i actually have an official dex hdmi cable and from what i have tested it certainly doesn't activate on any tv/screens i own.. i haven't invested more time researching this tho..

nvm, it works.. not with the official hdmi cable tho

i got myself a 10 bucks worth hdmi and usb c (PD) adapter, it just automagically worked lolololol

now that is sorted out i only need to figure out why filmora stucks on this kernel 😂

Ace it's best you don't do Custom ROMs or higher android versions support. IMO higher Android versions custom ROMs are very pointless if updated over the "sweet spot" point for the hardware. The more you update the OS, the slower it becomes, it's inevitable. Android versions become heavier and meant for more powerful hardware.

It's a shame that you won't be making anything new though. But it's a choice to be respected. You carried S8 development for the last 4 years, so.

Quick question, is reboot alwaus necessary for "Little only" option to work or just toggling it on/off is enough?

Yeah thanks. It's a problem with time and money. I've calculated how much money the app should cost for just covering the costs I need for a month.
That must be 100 € for every app as an minimum to just survive the month like a poor guy. So I even don't think to try it at all, because likely nobody is willing here to pay 100 € for a better kernel and manager app. This is calculated according to the data provided by Google Play. The problem is that not enough S8 users did actually a purchase. So that's about the amount of sells. If much more users would by the app then it's of course possible to provide the app for just 1 € reaching the same result.

But the new app will cost 1 € and you will be able to use it on every rooted Android device.

Also I would like to fix random reboots for my Philips 3D smart TV.
Yeah that company literally stopped firmware updates without to fix random reboots. It's not possible to watch a film without to face a reboot.
I'm not sure if it's powered by the Linux kernel, if so maybe I can help.
I think a lot of people who have this TV would be happy.

If reboot is required the app would tell you. So not needed.

I see. That is a really tough situation. I really hope that you can somehow find a way to increase your income very soon mate. You do not deserve a struggle like that. Probably the new app can turn out to be a solid source of income. Root users in general are much more frequent than S8 root users. A vastly bigger userbase, so. As always with developments from you, I'll buy it and use it on my other devices, so in my little lane I do help.

Also I hope that TV has a Linux Kernel :ROFLMAO:

TV firmwares are usually STRONGLY neglected. So people have to take matters on their own hands.

Old or not, he made this S8 feel always new. Unironically S10 level of snappiness. A 5 years old device, yet its design still feels so modern. And with Ace's Kernel, it performs like a modern flagship without the 120hz screen. He did WONDERS for this device.



One could only IMAGINE what this man could've done given enough time, money, willpower, patience and energy, not only to the S8, but to other devices too.

I am not being unrealistic or exaggerating Ace's feats. It's just that this fella left a mark in S8 development.

In Summary:

He introduced Battery Idle and the possibility to charge at a faster rate
He gave us voltage control for the first time on S8/S8+/Note8, and for EVERYTHING IN THE SYSTEM
He increased available RAM
He unlocked GPU frequencies above that damned 572MHz
He allowed flashlight intensity tuning
He made frequencies above 2496MHz for Big Cores stable for the first time and he also achieved 2002MHz stable on the little cores
He wrote HIS OWN DVFS FROM SCRATCH AND TOTALLY DITCHED SAMSUNG'S MESS
He added some gamepad drivers (I don't use them, but that's a nice extra)
He made HIS OWN KERNEL MANAGER APP
Offers a SafetyNet Bypass
He allows to go for a Little Core only mode to save a LOT of power
He gives US the control for temperature up to 100°C. That is literally as much headroom as he can possibly reasonably give.
He introduced STABLE ZRAM
He offered us default performance profiles to quickly tune the device according to what it will have to go through the day
He's been CONSISTENT for 4 YEARS STRAIGHT WITH HIS UPDATES. And he STILL SUPPORTS THE ACE 2 TO THIS DAY
Even on stock frequencies, his Kernel makes the S8 smoother than a damn stock Exynos S10. UNIRONICALLY.

And more, but these are the most important ones to my eyes. And all of this world of tweaks is available for us to tune to our own preferences

for 1 damned buck. 1. It's all this man asks. I'd personally pay even 20 for this, since I no longer see this as a Custom Kernel but more like an entire revamp of the device. After all, it's not like we didn't spend hundreds to get this device in the first place.

Ace is a dude I would actually give 20 bucks to and trust whole heartedly that he would be able to make something amazing with the skills that he developed over the years. I know many people would prefer a much lower price, but I'm just saying what I'd be willing to pay.







Also he supported my totally mental obsession with benchmarking. That to me is already +10 points to gryffindor on its own


So this is my point of view, to be honest.

I have a question though, Ace. Other than occasional bug fixes if something ever comes up, is this Kernel technically finished? In the past you stated that your main objective was to make it stable. It is now. It doesn't reboot anymore and the missing features were added. The world can end, it won't reboot, lmao. Has the completion been reached?

Actually I can say yes this kernel is fully optimized and complete. Of course some minor bugs may be still there like audio issues if you add too much filters, but I think that'll be fixed in next build.
Other than that you may can expect some improvements in A2N app.
I want to make the performance profiles more useful and user-friendly.
I.e. changing things like up_threshold and CPU boost and maybe even temperature, input booster settings according to the profile instead of changing only CPU/GPU Freqs.

