You'll have to wait then. I have to pay full price for my phones, this project cannot survive when only like 2% of users buy the app.
I face similar issue faced by others...Screen is off sometimes when we get calls..very annoying

Do you use any kind of debloater script, magisk module or similar?
Yes, terminal debloater magisk module.

Uninstall it, reflash your rom and then report again if it's working properly or not.
I'm facing the same issue as well. I have the xxx magisk rom installed but have been using it on my one plus 5 as well since years and that didn't cause any problems. For now I've used a hack (double tap power button to change to camera) then screen turns on and you can switch back to caller app.
Could this be related to the kernel?

I flashed the stock kernel again and the issue is gone ( I still have magisk installed and the xxx rom) looks like an issue with the kernel. Hope you can fix it because I really love the kernel wrt to performance and battery
I had a similar issue. While ElementalX kernel was installed, the screen wouldn't wake up while the clock alarm goes off. Or when someone attempted to call me.
Reverting back to the stock kernel fixed it. I'd like to continue using ElementalX kernel. But unfortunately, it's not possible in its current state.
EDIT: Looks like this issue isn't just isolated to ElementalX kernel. I'm using another custom kernel for testing.

Did you try any others like kirisakura or bluspark?
Not yet. I don't know about kirisakura, but I heard that there are issues with bluspark kernel on the non-Pro OnePlus 8. I try to stick with kernels posted specifically in the non-Pro OnePlus 8 forum, just in case.

Can confirm that the calls and alarm not waking the screen has been fixed in the 1.05 update. Using OP8 with magisk and xxx rom
Sadly, I can't say the same. Only stock kernel wakes the screen during alarms and phone calls for me.
What region is your phone? Maybe that has something to do with it? I'm using op8 global 12gb
