Team Fah-Q Presents...
Scorched Kernel for Blaze v1.0

Built with the Android NDK toolchain 4.4.3, the purpose of this kernel is to simply add features
and fix bugs. No big performance hacks are in the works.

It should work with any ROM that is derived from the stock GINGERBREAD.UVLF4 release. That being
said, it's only been tested on dKnight ROM.

It is STRONGLY advised to do a full nandroid backup in CWM before installing the kernel,
as the installer will overwrite kernel modules in /system/lib/modules. You've officially been warned :)

Features

IO Schedulers:
  • BFQ (NEW)
  • VR (NEW)
  • SIO (NEW)
  • deadline
  • cfq
  • noop

CPU Governors:
  • smartassV2 (NEW)
  • intellidemand (NEW)
  • lagfree (NEW)
  • ondemand
  • conservative
  • userspace
  • powersave
  • performance

Other Features:
  • ZRAM support (requires init.d script, included in the dKnight ROM)
  • Other minor tweaks here and there to the kernel configuration

Changelog and Downloads

2012-09-24 - Version 1.0 - tfq-scorched-kernel-gb_1.0.zip (MD5)
  • Initial public release of kernel
  • Resolved issue with redirection to WiFi Captive Portal login pages (showp-1984)
  • Resolved issue with Max CPU Speed not staying at 1.5 GHz, jumping between 1.18 GHz and 1.5 GHz
  • Added IO Schedulers: BFQ, VR, SIO
  • Added CPU Governors: smartassV2, intellidemand, lagfree
  • Added ZRAM support
  • Some kernel configuration tweaks

The source code for this kernel can be found on GitHub: https://github.com/jdheiner/SGH-T769_Kernel

So this is more of a Dark Knight specific kernel.? As in fixes some DK bugs.?
Please post questions in the General Discussion section to leave this thread clean.

To answer your question... No, this fixes bugs in Samsung's code :)

I am part of the team developing the dKnight ROM, so that's the one it's tested on. The dKnight ROM Build 8 actually uses an earlier version of this kernel. There's no reason why this kernel shouldn't work on the stock Samsung ROM, or any variant... I just haven't tested it.

Feel free to report back in this thread what other ROMs it works on.

Nice work merwin sorry I've been away but to answer unicorn further the "bugs" in dknight are actually kernel bugs directly from Samsung just you can't use apps like voltage control unless you root which you will then notice the 1.5 to 1.18 bug merwin is referring to.

And yes in case many didn't know merwin is our kernel dev for team fah-q (tfq) and we will keep dishing out more stuff. As I have spoken with merwin his GB kernel will add stuff but we are waiting for ics kernel source so he can add some awesome stuff to the kernel. :)

Again nice work merwin didn't mean to hijack the thread just wanted to clear things up a bit. :)

If helped don't be afraid to hit the thanks button ;) it doesn't bite lol

It should go without saying, but anyone flashing this should wipe davlik/cache after flashing (applies to flashing any new kernel). Reboot and enjoy! I didn't see this in OP and didn't want a Q&A thread hijacked by issues related to not wiping after flashing.

What WiFi issue is this?
Sorry I posted my issue in the Q&A section and said I would post logcat here later.

My wifi hangs when turned off. I can turn it on, but when I turn it off it stops at "turning off" for 30+ seconds and sometimes it never turns off. I didn't have any issues with the default kernel for dark knight v8 and restored nand backup from before kernel flash and it works fine. It's a shame though, as my phone was super fast after flashing your kernel :(
On my power control widget is stays in a "busy" state when turning it off. The wifi isn't connected and the status bar icon is gone but I can't turn it back on. It doesn't matter how I am trying to turn it off whether it is through the status bar, my power widget, or through settings.

I have tried flashing dark knight v8 from scratch and flashing this kernel and I am installing all apps from the market from scratch (not restoring from titanium), checked md5, etc. and it just doesn't want to turn off. If it is hanging at 'turning off' and I reboot, upon reboot it is on again.

Let me know if there is any other info you need that will help.

Edit: It would appear we may soon have ICS running thanks to the exhilarate ics... so may be something to put on the back burner.

Really odd, as the kernel from v8 is mine as well... not much difference. I'll put together an updated kernel this weekend and see if that helps.
