I'm surprised. Does this mean you might have switched off the phone for all of New Year's Day, and it would have come up on Jan 2 without an issue?
I'm running a Milestone2 (which is similar to the Defy, and its CM11 is derived from @Quarx's) and did not spot any misbehaviour. (No, none of my contacts has Feb 29 as her birthday... Lucky me?) Trying to build a ROM myself now... I'd like to learn where the bug was hiding...

I´m not really sure about that. As I had read, the HTCs failed only on Jan 1st 2013, with the "process.acore has stopped" error, and were normal the day after. My phone, however, showed many different error messages on Jan 1st, acore error included, even after factory reset. The next day it still showed all the messages except the acore error, and this time the factory reset fixed it.

No, none of my contacts has Feb 29 as her birthday... Lucky me?
Honestly, I don´t even know if I have any contact with birthday on Feb 29. That was just what supposedly happened with the HTCs, and it´s the only thing I found that was remotely similar to my case. If it helps, I´ll check my contacts later.

I just noticed that there haven't been any nightly rebuilds anymore, the latest is dated Nov 24, 2016. Going back a few pages, I cannot find any announcement by @Quarx - should I be worried?
What I also didn't find in the OP: a "repo init" URL to rebuild the ROM myself. (There might have been one, but probably not for long.)
I understand that Quarx has moved on to more interesting devices, and that ARMv6 is a dead end, but... Any insights?

Hi, thank you so much for this awesome project!

I'd like to update from my 2014 image of Android 4.4, but I entcountered a problem with the defy.7z download (file not found). Could you please reupload it?

Does the defy.7z also work for the Defy+ and are new_boostrap.zip and resize.zip contained in this file?

Cheers,
Christian

Finally i can resolve my Telephony Layer problems changing my sim card with one brand new . Also i buy a new motherboard for my defy now i have GPS and a Red lens :D

Here a tutorial for Sim Unlocking in Android 4.4

1-Check if your baseband is EPU93_U_00.59.01 ... because is the only that works the sim unlocking. If not in the zip there is a SBF you can flash with RSD Lite
2-Reemplace bp_ptc in /system/bin and init.mapphone_umts.rc in / ... FIX PERMISSIONS !
4-Reboot and Enjoy

Time to upload things....
Code:
#include
/*
[COLOR="Red"][B]* I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications.[/B][/COLOR]
*/

Be carefull! This is first version and can cause random problems!
This will WIPE your data except sdcard!!!

How to install and resize partitions:
1. You need TWRP recovery.
2. Download all files from http://quarx2k.ru/defy_newlife/ - Soon will work link. Mirror: http://ge.tt/api/1/files/5Ja0etz1/0/blob?download
3. Boot into TWRP
4. Install PrepareZip_1.zip
5. Reboot and enter to TWRP again
6. Install PrepareZip_2.zip
7. Reboot and enter to TWRP again.
8. Install cm11.0-defy-newlife.zip (It's latest cm11 from 23sep with changes for new table)
9. Reboot into OS.

Restore to default table:
SBF + wipe from Stock recovery

Would it work for a nougat rom and gapps?

I've been trying to flash this following the instructions.

I go into sndinit and then into TWRP. When I try to install new_boostrap (from v4 file), it automatically reboots into a logo bootloop that ends with the screen on but blank and the red led on. what do I do?

Help! defy bricked after installing resize.zip

i installed resize.zip and new_bootstrap.zip from TWRP and rooted from there , after rebooting i tried to get into the new recovery by pressing the recovery button during boot. phone wouldnt react to it. also the phone wouldnt boot into stock android 2.3.6 which was already on the phone. so reflashed stock using rsdlite but afterwards stock android wont boot . its stuck in an endless loop showing the motorola boot sign. several attempts of flashing different stock roms led to the same issue . how can i fix this ?

Edit: just fixed it during factory reset and cache wipe from stock recovery.

if you resize you can't boot into stock android afterwards => your device is cleaned ...

i rooted stock and installed cm10.1 including twrp and installed the resize and new_boostrap.zip again from twrp. at that point cm10.1 not working anymore is not even the problem, it is rather that i cant access twrp anymore because new_boostrap.zip and resize.zip seem to mess up twrp . the phone boots with the motorola sign and at the bottom left corner it says "recovery" but the phone freezes there and is unresponsive to whatever i do.
so reflashing stock android is the only option i have from there, which worked after doing factory/cache reset from stock recovery.

Edit: upgrading to twrp 2.6.3.0 resolved all issues

It seems to be fast, but every restart, the phone forget every settings, and want to set up from the language settings :(
I want to install any ROM, but i unable to enter the recovery.
Power ON, and volume down is show a ! dead android. :(
Any other way to enter recovery?
Where did you find that zip?
