with limited capabilities.

Yes, it is true. You will lose quite a bit. Here's a list in no particular order:

1) Infinity Display / Curved edges / sense of style / 84% screen to body ratio.
2) Best brightness and best brightness in sunlight ratings.
3) HDR screen certification.
4) IP68 water and dust proofing.
5) Gorilla Glass 5 durability.
6) Wireless charging and Fast Wireless Charging.
7) Micro SD card expansion.
8) Best in class low light camera performance. Best in class camera sharpness performance. Best in class selfie camera.
9) Bluetooth 5.0
10) Always On Display.
11) LTE-4CA, twice faster LTE.
12) Samsung Pay, which works everywhere, even without NFC terminals. Works with magnetic stripe readers, which is unique, because no other pay systems can do that.
13) Iris scanner security.
14) SpO2 meter, heart rate sensor.
15) Desktop dock option with optimized desktop OS.
16) Bixby - **** Bixby. Minus 10 points here.

So, you see? You would be losing A LOT!
You're post is just ignorant. It clearly shows that you're a samsunk fanboy lol.

Firstly, all the features you listed for S8, are mostly gimmicks.

1.) Curve display is NOT practical. When you are viewing media in horizontal position the top and bottom curves are cut off and there is glare on those curves. Secondly, the side black bars kick in, so those pixels are useless.

2.) Pixel XL has best display with brightness in sunlight too. I played with it too. S8 isn't that brightest from my experience.

3.) That certification means nothing Lol. Samsung paid them money which they get it off consumers with higher price and its just marketing.

4.) No device can't be water "proof". You clearly need to learn some physics and chemistry here. Device is water resisted for certain length and for a limited time. Dust resistance is only rated.

5.) This Grolla Glass 5 is just bs. All of these version scratch easily. In real world, it breaks and scratches easily.

6.) Wireless charging is only useful for few people. Pixel XL charges pretty fast. When I had S8, it was charging fast, but not that fast :). G6 charged faster tbh.

7.) You get 128GB model for Pixel; which is faster and better.

8.) Sorry to burst your bubble buddy, S8 has the WORST camera and quality pictures. Many thorough reviewers have shown this already. Pixel XL with HDR takes BEST detailed low light pictures, and any other lighting conditions. The colours are clear and more real. S8 saturates and washes out the colours. The pictures look cartoonish. Pixel XL lacks OIS, but it is the best camera currently, even S8 can't beat it :). Pixel has better sharpness.

9.) there are no Bluetooth 5.0 devices and when they are available, the higher price won't justify many common users to purchase it. So there is no use of it.

10.) Always on Display is on Pixel, it can be added. There is the downside of battery drain.

11.) Lol, only select cell phone providers can take advantage of LTE; 4CA. Maybe one carrier in USA and other world's country. Pixel has LTE; 3CA, which is great. Also, the amount of data that will be gone given how much bandwidth is allowed. So not much advantage.

12.) Not everyone, majority of people care about Samsung pay tbh. It's still a minority of people.

13.) This is the most flawed and useless feature ever. Also, there are side-effects to your retina while using this. Again, it is for stupid sheeps to buy into this type of security.

14.) Lol, any serious person would never use these heart rate monitor. They are never accurate. Plus, your health data is stored into samsung servers and such.

15.) This desktop experience is not even ready. There are many bugs and apps not working properly.

16.) Bixby and its pathetic button there.

Pixel XL is great phone. I never had battery issues. I never had network issues. I never had call drops or signal drop issues. I have been samsung user since S4 days and let me tell you one thing. It is a piece of crap device. I had serious signal issues with WiFi, Cellular Network, slow speeds, lagging, and crap battery. The current S6 device, I have ZERO LTE bars. I had dropped calls, and couple of times I can't even hear the other person's voice. There are times when I needed to make a call , but couldn't. S6 has a known weak network signal issue. I can't even get Wifi @ 5GHZ on S4, S6, and same issue with S8 lol. Even 3T device could easily connect to 5GHZ wifi at the same location with full bars. Pixel XL had the best reception and signal strength. S4, S6, and S8 are the worst.

I have more exposure to samsung devices. What you said is just utter nonsense.

Pixel XL is still an amazing device and you won't be disappointed.

