Re: [KERNEL][WIP][4.2.x] dkp - d2spr & friends - 3/3/13

Data off, brightness low. I've gotten two days with mild use and horrible signal

There's more than corn in Indiana!

Also, don't under clock. I've had negative results under clocking. But I think ita the way the given our is setup. And if you under volt, let us know

I never really tried underclocking until you mentioned this. It definitely feels sluggish and I don't think the battery life was any better than 1512 MHz. freelunch has tons of tuners that can pretty substantially affect its behavior, and they're probably more effective than underclocking. I guess I should write up a description of how they work.

I undervolt pretty heavily, but my phone handles it better than most seem to. I have a "fast" device, and I usually run -75 mV across the board (so 775-1075 mV for 384-1512 MHz). Any lower and I get graphical glitches.

How's freelunch for your laptop coming? In its current state, it's probably a bit of a pain to port, since each input driver needs to be modified individually. I'd like to eventually rewrite the input code to be more generic, but I'm currently working on other projects.

Edit: 100th post, and I'm finally a senior member! Hooray!

Edit 2: New experimental builds up. There's not much new, just some more stuff stripped out and a newer Linaro toolchain used to build. I'll get started on 3.4 once it gets a little more stable (and CM stops committing so much).

I have to say I'm very pleased with this kernel.
Going to try the newest, but keeping a back up. Battery life is really good with great performance.
Thanks.
Thanks! Feedback is always appreciated, especially when it's positive. :silly:

In other news, there's another set of experimental builds up (the "no-initrd" ones). They recycle the existing kernel's ramdisk so I don't have to worry about staying up-to-date with CM. If anyone is daring enough to flash them, let me know if flashing fails or if you get bootloops (everything should be fine unless your old kernel was weirdly configured).

Re: [KERNEL][4.2.x][3.0] dkp - d2spr & friends - 3/3/13

Well, its coming lol slowly but surely. Actually was gonna work in it tonight! Need to fix some stuff where I messed up, the usual lol. 3.4 kernel is stable enough now. Yesterdays was the first to actually boot on my phone, so that says something.

There's more than corn in Indiana!

Flashed yesterday. So far no issues. Today will be first day to see if battery holds.
Benchmarks held about same. To be fair I only use it to compare before and after, and only stress it if there's a huge difference.

I am looking forward to this, personally. I started to get in an look at the freelunch kernel and how hard it would be to port to 3.4, for personal use.
A few things stopped me. I don't know enough about kernels to know if anything changed enough to bork freelunch.
Plus, I would believe its way more than a mere governor that makes a kernel really operate great and provide good battery life.
I am running a new build of AOKP, so I needed to go to 3.4. I have subscribed to the topic and will be watching.

Just know you have at least one big fan here!:good:
Keep up the good work.

Gong to see how standby time is. So far not as good as the original during usage. Only thing I've changed is the kernel. Kept same settings and installed nothing new.
Will repot at end of day if I remember. Sick baby so that has most of my attention.

I'm going to start work on 3.4, but it looks like there are more huge commits coming. If we don't lose power (storms in the area), I'll release test builds as I implement features. Hopefully I'll have a build up before you port freelunch for yourself.

There may be a few regressions, but I don't know what would have caused them. I'll take a look through my commits since the previous release. I don't remember making any huge changes, but it's been almost a month.

Development can wait, but a sick baby can't. Don't worry about reporting if you don't get to it.

3.4 test builds are on their way! I've got almost everything working. I haven't actually tested anything, but CM boots and seems to work fine. Overclocking and a few minor features are still not working, but freelunch, undervolting, and a few other goodies appear to be working perfectly.

3.4 test builds will show up here, and as I fix bugs I'll push new builds.

Edit: OC-enabled build is uploading now.

Downloading now. I'm assuming the newest is the overclockable one? I don't overclock really but willing to try.
Yeah. I don't overclock either, but it's one of those features that's expected of custom kernels. If you have any issues, let me know.

I'm trying to get the last of my changes working right now. The only things left are erandom (hopelessly broken, won't even boot) and FauxSound support (I don't think there's a 3.4 patch yet, but I'll probably write one myself).

Edit: the 3.0 FauxSound patches apply just fine.

I can't get either to boot.
Black bean 8. Tried everything I know, which wasn't much. Back on the faux sound test.
Is BB8 a 3.4 ROM? I don't think very many ROMs support 3.4 kernels yet. CM nightlies do, and Carbon 1.6 (not 1.6.1) does, but I don't know of any other ROMs that do. Off-topic, how is BB8 anyway? I remember flashing BB5 when it first came out, and it was a pretty decent ROM.

3.4 is still pretty rough around the edges, so you're not missing anything by staying with 3.0 for the time being. 3.4 really isn't quite ready for prime-time, and there's still a few Android bits that haven't been merged yet.

Once I'm done fooling around with LTO & GCC 4.8 (not going to happen), I'll probably repackage the FauxSound test into a real release, since it should be stable and I'm not sure what else I'll do with 3.0. I'll definitely keep it updated though.

Edit: so much edit.
