Near as I can tell it must be app specific. ES FM has write permissions on SD for me as well. But X-Plore and others don't. (I prefer X-plore for dual pane navigation which is perfect on a huge screen like the 12.2) I wish there was a way to simply grant individual apps full SD write access without root.ES file manager
I'm rooted but haven't done the Platform.xml fix yet. I wasn't able to create a folder or save a document in Hword.Question for Sterist : I'm rooted and I've already blindly done the platform.xml edit and am too lazy to revert back. Zaptoons noted that another issue is the inability to freely save Hancom office files to various folders on external microSD. Is that working for you as well and can you describe how you tested that in detail?
I can't answer your question directly because I rooted mine. However, I do have a genuine Toshiba 64GB UHS-I which can't be written to by the 12.2" even rooted. My other 2 cards have no such issue (Samsung 32GB & Sandisk Ultra 64GB UHS-I). The strangest thing is that this Toshiba card works perfectly with all other devices, including Tab2 7, Tab 3 8 & Xperia SP (all rooted). This card has been tested okay with different PC softwares so I have no idea what the problem is. Maybe it's UHS-I capability issue? Also an OP said something about having a counterfit SD card and it not working, is this real or is it just I have not rooted and applied the fix yet? Seems like some programs on the device have written to the card, even if the program can't save to the card. $60 sure beats $200 for the 128gb card.
thanks very much, it's much clearer now, added it
Rooting doesnt always trip knox - it depends on the root method. Also, you're not going to lose warranty over rooting because un-rooting the device is even easier than rooting. There is a bunch of apps that do that, including SuperSU itself, and you can also just flash the stock image back via Odin.Rooting means Knox = 1 why would I want to throw out my warranty on a device I paid $750 for? That is an awful big risk
3. means nothing to people that never done this "Add an additional group definition for this permission", really and how do you do that?
My question is this ( I know what board this is ) but nobody has an issue rooting even if it means no warranty?
I tried all those methods and i still can't save anything onto my SD card, I cant even use TiBu...something about missing an .android_secure file or something...Rooting doesnt always trip knox - it depends on the root method. If you're afraid of rooting then perhaps XDA forums isn't the right place for you...
As far as SD Card permissions go - yes, Google really fuked them up in KitKat and they're getting heat about it from the community. However, there is no need to manually mess with xmls and other system configuration, if you're not sure what you're doing - there are several apps on the market, that fix those permissions and revert things back to normal - just search for "kitkat sd fix". Also, there are several advanced file managers, such as FX, which have the sd permissions fix available in settings. There is also Xposed module for this, and @jrummy19 took care of this in Rom Toolbox as well. He also released standalone app on the market. Needless to say - all these fixes require root.
