i've backported support for lzma-compressed kernel images to the bravo-2.6.32 kernel released by htc
the patch is available here: 2.6.32-lzma.patch

after applying the patch "Kernel compression mode: LZMA" option will be available in the kernel configuration (general setup)

lzma-compressed kernel images are about 33% smaller in comparison to the default compression method (gzip)
decreasing the size of the kernel image results in a smaller boot image. a smaller boot image is
  • good for users with bad sectors on their boot partition
  • good for devs (more features fit in less space + possibility to have a larger rootfs)
  • good for everyone (less stress on nand)
