Jump from S8 to Google Pixel - worth it?

I'm having a difficult time deciding between the two still, as it turns out.

I bought another Pixel XL and received it over the weekend, but it's really strange/difficult adjusting to the smaller display. It's definitely easier to use when reaching top UI elements, but otherwise I really appreciate the insane amount of reading/scrolling real-estate the S8+ provides. Pixel is definitely smoother than my S8+, but it's not freezing up or anything, only dropping frames, and that could get improved upon with updates later on. But the S8 is faster in terms of raw performance and load times. Cameras are mostly neck & neck... but Pixel does edge out slightly, especially with dynamic range. I love Samsung Pay, AOD, and some of the system added features Samsung puts in, but stock Android will always be my preference.

Not really sure what to do. Today is my last chance to return the S8+, but I feel like doing so would be a downgrade in some ways. Forever wishing for the day the perfect phone is made... maybe the Pixel 2 will finally deliver.

So I had a s8 and have to say I love the pixel XL and glad I got the s8 refunded. Few points...

1. S8 curved display is amazing BUT try typing or swyping on it oh my god it's frustrating as the keys are right on the edge past the curve
2. Pixel will get android o and am looking forward to that.
3. Dropped frames for a phone that's so advanced I found it to be frustrating in terms of dropped frames. I often found as I type fast one or two keys weren't registered so had to go back etc and type again
4. S8 I had to get a case and guess what it adds bezels to the phone lol without the case you drop it and that's it high chance it's cracked.
5. Samsung's app store is so frustrating. To use the hdr Amazon video you download it from the Samsung app store. Also the themes are crap and cost a ton in their app store.
6. Forced bixby I like Google now but bixby is so crap and to have a button for it just takes the pie. Sure you can remap it but I read it can further cause slow downs of the phone

Anyway overall I appreciate pixel XL I had a chance with the s8 but honestly it was hype that made me get it in the first place. Some amazing features but remember without good software all that hardware goes to waste you can marvel on a quadhd super dooper amoled all you want but you will be frustrated if it's a jittery mess.

Lastly my take on Samsung would be for them to make a nexus phone like they did back in the day. Samsung hardware and Google software and watch the phone sell like hotcakes.

That's what I always say. You can have all the top hardware in the world...but if the software is only average it won't mean anything

I understand that you have been burned by Note phones, but denying reality is only detrimental to your cause.
I don't have a cause. At least not one that is going to live or die on XDA.

I haven't been burned by any phone. I'm pretty objective when it comes to phones and the issues users are having with the pixel between here, Reddit, Google's own forums are pretty evident.

No, no phone is perfect but a lot of the people here like to pretend the Pixel/Nexus is while trying to talk down about other OEMs. Well the house is made of glass.

Fast updates are awesome until you are how many months in and your phone still doesn't keep a decent BT connection to your car stereo.

I actually agree with you
