Just read that too. Also saw that an OTA update will fully enable knox on the Note 3 and support 4.4 at some point. After all it is Samsung's flagship phablet..... Who knows, but I have some hope we will see an official 4.4.

AT&T will probably deliver 4.4 when Google rolls out its next version. Hell phones like the S4 and One just got 4.3 weeks ago I believe. I already have 4.4 running on my Nexus 4 perfectly thanks to the guys here who ported the Nexus 5 Build.

4.3 was released at the end of July. If they got 4.3 a few weeks ago then I'm actually impressed the wait time was not much more substantial. I'm hoping to have 4.4 before the end of January. It sounds pathetic but I'm also realistic.

Guaranteed both the Note 3 and S4 get the 4.4 update next Spring for sure 100%

But first a new phone called the Galaxy S5 will be the first Samsung phone running 4.4.

Rumors are that the S5 will be released in February or March the very latest, which is only a few months away.

And Google won't have another Android OS release until at least their big Dev. Conference = Google I/O in May / June, which always comes with a point release, so most likely 4.5 then.

I see the Note 3 being the first current already on sale phone to get 4.4 about a month or so after the S5 release. Which would put the Note 3 update in the March / April timeframe.

You can bank this :)

how to get hot words to work!

You have the Google launcher installed and are not able to say the hot word on the home screen to launch a search right? That's the state I'm in but the first time I installed it I had the "OK Google now" hot words working and I could search without button pressing. The I got greedy and installed almost everything I could from the dump and it went downhill from there. Had to reinstall stock with root to get back to a clean state and now I Dont have the hot word functionality...boo

It makes me sad to see all these other manufacturers updating their phones to 4.4 before 2014 and samsung has yet to release any kind of plan to update. The LG G2 is looking better and better. Better battery stamina, so card support, better camera, better build quality, unlocked bootloader and thriving dev community, plus they just announced they were updating to 4.4 come december. I think it's time to sell this phone and get a g2.

Good luck with that. 90% of LG phones I've had the displeasure of using have been garbage.

I'd say so too but every since the Optimus g they have made a real turnaround. There is a real good chance I'll just tough it out and stick with the note 3 anyways unless I find someone willing to make it worth trading on craigslist. But seriously, check out the battery tests between the note 3 and g2. There are people getting 24 hours on a charge without trying. Honestly the only thing keeping me is the larger amoled screen.

A reply email from samsung;

After reviewing your email, we understand that you want to know the availability of Android 4.4 update for your phone.

We should inform you that as of now this update is not yet released for Samsung devices. Unfortunately, we are unable to speculate when/if this software version might be available due to the fact that this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion. However, should this become available, it will be posted on Samsung website. If there was any information, we would have surely helped.

Is it true that the nexus 5 is the first handset carrying the kitkat os?
Yes. The second phone to get it is looking to be the LG G2 with the HTC One right after. (If LG runs into a snag and do not meet their December time line HTC will probably be second)

Edit. Wow I was completely forgetting about the Google edition phones. HTC google edition one will be the second phone to be getting 4.4. Then probably the s4 GO then the above. Woops :)

i see. by the way could it possibly that kitkat os can run to the low end phones not just flagship ones. Take a look at the galaxy pocket neo, looking at its features one may consider it a low end minus its jellybean running os.

It's possible. It's really up to the end manufacturer to release the final version, then the carrier to bloat it up. Google is just making it less resource hungry and more optimized. I really hope that they are going towards being completely modular. Upgrading to 4.4 could (should) have been just updating with a delta file that changed what needed to be changed without involving samsung and att.

hmm..i think so, but hey, is it also true that the more cores are, lets say quad core an android has, the m0re that its a power hungry shark? So its really helpful if a manufacturer bundled it with a higher mah battery, because i think that kitkat os will applied to dual/quad phones, plus added functionalities..so if a 1500 mah battery is on board, i guess it cant stand a whole day's work.
