Hi. I've installed elemental x kernel via official ex kernel app and i noticed that aroma installer is not working. Also i didn't notice any difference in battery life and on the other hard higher temperatures appeared in some occasions, compared to stock kernel. Have you noticed anything similar? Thanks.

I should mention this kernel is the one thing making stock Android 10 on the October Patch usable, without this kernel i get random soft reboots that never boot back up and display flickering while charging.

UPDATE 1 DAY AFTER FLASHING: i had 1 random unrecoverable reboot today, which is still far less than i had when on october patch with stock kernel.

Hello good sir. I'm sorry to bother you and I hope you don't find this rude. I enjoyed the use of your kernels on my original Pixel XL for many years and recently upgraded to the new model. I was hoping to continue that trend and wanted to ask if you had plans to support the 4th generation? Thank you for your time and efforts.

I haven't decided yet. I've been losing money on Pixel devices for the last two years, not sure if I can afford it. It's almost $1300 for the 4 XL in Canada.

Can't get the backlight dimmer to work. After enabling it in ex kernel manager the minimum brightness remains unchanged from stock. Running Android 10 on Oct update.

I am currently running everything stock on my P1XL. Is there a way for me to flash this kernel without a custom recovery (since TWRP won't be released for android 10 any time soon). I do know that I can flash a custom kernel boot.img via fastboot, however I can't find the boot.img for the elementalx kernel anywhere on the kernel's website.
Any help is appreciated.

I have a Pixel XL too, though I'm running the evolution ROM. TWRP works but it can't decrypt your data if it's encrypted(which it is by default I'm pretty sure.) I just used a USB flash drive. It worked for me to flash my ROM, magisk, and element x.

Super easy. Just use the EXKM app- flasher option. You won't even lose root. It will flash the kernel zip and reboot and your phone will still be rooted.

You can get a USB drive too. I paid $14 for a SanDisk 128 GB and it's great! I bought one with an old Android connection because I still use a few old phones that aren't type c and I grabbed some adapters but the adapter that comes with your pixel XL works too. Probably the best accessory to have I believe.

Maybe try this: fastboot boot twrp.img then re-flashing magisk root zip and also the installer zip for twrp and see if after that you can use the EXKM app to install kernel.

(Edit)

To me it's worth removing encryption by formatting data and flashing magisk root. Speeds things up a tad. I honestly don't believe I've had a device that was encrypted since like the Galaxy s2. Lol.

You can use ElementalX application, it will install the kernel automatically if you have root, no twrp needed.

I am using a Pixel XL with the October Android 10 factory image. I have installed Magisk. Launching the app I get a pop-up saying it was granted superuser rights. However, when I have the App download and install the latest kernel, it reboots my phone into the stock recovery where is says "no command"

The replies all seem to say use TWRP, which does not exist for Android 10 yet, afaik, or to just install from the app. Is there an image I can flash from adb or am I missing something?

Also, does anyone know how to remount /system as RW in Android 10? Everything I have tried has failed. (I need to modify build.prop for wifi tethering.)

Thank you!!

Fastboot twrp

Downloaded latest twrp zip from the twrp thread for the Pixel XL. I've used it countless times with Android 10. Albeit I just Fastboot the twrp zip, I don't install twrp to my phone

Sent from my Google Pixel XL using XDA Labs

I go a step further and install it permanently, if your phone is encrypted, it can't read your storage. I have flash drive so this is not a problem for me. If you have one, I'd say it's worth installing it so you don't have to pull out the computer each time. Just use the regular procedure, boot the image and flash the installer.

    Update!!

This version is flashable in recovery.

    Simply flash in TWRP recovery.

You do NOT have to install SuperSU after this. It works whether you are rooted or not, and there will be different options depending whether you are rooted or not. If you are not rooted, the only options you get will be max cpu frequencies (overclocking/underclocking). If you have root, then you will get options for s2w, s2s, backlight dimmer, fsync, and iosched.

    Update!!

    Version 0.07

Sound control is updated to add earpiece, mic and speaker controls and to fix problems with gain resetting. Hopefully I covered every scenario. Thanks to @chdloc for guidance.

I need to update EXKM for full sound control. It will have gain control for main speaker, earpiece speaker, mic, analog and digital headphone gain, plus a toggle for stereo mode if you are using @chdloc dual speaker mod. Eventually I will also be redesigning the sound controls to make them easier to use, but that won't be in the next update.

    Also includes November security update

    Update!!

Initial release for Android 8.0.0 Oreo. Everything is like the Nougat kernel, except the installation is tricky at the moment.

Something changed with SuperSU and my old way of keeping root seems to have stopped working. I have not had time to investigate, and likely won't until TWRP and everything is settled. For now, you will need to install the stock boot.img, flash ElementalX, then flash the latest SuperSU (doing this in a different order will probably either unroot or restore a backup boot.img).

I did not test with Magisk.
