I'm thinking of trying out this kernel due to the apparent battery savings but I'm getting really good battery life on stock (rooted) so can someone tell me why I should give it a go?

Got just over 5 hrs screen time before it died

Well looks like u were on WiFi throughout the charge cycle, but if u use mobile network, it will drain more more more battery, even when phone is idle. I've been on stock for first 2-3 days, battery was dying crazy when I'm at work where T-Mobile coverage almost nonexistent. And I've tried franco kernel, trinity, matrix. Even though they are good with battery, Franco being the best, I get really bad network, and I think the reason I get good battery life on those, they slow the network or something like that, i don't know exactly. I used to get good reception, fast data on stock kernel, but battery was the issue. When I tried all those kernels, battery was good, data speed not so much. So I tried cold fire ROM and faux kernel, man my battery is good, so is data and network. Nothing slows down. When phone is idle, I almost got no drainage. Also, I bought the faux app, and used the recommended settings, I got the slower network like other kernels. So, that's telling something. I am using no change in faux app, reflashed the kernel, just the way it is in the first place. I don't think u really need faux app, kernel itself is awesome. U could buy the app, way to say thank you to faux123. Well, I did. Just try code fire+faux. U will never be disappointed. I promise you. One more thing, when u go to into xda app, when it is loading, u get loading circle right? That circle spins really fast, and xda loads really fast. I watch Netflix a lot, and Netflix loads as fast as the stock kernel. Other kernels really slow. On my personal experience, Netflix drains battery like a snap on all the kernels, but stock and faux buffers much faster. I m not leaving faux ever. Thank you so much, faux123. Hope it helped you, and convinced you to try this kernel. I'm not getting paid or anything to write this, LOL. Just my experience.

How much does underclocking the gpu help battery? Does the default run at 400 all the time or does it scale between 200 and 400?

Thanks

Custom kernel gives more options to tweak and check out things that stock kernel often does not provide. If you are happy with STOCK kernel, I don't see why you need to change it at all. But if you like to see maybe get even longer battery, you could give my intellidemand governor a try (esp eco mode), and judge for yourself if a custom kernel is worth the effort or not. You can ALWAYS revert back to 100% stock kernel by reflashing my RESET kernel at OP.
I just took the plunge and all seems to be running smooth.

Most of the ROMs/kernels I flashed on my gs2 was to get it close to stock Android as possible (I finally settled with cm10 and Siyah) so I was a little hesitant to root my Nexus straight away. Haven't looked back since I rooted a couple of weeks back though ;)

Bought your app a few days ago to calibrate my screen and it's been a godsend!

I'm interested to see how this development continues so will be subscribing to this thread now :)

Does anybody else can't get the kernel to boot?
Both, beta6 and the mainline kernel just hang at the splash screen, even after more than 10 minutes. Caches etc. have been wiped, clean install of the ROM didn't help either.
I'm on Paranoid Android 2.99, build from 15.12.12. Other kernels work just fine.

1. Flash reset from OP
2.Flash the beta
3.reboot

Faux are you sure the GPU clock change is actually doing anything? No matter what I set it to, FPS in-game never changes. For example, NOVA 3 runs the same with the GPU at 128MHz as it does at 487MHz. Same with GTA 3 and GTA VC or any other game
The gpu page does function. I use 200 as my max and I always see it switch b/t 128 and 200. I don't use the 400's b/c those are overkill, most wanted, real racing, and others work just quite well at 200mhz. I think the issue is that the games you're using aren't demanding enough to max the GPU.

Hey faux, do you plan to lower the voltage limit at some point? I've been able to run 700 mv for the lowest few frequencies on another kernel, but I like many of the features yours offers. Just curious, and merry Christmas!
