Does anyone face multitasking issue after installing kirisakura? I can only run one app at a time... Youtube gets down everytime I try to run it in background and play any game or even using another apps like instagram or whatsapp...

This kernel saved my phones life. Was getting tired of the freezing in the Pixel Experience, now it runs extremely smooth. Thank you!
This is not compatible with latest Magisk 25.0 if anyone was wondering.

I just updated within the Magisk app from 24.3 -> 25.0... Then updated the boot side in the app with the Direct Install method...
Very weird, I did the exact same thing and I ended up in bootloop
What rom where you using when you updated magisk? Was krisakura already flashed and did it survive the re-root?

Here´s the next release. It includes the kernel-side security patches for the June firmware from the still updated 4.9 devices (p3a series).
Linux-stable was updated as well.
I was able to flash the kernel.zip fine running magisk canary 25001 on latest stock rom source. If you had troubles with latest magisk canary, maybe that zip solves it. Otherwise if custom roms don´t work, I don´t know what could be the cause as it works fine on my end.
Other changes please check the changelog and/or github.

1. Make sure you are rooted, are using the latest magisk suited for your OS version and a kernel manager capable of flashing a zip is installed. If available you can use TWRP as well. Download the kernel.zip to your device.
2. Flash kernel.zip via your favorite method. Kernel Managers and Recoveries need to be updated to work with a specific Android Version. It's your job to ensure compatibility! Root will be preserved! (Make sure to be on the latest firmware the kernel is made for)
3. Reboot and profit! Before reporting any issues make sure to read the first three posts of this thread!
Instructions can be found in the OP too!

I'm using Pixel Experience June patch. Even with a completely stock PE boot image (no magisk), flashing 5.1.1_S causes the bootloop immediately.

4GB wasn't enough when the 3XL was released. It really was an insult to sell us a $1K phone with 4GB of RAM.
I won't say that 11 is better than 12, but on the 3XL I think it certainly is (especially with the phantom process issues if you are a power user).
My 2 week experience with 12 was nothing but problem after problem and not a single new "feature" that I cared to have, especially at the sake of what was lost.
My 11 experience was getting a bit bogged down, but I think it was due to the # of apps I have installed and as you say apps getting sloppier. McDonalds or Walgreens has no reason to be doing anything on my phone unless I am actively using it.
I will be reinstalling some of these but keeping them frozen unless needed.1
as a side note... the installer still says 5.1.1.You're correct, usually it's on afh if i do a release with a release post and all that, but i put this just out as a test until I find to update the thread properly since I wanted to get that hotfix out as fast as possible for everyone

EDIT: so after removing battery optimization, it did work today without problem.. hopefully it'll keep working,
EDIT 2: Doh! It paused mid-ride again, even with battery optimization turned off

I had nothing but trouble.
I found that apps closed more often (Maps on long trips), and had a bunch of problems with Tasker.
I think part of it is due to the issue of Phantom Processes being killed on 12. I wrote up some of my Tasker woes here.
In the end, I couldn't get Tasker to not crash and manually need restarting. I was also having a problem with my phone Mic and so as a last resort I did a full reload back to 11 (it worked, Mic is better....though I don't necessarily blame that on 12).
I had a lot of apps (500+) and these phones don't have a lot of working RAM. I think if you have lots of apps running at the same time (which many apps do in the background even if you don't realize) or if you have apps that need to continually run for a long time - you are going to have problems with 12.
I'm staying back on 11 until VoLTE issues force my hand. Too many things just didn't work for me.1I have to agree that 4GB isn't enough RAM anymore. For my part, I don't remember whether Android 11 was much better than 12 or if it's just that applications keep getting sloppier with their memory usage.
I was looking forward to the Pixel 6a until I heard they crippled it with 6GB of RAM. I can't see upgrading to less than 8 at this point. The regular Pixel 6 is too big for my hands (and pockets). So I just learn to be patient while my apps reload. -

