Hello guys. I just disappeared for big time due work.Sorry for this. Now i got some free time.
I know many want 5.0 for defy. But after look to 1gb and 512mb devices with lollipop..They all got big problems due memory leaks in android code. And it will not good, if very big time spent for nothing...Only if just for fun.
So, 5.1 fixed many memory problems of 5.0. And i want ask, are there someone who use Defy as main phone and really want update to 5.1? Because as i read this thread, most use it just for fun or as second phone. Android 5.1 wll take not little time to get it fully working..
Or better focus on 4.4?
What you think about it?

5.1! Please! Great idea Quarx. I still use my Defy on a regular basis. Can't and don't want to live without it. BIG thank you for all your hard work and dedication over these past years. It was and still is a great ride.

I too use it as my main mobile device.
I think that, I would love to have Lollipop, but faster and stabler KitKat seems a more reasonable target to aim for.

Simple feedback : i've been on build 27-03-2015 for almost a month now and i'm pretty satisfied of it. Very few bugs and reboots. AND it does handle swapping between 2 apps

I have exactly the same problem for quite a long time now. I thought it was my hardware since my defy was build from 2 broken defys and nobody else complained in this forum about this problem. I have tried using a cheap, non-original, bigger battery, but that lead to even more problems. Have you tried using another battery

Yeah, it's definitely NOT a hardware problem. Happened just after installing new-life. And I could see in the script that it wiped 'old batt data'. So, something happens with battery management after installing these builds, since old pre-newlife builds didn't wipe that, if I'm not wrong.

I'm using phone completely without Google stuff. F-Droid is working.
Gmail and YouTube are known that they do not work without GooglePlayServices!

I win 100MB of that do not use Google Services

i bought a new defy+ beginning of this year. since updating it to CM11 the camera isn't working any longer (picture inverted/upside down, no autofocus). i first had installed the nighlty of 2015-01-21 and updated then to the version of 2015-02-28, but no difference. "a better camera" has also the same issue and google camera crashes immediately ...

any idea anyone?!

Did you manage to solve it yet? I'm still with that same problem here and happened while trying flashing different cm11 versions, some time ago, so I guess it should be a software error. But full sbf didnt help. Still, i think those full sbf leave some stuff untouched. I may try upgrading BL some time (higer sbf version)

Thanks for your support, honestly I only use the Defy as a side device but it'd be cool to have 5.1 on it even though it has an ages old OMAP 3 SoC, I think it'd be interesting if you could focus on Sailfish with Libhybris ( sailfishos. org/hadk ) or a full GNU/Linux distro based from beaglebone kits, perfomance wise sailfish works great even on the lowest end phones

Nemo and the Mer project of which Sailfish are based upon both were originally made for the Nokia N9 which has the same OMAP 3 chip

Have you a defy+(mb526) red lens? if yes in one on my files is written reffer to @mahadikrs member, sbf of course ITS NOT THE SAME if you have defy mb525 is the same.As for the way to flash the new bootstrap.img is the same( is detailed explained via ADB),also the resize zip must be fllash as usual via TWRP.This is the reason that i wrotte read carefully!

First of all, thanx for keeping the Defy alive!

If the WiFi and MMS bugs are unfixable, I'd leave 4.4 as is and play with 5.x.

If you can fix the remaining 4.4 bugs on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48305766&postcount=1039 (especially 34 [WiFi] and 48 [MMS]) please do them first. That should allow everyone to use the Defy as a real smartphone, not just as a vintage toy.

What i did:insert the .img file on sdk platform tools,opening adb inside via shift+ right click on mouse and run the code,then reboot in recovery(see attached files)but to do this the SDK must be on your PC(read how to via Google).Otherwise if you follow the way.txt in witch is written:but follow excactly the instructions on #1 on this site for installation builds after 1/10/14.The new zip is 13.10.14 154615 defy, from this extract the 2 zips bootstrap zip(on cache file there is the new bootstrap.img file that i used to flash via ADB) and resize zip and follow on #1 to see what must do e.g what first and so on,the file system now is repartitioned,at the end flash the rom zip and gapps via TWRP and reboot.Impossible to sent you the zip because of its size(30,891kb)All these are completely explained by me.My suggestion is read,read,read and try then.

3. install bootstrap via android terminal ( Terminal emulator android )

OK follow the way refered by you, but where you read this " - wipe data wipe cache"on OP #1 ? Anyway try and if all good done no proplem. If your device is soft bricked you have to start from sbf (you must know your stock rom and the bootloader version you have,to see the BL version turn off the phone and push together power on and vol+ buttons) BUT before and after sbf flashed via RSDlite make wipe data/factory reset from STOCK RECOVERY and go ahead,when rom installed you see the TWRP ver. 2.8.0.0. All steps refered looks good.
