could i use this to build pixel experience ROM?

You can but things like alert slider, touchscreen gestures, panel modes and probably the FP sensor might not work properly.
You'll have to import drivers from LOS kernel to make it work.

Edit: try sticking with LOS kernel to get a rock-stable base or try Weeb kernel if you want something more up-to-date with more features.

Or he simply chooses the right branch. :p