Hello everyone,
To keep it short: Here is Kirisakura - Kernel for the Pixel 3 aka Blueline and the Pixel 3 XL aka Crosshatch, together Bluecross.
I would appreciate if everybody that flashes the kernel, reads at least once through this opening post and the following ones.
Kirisakura - Kernel is designed to bring a handful of beneficial features to the device, while ensuring excellent performance and smoothness to get you safely through the day!
This project aims to keep most of the subsystems updated, way ahead of the stock kernel, thereby improving security and performance, while keeping stability as the focus during testing! This includes Linux-Stable, CAF-Upstream and kernel/common.
If reading about upstream in the paragraph above got you curious,have a read about Linux-Stable and why it is important here. The stable-process is not the same for every subsystem, but the general idea, rule of thumb and benefits are applicable for other subsystems as well.
Quick explanation of CAF-Upstream. CAF is short for Codeaurora-Forums. This is the place where development from Qualcomm for their SoCs happens. This includes the Snapdragon 845 that´s built into Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.
The kernel-bases available on the Codeaurora-Forums, are basically the foundations OEMs use, to build their own kernel additions on top for devices featuring Qualcomm SoCs.
The Qualcomm developers push regular updates to the bases of the different SoCs, a bit similar to how Linux-Upstream works. OEMs usually stop updating the initial base after the phone is released.
This kernel focuses amongst the other features to provide the latest CAF-Updates merged in a regular manner, to provide updates, improvements and enhancements for SoC specific drivers and subsystems! This might take a while, because a lot of device specific testing is done on my end to ensure stability.
The EAS implementation is heavily updated with changes from CAF, kernel/common and other improvements.

- Set the bio REQ_NOENCRYPT flag (When lower layers such as dm-crypt observe the REQ_NOENCRYPT flag, it helps the I/O stack avoid redundant encryption, improving performance and power utilization. )

- High Brightness Mode for increasing backlight level related to brightness accessible via EXKM app
- High Brightness Mode for just boosting display to max level accessible via EXKM app
- Vibration Intensity adjustable via EXKM app

Hey guys and girls,
So here´s the next milestone update. I tried to put this release off for as long as possible, but I finally feel it´s ready to be released here.
The reason why I was so hesitant, is that I don´t want to introduce any instability. The current kernel has run for me for months, without a single reboot.
Don´t get me wrong the new release is absolutely fantastic. I´m quite sure of it
This new release is not an update but rather a complete new kernel! I started to work on the idea a few months ago. Progress was made a month ago, after I spent way too much time on this and was on the verge of giving up. But here we go now. Thanks also to @arter97 who answered a few questions
The new kernel is completely redone from scratch.
It´s based on latest Q Preview Source from Google. Only a few commits, which ensure compatibility with Android Q needed to be reverted. So far that´s the same as the old kernel.
But this time I managed to completely merge the latest CAF source into it. CAF stands for Codeaurora Forums, where the development of Qualcomm Code happens.
As @nathanchance correctly observed the Pixel 3/XL kernel is more CAF than the Pixel kernels from earlier years. See this twitter post for Pie and the trend continues for Android Q.
Earlier I would only pick a few selected CAF patches. But now the complete CAF tree is merged in our tree. This includes hundreds of commits for SOC specific drivers, other improvements, stability fixes etc.
It gets better. The kernel is specifically rebased on to the new LE.UM.3.2.1-11600-SDX24-Tag, which contains a lot more improvements and cutting-edge changes than the regular sdm845 tag.
Performance is way better, than the old kernel. I think everyone will be pleased.
The only things, which needed to be reverted completely from CAF was the dynamic CLK addition for the display driver. But that´s incompatible and currently not worth it. Maybe it might be later looked into. I also decided to not touch the drivers responsible for charging.
New improvements from the Pixel 3a/XL devices are also merged in this kernel. WiFi driver is updated to latest state from Q Preview 3. We should have a lot more fixes on that front now too.
Audio driver is updated to latest CAF state and Q Preview 3 state as well. The audio driver is released in a separate repo from Google/CAF and needs to be updated alongside the kernel to ensure compatibility with our new shiny CAF base.
While redoing the kernel I decided to drop a lot of stuff, that previously aimed at helping with performance.
We dropped back to Google´s way of touch/interaction boosting. No custom CPU Boosts any longer. Performance is excellent and battery life too. Only the underlying EAS machinery is updated. So far that works very good.
I also dropped a few other "under the hood" things you won´t miss after flashing the kernel.
There are a few commits from @arter97 ´s OP6 kernel, which should improve things a bit more.
The memory leak fixes from @Sultanxda are included as well. Thanks to him!
There are many more changes and improvements, please feel free to take a look at my git!
I tried to update the OP as best as I could.
All features like wake gestures, sound control are still in their place. If you find something missing please report back.
Oh and it included 4.9.176
This kernel is tested for over a month now! It´s perfectly stable and no issues for me or any of my testers. As already said I put so much work in to it, I hope it pays off and everybody has the same feeling as me.
This kernel should leave us with a good time until Android Q officially drops

