However if you are interested in doing it I can give you assistance in greater detail let me know. Also, it would be great to see if you can get v81 apk to decompile but Ive had no luck with the latest apktools- it throws exception trying to generate the dex (smali).

I would be interested what's the best way to replace the existing MainUI.
a) install it as simple update by clicking on the apk?
b) replace the apk on system partition? Is this possible while system is running? Chmod required afterwards?

There's a few steps.

1. After you make your modded apk you need to sign it using the testkeys from aosp.
2. Need to enable USB debugging in the setup menu
3. Boot into recovery using "adb reboot recovery"
4. In recovery, swipe down and right to mount system root
5. Prep a USB stick with your modded and signed APK.
6. Need to perform su and overwrite the mainui in system_root:

su @#zxcvbnmasdfghjklqwertyuiop1234567890,.
mount -o rw,remount /system_root
cd /system_root/system/priv-app/MainUI
cp /storage/udisk2/MainUI_modsigned.apk MainUI.apk

Replace the paths to your USB stick mount.

This is the only way I know to make the replacement APK "stick". Trying to remount the system as rw and replacing it in the live os will not write to the system root and reboot will remove your changes.

Very important: I got the error message "failed" before. I saw someone wrote that i need to format the usb stick with rufus.
It worked perfectly.

Installed and tested. I can say it is more snapier, touch is more responsive. The new version introduces a new theme with stations switch buttons, which makes our life easier. Improved radio audio quality. The rest is the same.

Question: Is it possible to change picel density or resolution, as I got updated from seller rom, it somehow got bigger resolution and everything got small?

Can you describe the Radio audio quality improvment you have notice ?
On mine, when driving, I face 2 issues :
1/ some time the sound is crappy and the radio is almost impossible to hear. Then it could improve and if not I decide to change of FM station
2/ some time the AF (Alternative Frequencies) is quite "brutal" : when he loose the signal (or detect poor signal), it try to find alternative frequency for the same station: but it then jump from alternate frequency to an other one (some time there are music on these alternate, but these are clearly other stations !!!), then comes back to the original one : it's a mess the head unit has to change the frequency to test the quality. On my orginal Renault radio, it was doing this in the background and was changing frequency only if quality was better and whitout any glitch on the sound.

The sound quality of radio app is better, though it is as you described, AF is just shifting around, but that is whole other functinality compared to Aduio Quality.

For most of the time I am using AndroidAuto, HeadUnit Reloaded app to connect to phone, and use Spotify, as it gives the best and clear sound quality.

You can re-enable sleep mode from the car settings.

To whoever considers updating to v81 AND is a default launcher enthusiast (like me): v81 offers a limited amount of "themes": the first four from here (v61)

plus a new, comparably annoying one.

The firmwares for MTK8257 are full updates so you can flash an older version after update.
