updated to mr2

what5s the next step for twrp. this is where i get hung up. twrp and root.
Install arter97 r12
You have to be unlocked bootloader and critical.
After unlocked you have to fastboot flash boot arter97 r12.img then you can click on boot recovery from bootloader menu it'll boot into TWRP because it's installed with arter97 image. If you have a pin type that when TWRP asks for password then slide slider to allow modifications. Click install and install the magisk I linked you too in previous post. Boot to system and open magisk manager and update. Done

Iw went ahead, now im in twrp. do i have root now?

so i do NOT have root. I got twrp but no root.

EDIT

I downloaded your zip file for magisk 19.5 installed it. booted up and tried to update, which options do i select? direct install? install to inactive slot? i noticed magisk installed to slot_b

Kernel does not include root. You must flash magisk after flashing kernel. Then to update magisk, direct install works for me. You do have root, the other picture I saw is an old app looking for root in aht old places. As long as you're rooted, try opening an app that asks for root. If you see a prompt, you're rooted.

Edit: just remember, rom then kernel then root

To clarify the RootChecker isnt updated and according to the pictures above i already have root?

How can i verify this?

I just rooted MR2 to show you. It took me less than 5 minutes to do the whole process of fastboot flashing kernel booting straight into TWRP recovery which is included then installing magisk immediately rebooting into system and updated magisk. Done

How did you pass Safety Net please?

Hey quick question, so I'm already rooted and have magisk installed and working but don't have the arter kernel. Can I just fastboot install the kernel without formatting data and re-installing magisk?

To the original poster...... You navigated your way to here and asked for instructions on custom O. S. But you couldn't read any of the other forums or didn't think to maybe go to the "ROMs......." Section? That's fantastic. I would try any of the Galaxy Note 4 ROMs. They all were great ROMs. Like PACMAN, AOSP, or CM-9....

Geez, calm down man. There’s already basically no posting going on in this sub forum. So there’s no sense in bashing the ones that are here to discourage others from even wanting to post or ask questions.

Both sides are valid.
A forum clogged up with repetitive posts to browse through is just as useless as an empty thread.
Likewise some activity, might encourage more users, now that the phone is so cheap.
I'm considering buying this phone, and part of my considerations is XDA forum activity.
