FYI: I'm a super noob when it comes to rooting, but I want to learn! Phone is C115. Is location an issue? I'm in the US, but they didn't release the phone here. Not sure if that matters for the rooting process with a custom kernel.

I've had the phone for about 2 years now, and I just recently started running into serious space issues. I have a 64gb card, but the amount of data the "move to sd" button moves is laughable. I'm looking to root, which I see in this thread, but I have not manually rooted anything yet. I understand the principles behind it (have some experience with programming/coding), but I'm so nervous I'm going to brick my phone!! On the other side, I don't want to use some program like kingroot because I don't really trust it. How idiot proof is the rooting process here? lol...

If you follow the exact steps listed in the first post it should be pretty safe
At worst you should still be able to restore a stock rom easily .

I read that people bricked it using the C115 tutorial.
I want to silence the camera shutter sound. Thanks!

This worked for me on European device (simply download and flash via odin):

No need to root it for that. You can disable the shutter sound in the camera app's options. At least on the C115.

I don't see it in my options. The C115L is from Korea and I read that it's illegal to disable it in Korea....
