With ICS taking off (thanks to renowned members like roman, neobuddy, brick'd, and many more) ALOT of roms have been, and are going to continue to be, released.
I realize that we have complained for while about the development section being so quiet (understandably so), but we are on the verge of seeing quite the opposite.
This is great news!! but with this type of evolution comes many roms, kangs, ports, concepts, etc. its also going to bring out the noobs, flash-o-holics, and lesser experienced members. we are going to start seeing maaaany ics threads in development section, but people are going to ask: well, how is X different from Y???

my friendly suggestion to devs, kangers, porters is this: when posting a release thread, it would be doing a service to the forum, and yourself, to cite exactly what sets your release apart. whether its something major like source, or something minor like a theme - it will save users a lot of confusion, and it will save you the headache of your thread being cluttered with unhelpful questions and waste posts.

i just remember during the Froyo days, the dev section was loaded with virtually identical roms, with people releasing a "new build" that simply had framework edits, build.prop tweaks, and/or different apps. this is fine, i thought about releasing a themed/tweaked build myself at one point in time - but you have to explain it that way, otherwise it sucks for people flashing it hoping to get an all-around new rom experience.

My theming ambition has dropped drastically, as people have probably noticed. i think it has something to do with the fact that, quite frankly, im bored with the Vibrant.
I think it also has something to do with the fact that im STILL running Froyo. I was running CM7 stable for a while but i ran into this fatal bug that i could not figure out, and could not find a fix for, so i had to revert.
I only theme something that i know im going to be using for a while, and then i share my stuff with the forum. some might call it selfish, but my time is limited I was on the VERGE of making a theme for CM7 before i ran into that wall.

As far as ICS goes, its far too buggy for me right now, but there is SO much potential. every day there are steps made. im so OCD with my phone that it has to be close to perfect for me to consider using something as my everyday rom. ive ran most of the ICS roms out there, and i would definitely consider a theming project once they are stable.

+1 on every part of this statement as I am the exact same way. I am hyper sensitive to my phone too. Maybe that is not such a bad thing though. Has definately led me to solve some of the issues out there too.

Was wanting to start theming Deranged9 and the it basically fell off the map while still waiting for the final to drop.

I may get flamed for this but I can't stand the ICS Blue. Not sure what I would want but the blue is not my favorite by any means. Even Generic McPlain grey would be better than the blue. But that is just me.

im a big blue fan, but ICS is TOO blue...im more of a fan of the cyan-ish blue.

yah every ics rom out has its deal-breaking bug for me. the biggest one is the /datadata issue (low storage space). i run a lot of apps, and even if i could live without some, i like knowing that the space is there if i need it. i know zenwich doesnt use /datadata, but that leads to some really yucky lag.

like i said, very good progress is being made, but its not up to my PERSONAL standards yet. but i try as best i can to keep my standards to myself, becase they are unfairly high for our device at this point, and these devs work their asses off.

I agree too. Very good point. I too came to a stop with messing with my Vibrant. I look at ICS and I know if I flash that on my phone I'm going to end up editing the framework-res to exactly how I have it now. For me it makes no sense to mess with my phone the way it is. I'm just waiting to the price to drop on the SGSII so my wife and I could upgrade and then I'll start messing with those.

Sorry I derailed your thread (actually it was mikka06 's fault) with my non-sensical mumblings that I don't like ICS's Blue.

I love blue. I usually pick out all the blue M&M's and Fruit Loops and eat them first. And even on St. Patrick's day, I don't dye my beer green, its blue or nothing. I just don't like the ICS Blue.

I appreciate this very much. I remember when I first registered with XDA and had no idea what I was doing. Couple of people took me in and showed me a few things and it was all basically trial and error.

Fast forward to when I came to the Vibrant forums and it was much different than it is now. Too many attitudes and too many senses of entitlement. As much as it sucked, I understood why CM left. Now most of those problematics have gone on to the SGSII or beyond and we have a new crop of people here.

Like it much better now.
