I'm running CM7/Android 2.3.7 with the 8/15/2011 kernel. Am I likely to see a speed or battery improvement with the latest AOSP kernel? Are there significant changes from the 8/15/2011 release?

read the gingertiny thread for the changes. They are pretty much the same at this point except the 3/11 changes aren't in the latest aosp kernel.

I would say its faster and better battery life but I suggest you read the logs to see the changes I made. 8/15 is still really good. I doubt you'll see night and day differences between the releases. If you are still confused I can make a summary post with the main changes this evening.

Pretty much. The one thing I really dislike about the market is there is no way to respond to the comments to elicit more information. It makes it impossible to resolve issues / get logs.

Chad, I just flashed the AOKP Build 28 ICS rom. I had the old Incredicontrol app and the market updated it to the latest version, 1.5.1. Every time I try to run the latest app, I get the message "IncrediControl has stopped." The older version works on the AOKP Build M4 ICS rom. Version 1.5.1 worked fine on the Abduction ICS 1.81 and 2.0 versions. Do you have any suggestions, or is there anything I can get to you to troubleshoot this?

Try this and let me know. I just pushed this to the market and I hope it will fix it.

Thanks, Chad. That fixed it. One question: on the CPU screen under the governor, there is a blank pull down menu. What is that to be used for? I really appreciate your assistance. I have been using your kernels (tiny's for gingerbread) and incrediControl since I first rooted my phone. They are the best!

On mine (1.5.1) it's not blank. It shows the IO scheduler. Do you get anything on the dropdown when you select it?

Quick summary of changes:
  • smartassV2 governor
  • zram support
  • lagfree governor
  • SIO IO Scheduler
  • speed tweak to deadline IO scheduler
  • interactiveX governor

I may have missed something but these IMO are the main highlights.

You can give this one a shot. Should fix it. I loaded up AOKP to checkout what was going on. ICS for some reason really doesn't like reading files the way I did it before. Not exactly sure why but I suppose its going to force me to do a major cleanup. Which isn't exactly a bad thing. Haha.

Edit for new version.

Chad since we're on the topic of ICS, want to give abduction (v2.0.9a) or evervolv p12 a shot and see what you make of the camera issue? I doubt it's fixable in the kernel but curious if you wanted to take a look. This way you can also test stability if you so choose.

Those are the only two I know that have hardware acceleration.

Thanks.

Not sure if the official qualcomm files are worth it. I could never get it working right on existing hardware acceleration roms. And adbduction supports the gradient in menus that didn't exist on the early ICS hacked roms.

Also, tested v1.5.3 and each time I open the app, the IO scheduler resets itself to default. It doesn't seem to save. I think that's only an issue on ICS but I might need to regression test on gingerbread.

Just fixed that IO thing. Dumb mistake on my part, was lying in bed and thought about it and got up to fix it. Haha. New version is in the market and updated in the previous post.

I recommend you don't change governors and don't set any profiles. Let smartass do its thing as it takes care of sleep.

If multitouch is not working, you may be able to get it to work by following this:

Thank you Chad for giving me the opportunity to maintain the kernel these past 2 months. This will be the last release from me barring any new bugs introduced.

    11/27/2011 Changes:

    • Use ondemand, performance, and conservative governors from the Android Linux 3.0 kernel
    • Set minimum voltage back to 800 as the voltages will not go below 800 anyway. Anything lower is placebo effect. This is a hardware limitation.

I was really irritated with the ridiculously unstable kernel that for some reason is being included with all the ICS builds. So I added an ICS branch. It actually works on GB also right now, but I fully expect them to diverge at some point. Its identical to 11/27 but has fixes for ICS.

I finally got around to updating my fork of Chad's incredikernel. You guys know where to get it. Some fixes to issues created with the fork (BFQ was missing for instance).

    Full changes:

    11/14/2011:
    • Update OJ driver
    • BT fix for newer CM nightlies
    • WIFI module updates
    • Update and re-add BFQ scheduler as well as disable deadline
    • Ondemand is back
    • Fixes/Tweaks to ondemand and interactive
    8
    04/19/11

    Patched up to 2.6.37.6
    BFQ-v2-r1
Numerous driver updates (BMA150, OV8810, Atmel touch, gadget updates)
    Rewritten panel driver
Many changes to improve waking when using low frequencies and smartass
    Slightly more aggressive smartass scaling
Reduced OJ sensitivity slightly (in comparison to 3/18) to help minimize ghosting - GB only

Only the major changes are listed here, look at my github for all the changes (32 commits in total).