But my next toy would be that new app and hopefully some development for my 3D TV. I did some research and it looks like it's running the Linux kernel. For now that's all, but who knows, as long as i'm alive maybe I could start some new project. So I'm not saying that I'll newer build a custom kernel again. I did that for years because I did really liked it, but now somehow it became a bit annoying and boring to me. Because if I start to build kernel for e.g. S21 then it's more or less the same. All the features and improvements can be applied with small changes to almost every modern Android phone, especially from Samsung.

It's 1x USB 3.0 or not ? Due to the blue color. But you can add a cheap USB hub with lots of USB ports lol.

Hmmm but then if especially for Samsung phones, everything is more or less of the same, then does that mean that development times would be noticeably shortened for new custom Kernel or apps?

If that is the case then, you’d be able to get income from the users of other Samsung devices forums as well in a moderate amount of time. Though it’s sad to see that it was a passion for you and now it became boring. Maybe it’s new challenges you’re looking for? (Gotta do the double game somehow. Income while following your passion for Kernel development. You know what they say Ace. Find a job that you really like, and you’ll never work a day in your life).

Is this normal? Everytime I update I need to restart several times to fully optimize all the app. Like when you boot up your phone this "phone is starting optimising app 1-317 app" thing pops up right? I need to restart several times until that thing doesn't pop up like a normal boot.

Nope, you should see this only after wiping dalvik-cache. So i guess there is something wrong with your /data partition. I suggest to format it. Do a twrp backup of /data before, format, reboot to twrp and restore the data backup. If it doesn't solve the issue you need to do again the same but without backup and restore, means you need to configure your phone from scratch. Good luck!

    Yes but probably it's locked like all the other clocks it was. So it needs first some hacks like always. I remember on Ace 2 we OC'ed lcd_clk from 50 MHz up to 100 MHz. 100 MHz was sometimes unstable, but 80 MHz worked stable. Now that "50" is just LCD_CLK not refresh_rate. Also I don't know how it should be calculated ... 50 MHz = 60 hz and @ 100 Mhz = 120 Hz lol. Anyway at 80 MHz, probably around 100 Hz was it possible to scroll text without to cause eye cancer. Here on S8 there is also such LCD_CLK, but even increasing it, I don't see any difference, maybe I'll try this once again. There is also refresh value = 60, but even changing this @ 100, just changes nothing, so I suspect it's locked like I said.

    Yes, that's right, because it gets out of sync. @ 80 or 100 hz it'll run probably smooth without the need to adapt other stuff in ROM, which is way more complicated.

    A: Re-install it. If it doesn't help, wipe dalvik-cache in recovery.

    A: Settings --> network settings --> use private DNS server like "dns.adguard.com" - confirmed to work by user @Arnz09 - see his post here.

    Q: Why I get lower benchmark scores with this kernel compared with the Samsung kernel ?
    A: This kernel uses by default Max CPU/GPU DVFS Temp 65 °C to reduce the device heat. You can buy the full version of the A2N app to set the DVFS Temp up to 100 °C to get higher scores than on stock kernel.

    Q: Why the Android Battery setting "fast charging" has no effect on this kernel ? - It charges always with around 1500 mA.
    A: Because it would conflict with the built-in charger control.
    The default charging current of approx. 1500 mA means no fast charging by default, even if you actually see "fast charging" in the notification section. This is also useful to reduce battery stress and device heat. To charge even with higher speed/current than on stock kernel you need to buy the full version of the A2N app.

    Q: Why I've to pay money for just changing kernel settings ?
    A: Well quality has its price. Also nobody forces you to use this kernel.
    You can flash other custom kernels or flash the Samsung stock kernel from my download site. Good luck !

    Q: When we get an update ?
    A: This kernel is almost 100 % stable and works very well. Also this phone is now a bit "old" and therefore don't expect frequent updates.
    Also don't ask for ETA's and if you do anyway, I'll ignore.

    Q: How to fix audio stutering ?
    A: Increase the UHQ PM-QOS-LIT Freq in A2N app in "Audio" section.
    If you don't have the full version, you can run a cmd like this:

    Q: What is the benefit of editing the voltage table ?
    A: to increase OC stability increase voltage and to decrease the device heat, decrease voltage. Last one will improve performance due to less throttling ! So it depends on your needs.

    Q: How much is safe to undervolt ?
    A: approx -50 or -75 mV is considered to be "safe".

    Q: How to edit voltage table ?
    A: First of all: to set different CPU/GPU clocks or voltages you need to have Magisk installed and buy my A2N kernel control app full version. This will unlock all premium features of this kernel.
    To edit GPU voltages for steps > 572 MHz ---> use the A2N app full version.
    To change all the other voltages, you need to use ADB and later once you have found the proper voltages for your phone then you can write them to a script that will be executed at every boot.
    Note: this voltage table is from my phone. Your phone may have a different table, so please use your table when it comes to calculate how much you want to undervolt. (50 - 75 mV or 50000 - 75000 uV should be safe)

    Q: How to Report Bugs ?
    - Please DO NOT report bugs if you are:
    --- using "unsafe" Freqs
    --- not using the latest release !
    --- not using Samsung stock ROM (based stock ROMs are custom ROMs !)
    A: Open the red A2N Kernel Control demo app and check in-app-menu (3 dots) then "Debug" and then on "logcat and dmesg" if you faced an app crash or if some features didn't work.
    If the phone rebooted randomly, then tap on "last_kmsg". You will find the logs in your internal storage. After that you can attach them here in your bug report, by clicking "Attach files".
