What helps a bit is having "Lift to check phone" enabled in gestures. That way when you lift your phone it starts to turn display on, so delay between placing your finger and having display actually on is somewhat smaller.

Interesting point. I hold it in my right hand. So what hand do you righties hold it in?
I'm a mostly-righty, and I hold it in my left hand most of the time. But when it's in my left hand, my thumb isn't near the power button, my index finger is, because I don't hold it backward... tends to be hard to read when it's facing my palm.. ;)

Hijacking the thread here. Anytime else not able to pull the OTA? Haven't had any issues the last couple of months after the Play Services issue but I can't get this one.

Sent from my Google Pixel 2 XL using XDA Labs

If you mean the screen unlock delay, then, likely yes! It's by design after all
Hmmmm:confused:, If it's looking like they won't take this back, change, or offer to make this "feature" customizable, asking the experts out here on XDA & Pixel 2 forums -- is there anything, either in development or currently out, that can modify and change this and put it back (or close enough back) to how it was originally then?

I'm no expert Simple Man(love that song) but as you've probably seen in the Flash kernel thread that Flash and Sultan have been working on at least a commit that may help us out. Flash has an experimental kernel build that others have reported works fairly well. I agree that it all B.S. in the first place! ?

You may not be an expert, but you are the man Badger Man!;)

Thanks for the info! It's exactly what I was asking/looking/hoping for! I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way (your last sentence)! I can't believe their reasoning even -- minor screen flashing from the always-on ambient display! I doubt it was that widespread of an issue; and even if, the owners of devices that DON'T have the issue (like me/us) have to suffer?!?!

As I've said, if anything, they should offer a way to revert or "untick" the option instead of hoping and waiting for other outside developers to do it...!

If your interested my brother, Flash just pushed a beta build, it's 2.44b3. And it pretty much brings our unlock time back to normal. Gotta love these Devs like Flash and Sultan. They should be hired by google to clean up their mess! :good::good:

Yes, Ambient Display on will reduce the delay

Not true. Have always had Ambient Display on, and I am experiencing the fingerprint unlock lag.

From google's official account:
"Hi everyone,

We are aware that some Pixel 2 XL users are experiencing occasional delays with wake ups. We have now identified a fix which will be rolling out in the coming weeks. In the meantime, the problem can be worked around by setting the Ambient Display to "always on" on your Pixel 2 XL.

Cheers"

I was about to update to the june Security finally, because I too keep my ambient display on. but you say that it is not a workaround like the google rep says?

To be clear, I thought they meant just toggling Ambient Display to 'On'. I did not try Always On. I'm not going to use the Always On method, as I don't want it always on obviously. I've read other posts where people have tried it and it does work.

My Ambient Display is set to Always On and was previously, and the issue is still occurring for me. The delay happens with both the fingerprint sensor and the power button.
