Follow-up to my post above. The new combination of kernel and stock 253 rom, at least as it works for me, is unusable. There's something stuck in a CPU loop (I think). Last night I noticed quick drain, plugged into a PC USB port, and it actually would not keep up. I did get a 100% charge overnight on a wall outlet, but upon unplug I am using about 1% per MINUTE.

The phone functions but is laggy at points. I put BBS on it last night, and it spends most of its time saying "computing". The drain is only slightly better when the screen is off. A reboot seems to help somewhat then it gets worse again (I've only rebooted twice so take that with a grain of salt).

I have not set any OC or other changes, beyond installing the kernel itself.

First attachment is a screen shot showing the result of developer option show cpu.

Second is a BBS dump, and a BBS generated logcat. Not at ALL sure if I had that configured correctly to be useful, first time trying to get data.

Hopefully this is helpful.

Can I take the TFT I built from the vanilla 253 and flash the kernel only in some way, to get the phone useful, until I can figure out what is wrong? Or do I need a complete wipe and return to 253?

EDIT: I used Flashtool to flash just kernel and cache back from TFT I built from the 253 download. Phone boots OK, too soon to tell about drain. Apparently I still have root. Lost recovery that was in this kernel of course. More later after I get a bit of time on this kernel.

Have u test re-flash ftf file using flashtool (exclude kernel flashing) after u flashing doomkernel v7?

No, but here's what has happened since. With the stock kernel restored, the phone was a bit more responsive but still draining battery fast. I noticed under BBS that kernel wakelocks was very high for "PowerManagerService", which I understand leads you to user partial wakelocks, which was very high for Mail Service, specifically exchange.

So I checked my email, and one of the two exchange accounts said it had no mail, would not synch, was just dead. The other was working. It definitely had mail earlier today, so I think it was a matter that it couldn't actually manage to display mail it had.

I removed that account, and added it back. It then worked fine (took a bit of time to download of course). Once it was downloaded, battery usage dropped to seemingly normal (i.e. not moving so fast I could watch it go down!), and after 20 more minutes this partial wakelock had no not grown significantly.

So I SUSPECT that something happened when I installed the first kernel (perhaps unrelated to it, and in fact I think perhaps late in the day since it did run normally for several hours). The DooMKernel seemed to consume MUCH more battery in this state than stock, and cause the phone to run much slower -- perhaps some slight difference in scheduling algorithm that reacted badly to what was an unrelated stuck mail process? I don't know.

But I'm going to put DooMKernel back on, so I can get recovery, clear both caches, and see what happens. If it still is running amok, will wipe all the data from mail and try again, and see if maybe mails data store was corrupt causing some thread it uses to run amok.

More later...

EDIT: Reinstall with fastboot, during reboot enter CWM, clear both caches, phone is up and running. Too soon to know if fixed, but all signs of lag are gone and both emails running. Most obvious difference is from the show CPU. Compare this screen shot to the one I posted above.

EDIT #2: After a busy day using it, down only about another 25%s, so battery drain completely fixed. I am 100% convinced it somehow related to email (specifically exchange), but I have no idea how it came to be, whether it related to the upgrade, the DooMKernel install the first time, or something totally unrelated. But so far very stable at everything I've done today, root worked, recovery worked (didn't try anything but cache clear and reboot), camera is MUCH improved in 253... happy camera again.

DooMKernel (v07) Released!

Changelog:

  • updated to latest souces 10.1.1.A.1.253

  • updated Sound Control to v2.1 - now supports Headphone control! (thanks to faux123)

  • added and enabled Dynamic File Sync (thanks to faux123)

  • added and enabled Overall Freq Stats - this will give correct idea of the time spent by the particular CPU in that state (thanks to faux123)

  • added and enabled MSM CPU Freq Limiter - this module will allow proper max CPU freq control across all MSM cores (thanks to faux123)

  • force 500mA charging current on unknown chargers - this is a good safety net to protect device with unknown chargers (thanks to FreeXperia)

  • GPU increased lowest freq bus speed - this should make the GPU stay at lower frequencies properly (thanks to Entropy512)

  • GPU rework sysfs implementation (thanks to Entropy512)

  • lowered CPU undervolt voltage to 600mV - now u can undervolt more :)

  • updated to latest CWM6.0.3.2

Please do consider sending me donation if you like my work!

download links at first post!

Keep watching the TO-DO list for planned/work in progress features

Cheers!

How do you verify it?
There is tons of voltage control apps on the Play Store, just use any of them. I use faux123 Kernel Enhancement Project apps, previously it just reverts back to 700mV if I set anything lower, now it can go to 600mV like it should.
@DooMLoRD I see on Z thread that you testing GPU over/underclocking, if you need someone to test that on ZL I would happy to be your tester :)

Flash mode = hold volume up + connect to PC
Fastboot mode = hold volume down + connect to PC

Here's a few things a have noticed after flashing the latest version of this kernel

1-The CPU is set to 1.9Ghz by default and if I change it to 1.5GHz using TricksterMod or No Frills CPU control it won't stick [ if the phone is rebooted]. No Frills CPU says that the shutdown is unclean even when the phone was properly turned off. I tried flashing the kernel using fastboot instead of CWM and the stock .253 ftf thinking it might be the culprit but the outcome is still similar.

2-The phone becomes very hot even when doing light gaming when running at 1.5GHz. With the .253 advanced stock kernel this didn't happen.

No scripts or mods except for the PureXAudio v16.5. ROM is stock US C6502 .253 FTF . I'm starting back by installing your advanced stock kernel.
can u try this:
  • first backup ur current ROM
  • then do a full flash of stock FTF (DO NOT WIPE USER DATA)
  • then flash this kernel
  • reboot and check if u have same issue
  • if issue persists then reboot into recovery
  • do factory reset in CWM recovery (this will not wipe SDCARD)
  • then reboot and check if u have same issues

Hello 'DooMiLoRD', how's it going?
I have a few 'uneducated' questions, so please bear with me... :p
I came from a Samsung Galaxy S i9000 and throughout the last couple of years I've gotten used to using CM combined with Stratosk's Semaphore kernel, more recently his Semaphore Control Manager app as well. He's been developing for LG Nexus 4 for the past couple of months. Given the similarities with the devices hardware wise, would it be possible to somehow develop a new DoomKernel based on his and your development for the Z and ZL? How willing would you be to build a CM 10.1 kernel/app manager combo with features such as Live OC, Fast Charge, Call Answering through proximity, etc (I'll try to add screenshots of his app manager).
I imagine it's a lot of work and that you are busy, I hope you don't see my open ended questions here as a demand or anything. ;)
Anyhow, I'm currently running stock 253 with your kernel and I'm loving it (UC+Fast Charge)!
Thanks for everything man! Have a great day!

Hello DooMLoRD, it is been impossible to find a car charger that "+charges" when the screen is on, do you think that the current could be increased in that case?
Thanks

So after flashing v7, I sseem to have lost access to my internal memory. Keeps asking me to mount internal memory. And when I tried to mount ad card in cam, I got an error, any help would be great

Flashing v6 brought back access to my internal storage. I'm thinking it's just the partition script baked into the kernel. Thanks for all the hard work as usual Doom.