Yes I know it took a very long time, but here it finally is. There are some changes now compared to the releases starting with 3.0.0.
A few words to describe why the kernel is now the way it is.
The biggest change is that the kernel has not merged a complete CAF-SDX base update, like what was done in 3.0.0. (detailed description what was done in 3.0.0 here)
I tried several times, started everytime from scratch (this process took the better part of a day or more, every single time I tried!), excluded some changes from the CAF-Base, but I cannot get the kernel to boot. I´m not able to figure out what´s preventing the kernel from booting with CAF merged completely on Q. The same changes boot fine on Pie, but something prevents booting on Q.
I spent so much time on trying to get the kernel to that state again, that releasing it without the complete CAF-Merge is a hard decision, but the decision had to be made.
On a bright side: Google updated the CAF-based camera driver heavily, very similar to what I did before
Several other subsystems are now on a way more recent state compared to when Pie was released. That´s very promising to see and great work by Google.
I combed through the CAF source and merged several "individual" changes in the kernel I deemed viable, one by one.
So EAS is now again at the latest CAF state, some memory leaks are fixed and other things work a bit better.
But all in all the Q Base Kernel from Google is already very good.
I tried to keep all the features of the Pie-Release available and built a good kernel for our device nonetheless. Every tester told me so far the device feels improved in at least a way and now I´m content to release the kernel.
I will update the OP to reflect some of the changes and to keep it as recent as possible. The biggest change is the absence of the complete CAF-Merge however. These were mostly under the hood changes, so it might not be obviously visible.
A few things which are still notable:
- lzo-rle is still available as a ZRAM compression algorithm
- additioanlly zstd is available as a ZRAM compression algorithm
- swappiness can be set to a higher value than the default 100
setting swappiness to a higher value than 100... WHY?
swappiness controls the relative amount of swapping memory pages and dropping the cache.
Having swappiness at 100 means memory and cache have same priority.
With swappiness set to 0, memory will never be swapped out in favor of cache, so the kernel will always drop cache first because it will never swap out any memory.
With swappiness set to a higher value than 100, swapping memory has more priority than dropping the cache
Everybody can experience with this. I will leave the 100 by google as default but I went with something between 160 and 190 on my device
Different ZRAM algorithms? Which is the best one for me?
This is a difficult question to answer in a very exact fashion. Have a look at this benchmark and the various graphs here: COMPRESSION BENCHMARK
The most simple answer is just use lz4, which is also the default one. Very good compromise of compression ratio and speed.
lzo-rle aims to fit the need of ZRAM better than just a "generic" compression algorithm. (there´s an explanation and link earlier in the thread, linked in a release post, search for it )
zstd is a "younger" algorithm, which is very fast, if one does compare the compression ratio (which is way higher than lz0 and lz4) to compression/decompression speed

Important: What to do if you face issues on Android 10/Q
You might face issues on Android 10 like non working sensors, edge sense not working properly or similar things.

This also caused seemingly in a random fashion issues with magisk modules not unpacking properly when you flash them via magisk manager.
So if you have used TWRP in the past and went on to Q, without completely wiping you might very well be affected.
I recommend everybody who faces symptoms of random issues, which they cannot explain, to completely nuke their device and flash a factory image with -w intact, as to complete set up the device from scratch.
This will wipe your whole phone, so backup videos, photos, music, apps and other stuff you don´t want to lose!
@jcmm11 and me were hunting this magisk bug for a week and it turned out it´s connected to the above mentioned issue, although it gets more prominent by the latest CAF - EAS changes, which are merged in my kernel. Probably due to the way tasks get handled a bit differently.
Please everybody keep this in mind, before reporting back.

1. Make sure you are rooted and either EXKM or FKM is installed. Download the kernel.zip to your device.
2. Flash kernel zip in EX Kernel Manager or FKM app. Root will be preserved!
3. Reboot and profit! Before reporting any issues make sure to read the Release-Post of Bluecross_Q_Release_1.0.0!