These are all valid points. I'm considering switching over to an S8 although I do love the Pixel, there are a lot of great things going for the S8.

The S8 also has Knox which is largely underrated, can have secure and sandboxed applications as well giving access to secure parts of the OS that you couldn't touch otherwise without root like Adhell ad blocking.

Thanks for your input.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is a better built phone than the Pixel XL but these days, for me at least it's about software, and the Pixel just runs so much smoother than the S8. I used the S8 for a day or so and had to return it because of its frustrating lag. If you put vanilla Android on the S8 it would probably be the phone of the year.

1) "Curve display is NOT practical."
Yes, it is. I used S6 Edge and Note 7, and the edges were beautiful and functional.

"When you are viewing media in horizontal position the top and bottom curves are cut off and there is glare on those curves. Secondly, the side black bars kick in, so those pixels are useless."
I have tablets and a desktop to view media. I only read webpages/flipboard on my phone, do email etc. Why the hell would I wanna view media on a phone? If I ever view media on a phone, it's a 3 min video linked from a news article, of which I only view 30 seconds before I feel like I'm bothering people around me.

2) "Pixel XL has best display with brightness in sunlight too. I played with it too. S8 isn't that brightest from my experience."
gsmarena:
S8 - 4.768 - http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s8-review-1603p3.php
XL - 4.164 - http://www.gsmarena.com/google_pixel_xl-review-1513p3.php

3) "That certification means nothing Lol."
Yeah, tell that to Displaymate - http://newatlas.com/displaymate-gives-samsung-s8-display-record-high-grade/48781/

4) "No device can't be water "proof". You clearly need to learn some physics and chemistry here. Device is water resisted for certain length and for a limited time. Dust resistance is only rated."
I said explicitly IP68. Yeah, I clearly need to learn some physics and chemistry here, considering I already have a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry. Yeah, thanks for the clarification, science guru!

5) "This Grolla Glass 5 is just bs. All of these version scratch easily. In real world, it breaks and scratches easily."
That is just patently wrong. GG5 is actually the most durable glass Corning has produced to date - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pvZ7y6djKU

6) "Wireless charging is only useful for few people. Pixel XL charges pretty fast. When I had S8, it was charging fast, but not that fast :). G6 charged faster tbh."
You don't like wireless charging? I know! People who don't have it always dislike it!

7) "You get 128GB model for Pixel; which is faster and better."
You don't like SD card expansion? I know! People who don't have it always dislike it!

That is just patently wrong. Just look for yourself - http://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=5&idPhone1=8345&idPhone2=8161&idPhone3=8523

9) " there are no Bluetooth 5.0 devices and when they are available, the higher price won't justify many common users to purchase it. So there is no use of it."
Are you planning on keeping the device for more than 6 months?

10) "Always on Display is on Pixel, it can be added. There is the downside of battery drain."
You hit it right on the head, sport! Battery drain! Note 7 had an extra drain of 0.5% battery per hour, or 12% per day with Always On Display. That's manageable. The hack solutions you propose, if I'm not mistaken, are much more severe.

11) "Lol, only select cell phone providers can take advantage of LTE; 4CA. Maybe one carrier in USA and other world's country. Pixel has LTE; 3CA, which is great. Also, the amount of data that will be gone given how much bandwidth is allowed. So not much advantage."
You don't like fast LTE? I know! People who don't have it always dislike it!

12) " Not everyone, majority of people care about Samsung pay tbh. It's still a minority of people."
I loved Samsung Pay. If you want a cool pay system, that's where it's at. If you don't want a cool pay system, just pick any other phone.

13) "This is the most flawed and useless feature ever. Also, there are side-effects to your retina while using this. Again, it is for stupid sheeps to buy into this type of security."
You don't like Iris scanner? I know! People who don't have it always dislike it!

14) "Lol, any serious person would never use these heart rate monitor. They are never accurate. Plus, your health data is stored into samsung servers and such."
I am sorry, but that is one of the dumbest things you have said today. No serious person would ever use a heart rate monitor? They are never accurate? Are you living in alternative fact universe?

15) "This desktop experience is not even ready. There are many bugs and apps not working properly. "
TBH, I don't know much about it. So, I'll give you this one. But only the benefit of the doubt, as I know you have not tried this feature, as neither did I.

16) BIXBY!
