USB OTG Improvements?

Ok, so I'm not sure if this is a function of kernel or what but I'll post here with the request and maybe you guys can help identify if it's a kernel issue or not?

I purchased two Inateck HBU3VL3-4 USB 3.0 hub with gigabit ethernet. The Ethernet portion of the device initially did not work with a micro usb to full usb adapter, but the usb's did work. Following some instructions from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-player/general/howto-100m-ethernet-np-t2954475/page2, I plugged in Ethernet cable, turned the device off, plugged it in the back of the player, booted into recovery and restarted and woila! this worked!!! ;)

The problem though is this has worked exactly ONCE. As you know during testing and things, we wipe and reset etc etc. After a reset, I CANNOT get either dongles to connect via Ethernet at all. I'm wondering if this is a software issue in the Kernel somewhere? Forgive me I'm not a programmer. Why on earth would a USB dongle require a reboot into recovery is beyond me in the first place, but it worked ONCE.

My router, wire etc all are fine, as I have tested an eliminated everything else. I'm also having a hard time believing it's a hardware issue, since the problem only started after resetting and the neither of the devices work on Ethernet. They both work fine with external thumb drives so the USB portion is functioning.

I'm curious without a recovery for this device how are we able to convert to F2FS? Also can some sort of Read Write mount USB drive or device for storage be built in.

Not sure I understand, after rooting the device I used a 16gb MircoSD card with a usb adapter and plugged it in. Worked fine, ES File explorer was able to see it, however, emulators were not. After using stickmount by chainfire, I was able to fully mount the USB drive and all emulators can now see partition. I think it mounted as /sdcard/usbdrive/sda1 if I recall.

That is how my USB shows up, as sda1, but its not consistent sometimes it shows up in ES File Explorer sometimes it doesn't like after the Nexus player goes to sleep sometimes it disappears until I run stickmount again.....

Stickmount was able to automount the usb device every single time, I've already upgraded to the Pro version. My concern now, is the the Ethernet connection. Not sure why it won't just work like the first time....

Is there some ifconfig type command for android that I could run via adb? I'll have to investigate these commands see if I can come up with something. I'm guessing that the devices would show up as wlan0 and eth0 somewhere... just not sure how to check.

Okay now I've asked four different places and I still can't get an answer on how do I get the pro version onto the Nexus Player, I purchased the pro version I have the free installed but nothing I can find gives me the license apk and clicking on upgrade to pro does nothing either.

I'm using Plugable USB 2.0 to Ethernet and works great my USB hub is also a Plugable 2.0 4-port powered.

Here's a suggestion:
Install it on your phone, go to ES File Explorer, swipe to right, click on Apps, scroll down and backup both stickmount and stickmount pro apk files. Copy both files to local computer.

adb install stickmount (wait till install), goto Nexus player, run it once. Close it.
adb install stickmountpro.apk, goto Nexus Player and run stick mount. (There should be no indication you installed the pro version.) At least that is how it is on the phone.

I'll be doing the same shortly.

Also, it seems that my Ethernet Woe's have fixed themselves. I'm not quite sure how or why. Disabling Wifi automatically kicked it over to the wire. I was under the impression that on boot, the wire takes precedence over wifi, but I digress. The Mitch in the Glatrix has taken care of itself :) for now.

Maybe I could just do similar steps but backup from my rooted tablet to DRIVE then push files to Nexus player with Send Anywhere app or maybe just download from drive.... Thanks for triggering my brain thoughts....

My method from above works, stickmount pro shows up and there is indeed a secondary app icon, but I doesn't do anything.

Yeah, I suppose there are 4-5 different ways to get 'em on there. Good luck and thanks for the feedback.

I used the backup on tablet upload to drive then download to NP now have pro installed and my USB automounts after reboot even. We'll see if it stays consistent.

Sent from my Nexus 6

Does this still work with the latest update? Does this improve performance by a lot? And last question is will I have to lose all my installed content to flash this? Thanks!

suspend option

For a feature request would it be possible to get a suspend feature?
I upgraded to the nexus player from the pivos xios. My main grief with the NP is it doesn't suspend android and my plugged in HDD is always on and spinning. Any one know a fix for this? I tried 3rd party app like quick boot. It does work to shutdown or restart the NP but no way to turn on the player if it shutdown but by unplugging it.

Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

Does the timeout/sleep option in Android settings not turn off your drive? I've got a SSD attached, so I can't tell if it is still running when my NP goes dark.

I realize my request for a feature to suspend android isn't kernal thing. sorry about that.
But would it be possible in the Kernal to turn off power to the USB when the NP goes into sleep mode?
Something like this

my drive stays on at all times. i set my suspend on the NP to 30 mins but drive never shuts down unless I unplug it.

On another note I just flashed this Kernal and it's awesome! I can stream certain content now with less stutter that I couldn't before like IPTV on Kodi or even native apps like Vevo work better.
Google really needs to get their stuff together. It's lame that we need to go through this much trouble to get out of the box functionality working.

Thanks for your work.
