I’m a newb to flashing kernels, so forgive me if this is a novice question

But, is it possible/safe to flash this kernel over Remix OS 3.0?(the marshmallow kernel variant) on the Nexus 9

Thanks in advance!

Where are the EX kernel settings stored after the config? Is there a file or are they packed in the ramdisk?

How can I reset the settings to their defaults?

Reinstall the kernel or get EX Kernel Manager for full control
If I reinstall from EXKM which option should I select to start clean? Express or Custom?
I'm asking because I have frequent freezes and reboots and I'm afraid it might be one of the kernel settings and would like to start clean, with default settings, I don't want to preserve anything I may have set in the past.

Ive been experiencing standby battery drain (25% over roughly 7 to 8 hours) and was wondering what i can do to remedy this? Im running the nougat and am using version 5.17 of elementalx.

Use the Custom install, select stock default CPU freq and GPU freq. None of the other settings would cause instability.

See if anything is keeping the tablet awake, nothing in the kernel would cause drain.

I too was experiencing this (tablet was not entering deep sleep) when running SlimRom w/ElementalX kernel (not sure what combo you are running) and I found that it was the bluetooth location scanning that was causing the tablet to not enter deep sleep. To disable it, go into Settings->Location, push the 3 dots in the upper-right-hand corner (setting button), go into "Scanning" and disable "Bluetooth scanning". That fixed the "no deep sleep" issue for me...

You can confirm whether or not your device is going into deep sleep by check the lines below the battery details graphs in Settings->Battery - when the screen is off, the tablet should not remain "Awake"...

You can also install BetterBatteryStats and it will give you details on which apps are preventing the phone from deep sleep. But sometimes it's just a kernel wakelock like bluetooth for example and it's hard to trace it down to the guilty app. I've had problems in the past with apps like GasBuddy and similar that you wouldn't think they'd need bluetooth -- just poorly coded apps, using broken libraries for Bluetooth LE, etc

Im not sure how to check what was keeping it awake, but theres a long period of time in which it was awake. I left it for another 8 hours, but this time the battery only went down by 3 percent. When 8 checked on gsam, it shows that the kernel (os) is what is keeping the tablet awake. Bluetooth scanning wasnt on.

GSAM always says kernel because that's where wakelocks originate. Something has to ask for those wakelocks, try Better Battery Stats to see what apps are keeping it awake.
