Does this kernel fix the washed out colors on the stock 6.0 update? it's becoming unbearable to watch anything on my NP and i've put up with it for months while Google gets their stuff together...

Did not know there was one...
So I don't know
No? yeah, it's been a bug since Marshmallow release... It's FINALLY been acknowledged by Google and they're said to be working on a fix for an update... here's the Google Group for the discussion https://productforums.google.com/fo...ce=footer#!msg/nexus/B9w14NuBv5U/OvW9S8JDAAAJ

it's even been discussed on various websites/blogs since it's not just a NP issue but in fact a Marshmallow issue http://www.androidheadlines.com/2015/12/bug-causing-washed-out-colors-on-nexus-5x-6p-player.html

and here's my personal post with pictures of the issue... https://plus.google.com/+RobertoMezquiaJr/posts/H6s7hRdoPmk

i'm really shocked when people say they don't notice this issue... in short, it's a bug with apps that use the built in video decoder when hardware acceleration gets stuck on causing improper exposure for the videos playing...

Up until last week, I was selling TV's at Best Buy and it's most certainly an issue with the update... I never had that issue before and it only affects certain apps... I don't use it but try out Kodi, which uses it's own player, and you won't see the black levels the same as with apps like Plex, Play Movies, YouTube, Netflix, etc...

O no wonder I didn't notice it.
I use Kodi and MX player all the time lol
I use YouTube only for AMVs and they barely have any pure white or black. Plus my TV is set to vivid

I calibrated my TV very well and its an eyesore using my Nexus Player... If you click my Google Plus post with pics, you can see for yourself just how bad it is...

Hello again. Any chance you could build a new updated kernel for the Nexus Player that works on 6.0.1 Stock ROM or Pure Nexus ROM? I'm on Pure Nexus ROM at the moment and I cant get sounds working properly, so I assume that means my kernel is broken, assuming sound is part of the Android kernel.

Anyway, its been a long time since we last spoke, think the Nexus 7 days, in early 2014 when I was testing your F2FS kernels. ;) Yeah I finally got a different Tablet about a year ago, the TAB S, and have not looked back. Anyway hope all is well with you and your family :good:

EDIT: No rush, ill keep an eye out for it then. Thanks again.

HAHA, yeah my N7 turned into a fantastic Alarm Clock, LOL. Its been a year or more since I installed anything fresh onto it and a few weeks back I decided heck why not check out the old N7 threads and latest stuff. Sure enough I'm blown away that devs keep releasing stuff for it and it runs better than ever now, albeit with a battery I think may be giving up soon. Can't believe how good MM runs on it though. Best alarm clock ever, lmao... Not very loud but I like it that way :D

Yeah that would be cool to check out a custom kernel for my Nexus Player please, maybe just maybe it might fix my issue. For what ever reason the best ROM in these threads "Pure Nexus" don't seem to play nice with my TV's sound chip, or what ever it is. Yet the stock rom sounds great and all the AOSP roms sound great too, so it should just work. But the only ROM I want to use "Pure Nexus" forces me to read lips (I guess center channel is messed up or something in the rom or kernel or what ever). LOL, anyway thought maybe, as a last ditch effort before I am forced to sell this device that I should contact you and see if your Fire Ice Kernel fixes it or not. Worth a try anyway... :good:

P.S I miss those F2FS testing days. Was a real fun headache (if there is such a thing) getting such new file system tech like that and figuring out how to implement it. Now its practically available for all devices it seems. Made my N7 feel MUCH better, but does practically nothing for the TAB S. hehe

i know man dont we all!

i'm starting the linux-3.10.y merge with the nexus player's stock kernel...
this will take a very long time like ~3-6 days... plus the nexus player's kernel is frustrating like hell!....

did you ever fix your sound problem?
are you ready to test?
I haven't had any sound problems and have been actively testing what is available for our Nexus Players in the past few days.....

Have ultimately reached the Pure Nexus ROM as my daily driver, and have things pretty stable for my typical use(mostly Kodi).

Stock ROM just got too bland for me.

Ready and willing to test something kernel related

Yes and no. I wiped cache the other day and then the sound seemed to work fine. But after a week of no use I had to go back and discovered the sound is just not right. I had to connect my PC to the TV in order to properly watch Netflix. Currently have the Nexus Player unplugged, but I can plug it back in at any time. :good:
