For some reason I have never been able install a kernel....... Any ideas I have not been able to flash a kernel since I got this phone. Any suggestions as to why or what I could try?

Probably can start by creating a thread for help in the QA section instead of asking the same questions in multiple threads here. Just a suggestion

Hey guys!
I recently installed the ElementalX kernel and bought the EX Kernel manager app, But, I've been seeing different settings all over XDA for better performance of the device. I personally don't see an improvement in battery life over the stock kernel. So please tell me the settings I need to use in the kernel manager app for best performance and battery life.

Thanks.

I honestly don't know how much extra battery life devs will be able to squeeze out of the pixel devices. They seem to have optimized the software and kernel very well for the hardware it is on. The battery in my pixel xl is 400 milliamps larger than my lg v10. That had a 3000 milliamp battery. I got 4 hours sot on the v10. I get 8.5 hours on the pixel xl. That extra 400 milliamps isn't giving me the extra 4.5 hours of screen on time by itself. That is software optimization. Sure I know the CPU and GPU in this phone are more power efficient as well... But still for a battery thst is only marginally bigger, you don't just double battery life without optimization.

Performance? I'm sure we can get more performance. Will it effect battery life? Probably.

Now I'm just rambling on... I don't know much. So take this all with a huge grain of salt.

So far I've only done a few minor optimizations and added features like wake gestures, high brightness, vibration control, sound control, color control, backlight dimmer, etc.

Soon I will add the ability to underclock which might help battery, and you can use the backlight dimmer or lower your brightness manually. But the battery stats I'm getting right now are really great and I don't see a whole lot of room for improvement. There is no kernel change that will radically alter your battery life.

Hello,
I have the latest v 0.08 Elemental kernel flashed on my Verizon Pixel xl. I also installed the EX kernel manager (version 2.94) which seems to be working fine, except when I choose elementalX from the menu it tells me it could not find a compatible version, but shows 3.18.31-ElementalX-P-0.08 as the kernel installed. Do I need an updated version of the kernel manager?

Thanks.

It is missing for me now that I reflashed and reinstalled from scratch.

Which makes sense because when I try to click on the HBM widget or notification tray icon it says "not compatible or not rooted". It was working fine on same setup before I flashed stock and reloaded everything due to a failed TWRP restore attempt.

I have cleared caches and wiped data and still no good. Reinstalled all EX Kernel apps, made sure widget has root access through SuperSU. Reflashed Kernel etc.

I think it may currently be broken til we get another update.

Yeah, it's definitely missing for me even after re-flashing kernel and re-installing kernel manager & HBW.
I'll do a super-clean reinstall later on to see if it comes back.

I wouldn't worry about it. Same for everyone.

I can confirm that TWRP+SuperSU+EX works perfectly.

I did:
  1. Fastboot boot_a and boot_b with stock
  2. Fastboot boot TWRP
  3. In TWRP, flash TWRP
  4. Reboot TWRP
  5. In TWRP, flash SuperSU
  6. Reboot to verify TWRP+SuperSU worked well
  7. Fastboot EX
  8. In TWRP, flash SuperSU
  9. Reboot

You could (can) VERY probably flash TWRP then fastboot EX then flash SuperSU directly.

    Update!!

This version is flashable in recovery.

    Simply flash in TWRP recovery.

You do NOT have to install SuperSU after this. It works whether you are rooted or not, and there will be different options depending whether you are rooted or not. If you are not rooted, the only options you get will be max cpu frequencies (overclocking/underclocking). If you have root, then you will get options for s2w, s2s, backlight dimmer, fsync, and iosched.

    -new installer

    Update!!

    Version 0.07

Sound control is updated to add earpiece, mic and speaker controls and to fix problems with gain resetting. Hopefully I covered every scenario. Thanks to @chdloc for guidance.

I need to update EXKM for full sound control. It will have gain control for main speaker, earpiece speaker, mic, analog and digital headphone gain, plus a toggle for stereo mode if you are using @chdloc dual speaker mod. Eventually I will also be redesigning the sound controls to make them easier to use, but that won't be in the next update.

    Also includes November security update

    Update!!

Initial release for Android 8.0.0 Oreo. Everything is like the Nougat kernel, except the installation is tricky at the moment.

Something changed with SuperSU and my old way of keeping root seems to have stopped working. I have not had time to investigate, and likely won't until TWRP and everything is settled. For now, you will need to install the stock boot.img, flash ElementalX, then flash the latest SuperSU (doing this in a different order will probably either unroot or restore a backup boot.img).

I did not test with Magisk.
