There's some error logs. Didn't notice anything unusual while using the phone and while those errors happened. No freezings, lags and reboots. Screen on and off drain is about same level than with previous test version. Overall performance very good. I've put windows- and transition animations off and animator to 0.5. Interesting how quick the phone can be.

Edit. More logs. Nothing happened though.
Hi, thanks for the logs. Was this the testing zip you flashed? Or was it the latest one called vN?

What ROM are you running please?

There's been a lot more feedback in this build from the kernel logs. I filtered it to show only warnings and errors so that is what is attached.

Warning and errors aside the performance of this kernel for me was insanely good. With my transitions and animations set to .5x my phone is extremely smooth on this test kernel release. My first reboot it was like a brand new install it was so fast. Idle loss was VERY low (less than 2%/hr) but screen on loss was higher on this release. I suspect this has to do with Allo because it was at the top of my battery stats using a little more than 3x the mAh of the screen.

Overall performance is astounding with me applying zero tweaks to the kernel. Hopefully the logs only lead to improvements.
Hi, thanks for the logs. What I'm really after are kernel logs. What ROM are you running please?

Also, be aware, when you flash a kernel there's no need to wipe caches. This will save you time and power when you reboot.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Happy to help out. The ROM I'm using is OP3Lite 2.4.2 rooted and your latest test kernel. It included SuperSU 2.78-SR1 but I did not have Xposed installed or any other third party mods. Just a debloated Stock ROM.

Edit: if I posted the system logs instead of the kernel logs that was a slip up on my part. I was checking them both but must have exported the wrong section of logs. Sorry about that.

It's op3_vN.zip.
Stock oos 3.2.7
Rooted with SR1-SuperSU-v2.78-SR1-20160915123031 and suhide-v0.54

Hey. Is dmesg.log the only one you want. And if everything goes well there's no logs needed?

Yes, kernel logs (dmesg) please. If everything is running well then there's no need to send anything. I'm mostly concerned that the kernel doesn't cause a battery drain. In fact battery life should be improved.

After successfully testing the upstream patches what are your plans with the kernel? Will you add extras like an option to disable Fsync and additional tcp congestion algorithms?

I actually had a secret plan which I kept under my hat as I wasn't sure if I had the time to adapt it something from cm.

If you're not familiar with @Sultanxda here's the thread.

...and there's some very nice kernel commits in cm:

https://github.com/sultanxda/androi...mmit/9e5003554b79afa1045100c97d2375a752eeb6fe

https://github.com/sultanxda/androi...mmit/133e2471f9427b8b56ba5f596f9e8602e3b05bda

...that stop the capacitive/home keys from working while your fingers are on the touch screen.

This in my opinion is a very nice improvement and some nicely written original code. Cyanogenmod has quite a lot of changes to the OP3 source already (to enable all the cm gesture stuff), so I had to adapt the commits a little to make it work.

All credit to Sultanxda of course. Go to their thread and give thanks!

Another test version with these commits: here

Thanks for adding this! That was really annoying. Works flawlessly!

Thanks given.

Looking forward to other secret plans of yours ;)
This kernel provides pretty good battery life but feels so fast! Thanks a lot!

Well, as you can see I've re-joined XDA... I still enjoy kernel development, and I like to share my work (and get help testing!)

I think since mako I've radially altered career path, from maths teacher to reporting analyst. I'm making fair money, but I enjoy the work so it feels like I'm robbing them! The thing about teaching maths was (sigh) you never actually get to do any! But my current job has problem solving at its core. And I'm basically burning the candle at both ends because after work I'm coming home and slamming straight into git and C to build this project.

I just need to go off on a tangent about numbers, since I've been listening to Feist on a heavy rotation, and I just noticed my thanks meter has hit 303: Feist, flight #303 (youtube)

...just a weird coincidence!

What about you? Seen any amazing development? Tempted by the OP3?
Woops, totally fell off the map for a minute there. Good that you've found a more personally fulfilling use for your skills! And we know you'll always have plenty of testers to be found here on XDA.

I'm sorely tempted by the OP3, but I just got my 6p back for the 2nd time and it seems to be in working order. So just a liiiittle less motivated now.. My roommate just bought one, so I'll make sure he gives your kernel some love if we don't scare you off again.

Cheers man, glad you're doing well for yourself.

Can you flash back to the previous test zip and confirm it works as expected please?

Then can you flash forward to the latest test version and confirm it isn't working properly? This will be really helpful feedback.

Can anyone else confirm?

I flashed previous test zip - no issues.
Flashed latest test zip - issue is gone. Between, i was testing boeffola kernal and came back to ur latest kernal. Not sure could it be because of that. But anyway its super now

Did you flash stock boot.img (or dirty flashed your rom) before you came from boeffla?

@bedalus

Should you add instructions to the first post, to people coming from other custom kernels, to flash the stock boot.img or dirty flash rom before installing your kernel.

Good point, I'll sort something out.

Maybe @NevaX1 can confirm that his boot .img files are fully stock OOS (no ramdisk modifications):

Edit: Just been a cheddar in NevaX1's thread. Hopefully he won't hold this against me!

Is this the same as the last test kernel?
Nearly, but there's a few more of the kernel-common upstream patches in this one. I've been testing the benign looking stuff on my own, and it's checked out just fine. The weirder changes were in the public test versions, but there's been a healthy amount of downloads and no problems reported so I'm happy to merge everything into a general release.

Hey @bedalus. Do you know why gpu freq stays at 214Mhz when screen is on and there's no load? Should it be 133 Mhz instead. It's the same on boeffla and elementalx, only in blu_spark kernel it's lower.
