The safest should be 1.8 i guess, since the developer published it with 1.8 freq as maximum. But keep in mind that XDA, the developers arent responsible if something happen to your phone because its your choice.
i understand that, everything is my responsibility. I only have a few questions if you can answer will be of great as i am yet to decide whether to overclock or not!

Is battery life seriously affected after overclocking to 1.8ghz and gpu to 720mhz? also there are two linaro kernels one by nick verse adn another bydj_steve which one will be the best for my j500f?
does device heats up badly after overclocking to 1.8, as i assume you might have tested it yourselves.

I have J500FN and tried first version of DJ Steve, but switched back to Linaro Kernel by Nick because my battery was draining faster with DJ Kernel although phone was faster, but i didnt overclock it. Once you overclock, the battery will drain faster and the CPU should have higher degree as well.

I didnt overclock it because it is not necessary for me, so i dont know about temperatures. You can check the temperatures with Kernel Adiutor. During summer / hot weather, my phone usually stayed at 37-40 degree when in idle and goes up to 50 when i do something which use CPU much. Now, in my city is colder and CPU temperature stays at 30-33 degree in idle. You can also check battery temperature with Kernel Adiutor.

The question is: do you really need to overclock? Answer that yourself, and dont just overclock because you can do it or because it sounds exciting. Its up to you.
Personally, i dont need any overclock because phone is fast enough as it is and i dont experience any lag at all.

sorry but i have already rushed and flashed dj_steve provided kernel and it has flashed without any issues. Surprisingly the device default values were changed and was working on max frequency of 2.07ghz which i have brought down to 1.5 .

will the log still be available so that i can post it here?

Someone did answer u but I will say this from experience
Try sticking with the stock that comes with the ROM like don't flash nick kernal on cm 13 by zonik. It creates problem ad I faced it . The reason u shouldn't use another kernal is cause the kernel is optimized for that specific rom.
And I will also tell u that why don't u make an ndroid backup and test with the 2 kernal. And I will afvide u to go full speed cause if u think that battery consumption is higher than just use another settings.
