This is a custom kernel image for you to use. IT WORKS ONLY ON STOCK ROMS!

CURRENTLY TESTED VARIANTS:
SM-J500FN
SM-J500F
SM-J500G
SM-J500M
SM-J500H

Status: Stable

Features:

1. Compiled with Linaro Toolchain.
2. Choose Interactive governor instead of Performance for extended battery life.
3. Config access through /proc/config.gz.
4. Removed stock cpufreq limit API.

How to install:

1. Install TWRP Recovery from here if you don't have it.
2. Place attached .zip to the root of your external SD Card.
3. Reboot to recovery with vol+/home/power.
4. Flash zip from link below.
5. Reboot system.

TO DO:

1. Add more cpu governors and i/o schedulers.
2. Enable overclocking.

I can't test other variants but you can test it yourself! Please read the topic once again.
Until CM comes, we can stick with Interactive governor compiled. It scales cpu so we have more battery.
As far as custom hotplugging is concerned, I use the default qcom hotplugging. You should be fine in terms of battery life.
You can also use something like SetCPU if you are rooted.
Report if something is wrong, so we can get it fixed.

Great news. We definitely need a forum...
@Nick Verse : Regarding cm, few months ago, two developers started to work on cm for J5 and I've been one of their tester. Their cm was stuck at booting and the logcat was showing an error regarding surfacelinger or something like that. I saw your post that the cm you've working on is booting but has some problems. Maybe @aapav01 and @CTXz can help you fixing them.
