Hi,

I have NEW Orange phone that I want to apply this kernel on (still not rooted):

FW : 2.3.3
Baseband: I9000JIJV9
Kerenl: 2.6.35.4-I9000JIJVG-CL879239se.infra@SEP-51 #2
Build: GINGERBREAD.JIJVG

Can I use this kernel with latest version (2.7.4)?
10X

No you can't ... You need older version(much older than 2.7.4) to root it.

My advice is ,flash latest stock rom XWJWB 2.3.6 then do not root it :) 'cause jwb's kernel is much newer than 2.7.4's... (Sema. 2.7.4 is JW5 based) and firmware releases by date (older to newer);
JW4 April 2012
JW5 April 2012 (Semaphore kernel based on this)
JW6 .....
JW7 ....
JW8..
JW9.

And JWB(February 2013)
Currently there is no official cf root for jwb but i saw unoffical one...If you really need root (really) i'll test than one and give a feedback

Thank "sdreamer94".
But actually all I want is to upgrade my ROM to 4.2.2 and because I don't have Root&CWM someone told me to install this kernel and after that flash the new 4.2.2 rom.
I think that flash back to stock and after flash kernel and after flash 4.2.2 rom is too long, do you have another suggestions?

That doesn't change that Semaphore runs better - and I wouldn't say that Samsung worked hard on the kernel.

You should look for Chainfire's root kernels in this forum, take the right one, flash it and afterwards you're ready for Jellybean :).

You can't flash this kernel, it's only for stock firmware. Search a CM7(.2) kernel in this forum!

Problem invoking factory defaults

Hello all και γεια σου Στράτο :)

just decided to upgrade my *stock* Greek 2.3.3 to 2.3.6 XWJW5, following the (Greek) guide at http://www.myphone.gr/forum/showthread.php?t=306882

All went well. Even selected COSmote as the operator, using the menu opened by selecting *#272*IMEI#.

Then I decided to flash the semaphore 2.7.4sc kernel. Did so using Odin. Then I thought I should perhaps re-enter the operator code, using *#272*IMEI# sequence. The phone rebooted and threw me into the STOCK recovery, stating that it is unable to format the devices. The same happens if I select (from within the phone) restore factory defaults: the phone reboots, but at startup it throws these errors at recovery...

Note that if I press vol+, power, center button, the CWM recovery from Semaphore pops up. And it allows me to do a format for both data/cache without error!!!

Is this something to worry about? Did I do something wrong?

I dont know the code you typed.
The correct steps are.
1. Flash the firmware with Odin and with Pit file
2. Flash Kernel via Odin
3. Reboot system
4. If bootloop occurs go with 3 button combo in cwm and wipe cache and dalvik cache
5.reboot system

Ok, I did that first and started the phone for the first time. After some setup that involved changed the product code to COS (Cosmote), I (essentially) performed a factory reset. Phone restarted correctly, doing the essential formats...

2. Flash Kernel via Odin
3. Reboot system

... then I shutted it down and did this step. Again all went fine. I started the phone up without a problem. At this point, I did again what I did in the previous step: I issued a *#272*IMEI# command and as a result the phone rebooted to defaults, however at startup, the default recovery of the phone came up stating that it is unable to format the 3 partitions. However the phone booted-up just fine.

My question is whether the restore to factory defaults-associated error is something to worry about. Apart from that, phone seems to operate just fine...

Is your phone working without that code ?
If yes forget that code. Because that code resets User data and changes the sales code.

This is a kernel rebuilt from the latest updated gingerbread sources and based on the CF-Root kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108).

    Features

    - Voodoo Sound v10
    - Voodoo Color
    - OC/UV (1200MHz, 1300MHz)
    - BLN
    - CWM v5.0.2.7
    - Speedmod color fix
    - Patched with the latest Samsung kernel sources.
    - JVU initramfs
    - compiled with Linaro GCC 4.6.2 toolchain
    - O3 and other compiler optimizations
    - 337 MB available RAM (353 bigmem versions - it breaks 720 video recording)
    - Auto brightness driver
    - Reworked cpufreq driver. cpu states 100-200-400-800-1000/1200/1300.
    - Bundled with Semaphore Script Manager to v0.62
    - su binary v3.0.3.2
    - Governor ondemand (default)
    - ondemand: sampling_down_factor tunable by momentum
    - Governor conservative (module)
    - Governor smartassV2 (module)
    - Noop I/O scheduler (default)
    - Deadline I/O Scheduler (module)
    - Simple I/O Scheduler (module)
    - Netfilter (iptables) as modules
    - CIFS as module
    - TUN as module
    - Logcat disabled (as module only)
    - cpufreq statistics as module (is loaded by default)
    - Standard network packet scheduler
    - Kernel log buffer size 4KB (from 128KB)
    - deleting boot sounds procedure creates backup on /data/local
    - Battery polling to 60 seconds
    - jhash3
    - No debug info
    - TinyRCU
    - HZ=256
    - CPU frequency on stock music player when screen off to 400 MHz

    - enabled /proc/config.gz
    - bootloop detection (clears init.d directory, if the phone does not complete 2 minutes of normal operation)
    - Script to change /cache to virtual 50MB (in case you want to download apps > 30MB from Market)
Make sure to disable this option before convert to ext4. You may enable this after the conversion

In order to control voodoo sound and color and BLN you have to download Voodoo Control and BLN control applications respectively from android market.
The max CPU frequency is by default 1Ghz.
You may use applications like Voltage Control to control UV.

In order to load various modules of the kernel and enable or disable features use HM.Carbide's Semaphore Script Manager application. It automatically copies and runs the respective scripts from /res/scripts to /system/etc/init.d directory. The scripts:

    - S05enable_oc_1000_default (disable overclocking)
    - S05enable_oc_1200 (enable overclocking to 1200MHz)
    - S05enable_oc_1300 (enable overclocking to 1300MHz)
    - S10enable_gov_conservative (load and enable conservative governor module)

    - S40enable_cifs (load cifs module)
    - S42enable_bl_dis (disable bootloop detection)
