KitKat 4.4

It's possible. It's really up to the end manufacturer to release the final version, then the carrier to bloat it up. Google is just making it less resource hungry and more optimized. I really hope that they are going towards being completely modular. Upgrading to 4.4 could (should) have been just updating with a delta file that changed what needed to be changed without involving samsung and att.
Samsung may want to implement bug fixes with kitkat so I doubt they'll just swap the core android stuff and ship it out. Then we'll have ATT just sit on it for awhile, basically do nothing, and finally release it a few weeks later than it should have been at a minimum.

Yeah everything I've read says Samsung shouldn't keep us waiting too long...hopefully. I also hope the HTC One doesn't get it first because I also switched from it to the Note 3. I'm thinking my next phone is going to be a pure Android Nexus.

Yes. The second phone to get it is looking to be the LG G2 with the HTC One right after. (If LG runs into a snag and do not meet their December time line HTC will probably be second)

Edit. Wow I was completely forgetting about the Google edition phones. HTC google edition one will be the second phone to be getting 4.4. Then probably the s4 GO then the above. Woops :)
Well actually The Nexus 4 will be the 2nd following by the Google Play One and S4 editions.

Wow, all of you have very short memory.

Unless things have drastically changed (and I dont think they have), Samsung has been terrible with their time frame on updates.

Compound that with the three letter carrier AT&T and you have a disaster.

I had the Captivate and Note 1 which typically received updates a year after they were released by Google, hell, the Note 1 just got Jellybean earlier this year in the beginning of May...

The Note 2 is still on Android 4.1. It never got 4.2.2, never got 4.3 yet, and who knows about 4.4 on the N2.

The Note 2 is three Android releases behind. And it was a flagship device for 2012.

That doesn't bold well for the Note 3. I'd say the Note 3 gets the 4.4 update, shortly after the Galaxy S5 release in February.

This pretty much sums it up. Note is not marketed like the s3 and s4. Updates are gonna be iffy

Wow! Lol. The Note 3 is barely a month old. We were foaming at the mouth and salivating in anticipation. With full knowledge of 4.4 being released soon after. And now you're dang near ready to jump ship because of your doubt of getting the update?! Tighten up on the impulse itch. The note 3 is still the best spec'd smartphone to date.

It's not my doubt of getting the update, I'm sure we'll get it after samsung and att have the time to bloat it up, it's the locked bootloader, no choice in roms, it's a number to things. I pre ordered this phone the first day I could seeing how well the note 1 and 2 did and expected the note 3 to be the same. Honestly if we could find a way to unlock the bootloader I'd me infinity happy with this device, but seeing how the s4 is still locked down I don't have much hope for it. I had thought about swapping it for the g2 but in the end decided not to. I'll deal with the inability to play around with the kernel and roms and focus on other things that need my attention.

So when is it acceptable to speculate whether we receive an update on not? There's nothing going on in this thread but speculation based on past experiences.

Who is threatening to jump ship? The majority here are overly optimistic, relax.

Bottom line, 4.4 is coming to the Galaxy S5 first next year. No way the Note 3 or S4 get Kit Kat 4.4. before the S5 is released in Feb / March.

After the S5 release, I think the Note 3 will be the first phone in line to get 4.4 maybe a month or six weeks after the S5 has been out, followed by the S4 after that, and then who knows about the N2 or S3 ever getting it...

Wow, there are some ridiculous people in here. You bought the phone with 4.3 installed, a locked bootloader and no guarantee to get anything beyond that. Either be grateful and enjoy your phone or jump ship. Nobody really cares, I can assure you.

That was actually me. I was seriously thinking about trading someone for a G2 based on reading about the stellar battery life, prompt update schedule and unlocked bootloader, but the screen, removable battery and s pen keep me.

Including you. I pre ordered my note 3 from seeing the evolution from the 1 to the 2 not looking at what happened to the s4 att community. I went from an s2 (awesome dev community) and went to a nexus 4 (even better dev community, but missed the lack of an sd card.) When I pre ordered I had no idea the bootloader would be locked. I also read on sammobile when they were speculating the note 3 that it would surely be the first to get 4.4 from a tipster. Why should I be grateful that att and samsung has kept me from using my phone to its full potential when att isn't requiring some other manufactures to do the same? If I would have known what I know not when I pre ordered I would have gotten the g2 and saved some $ and headache. But oh well.

I actually owned the G2 for a month and this is the better phone imo.

Also, we have root, xposed framework and wanam. All you are missing out on is a cut and paste rom that someone debloated for you. I think you are giving a custom rom a little too much credit. Unless you want aosp, then might as well just get a Nexus at that point.

don't forget about nandroid backups. I can't count how many times I've had to restore a backup because I was stuck on the boot screen after tinkering. Also kernels. I enjoy seeing how much I can undervolt and under clock without noticing to stretch my battery life. And yes I'm a fan of PA and Cyanogenmod (both my s2 and nexus 4 ran cyanogenmod nightlies)

I've already rooted, debloated and xposed but now it feels like I've hit the plateau of tinkering with performance and options. Not saying that's a bad thing, I just enjoy tinkering.

Now back to the subject of 4.4 who else is excited about ART?
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...-in-secret-for-over-2-years-debuts-in-kitkat/
I doubt the note 3 will get this option until 4.5 or 5 but it's exciting to see this level of optimization coming to android
To be honest, I'm not really all the excited about kit kat. It was supposed to do all this optimization and in turn produce stellar battery..but the Nexus 5 battery isn't too good.

Hopefully this isn't the norm. My buddy mostly uses his iPhone and keeps the Nexus at home on wifi because of it

I don't get it. If you want the latest android updates then get a Nexus device...

I've got one.... You don't get the need for being kept up to date? One of the deciding factors in signing a 2 year contract for this device was knowing it would last me the entire 2 years. I'll probably give in and get the nexus 6 but I'll still have my note 3 and would hope it won't age too horribly.
