Hey guys

A lot of you seem to have little issues with the HTC One X so I decided to make a thread where we can gather all those issues to find out if you are alone or not. Which is important to know if the problem is related to your specific device or rather some software issue.

Bugs
  • Screen stops turning orientation, even in settings menu G-sensor no longer moves. - POSSIBLE FIX : Go to taskmanager and kill all tasks - All credit and thanks go to casca
  • Calendar widget crashes if more then 20 appointments - TIP : Just remove the widget since it will keep crashing until you remove it...
  • Other HTC widgets seem to be causing lag too.
  • GPU Rendering can't be forced.
  • Live wallpaper stops on switching between screens
  • GPS issues - Possible fix : Download gps status on the market and clear the a-gps data - if this works all credit and thanks go to matmar
  • Screen starts "jumping"
  • When browsing/camera/other Sense 4.0 related tasks -> It looks like there is "noise" on the screen. Like this
  • SIM card stops working/restarts/no connection
  • The three dot menu button appears in some ICS native apps, like the YouTube app for example. - Fix for this in Dev section (requires unlock)
  • Tegra 3 games (and some others) lag, this is probably connect to some video driver bug. (Hardware is fast enouf to play it without lag)
  • Screen reactivating after using the lock-button (only 1 click ofc)
  • When opening the Clock app (just by pressing the clock on your homescreen), and moving to the Timer-tab (the one on the far right) it always adds one hour, one minute and one second to whatever time you set it to.

Issues
  • Lag in Multi-Tasking window and other elements - TIP : Go to Dev Settings - disable animations. This improved the speed a lot for me (even thou most animations keep on running, only the excessive ones get turned off) [This lag is clearly a software issue, other launchers are lag-free; should be fixed soon]
  • A lot of people are reporting signal problems. (No clue what's causing it)
  • Yellow spots on the screen

Always try to Factory Reset your device if you have a problem. Most of the time this fixes it. (Last resort)

Post your bugs and issues and if they get posted frequently I'll add them to the list.

Note to people who are planning on buying an HTC One X :
The device is still a great piece of technology, every software has bugs in it at the start! Don't get dissapointed because there are some minor glitches in the software, most of them will be fixed within 7 days from now (Update).

When i use the power button to turn off the screen it occasionaly turns on to the lockscreen after 0.5 seconds; Not always, normally when the screen was on for a longer time.

Glitches all over the place...

backlight not stable on light grey picture. (With my device i noticed it when i searched a grey pic on google, and zoomed in, the backlight flickered 1 second to "settle" after that it was good). On full birghtness i didn't had the probleme.

I am not satisfied with that phone.
It is not fast and laggy sometimes.
Multitasking button is not responding a lot.
When open some apps with black background, the resolution of the black color background sucks and shows blurry lines. It appears when adding gmail account.
I tried talking Tom and i found that it is working slower than in sensation and lags a lot.
I hate sense and i like to see AOSP Rom soon.

I'm glad I didn't buy this phone yet. Every day that goes by, I want this phone less and less seriously. I think I'm gonna wait for the Galaxy SIII. I'm sure I won't be disappointed with it. I refuse to spend money on a high end phone to see many glitches and lag at launch, even if it is fixable with ROMs and kernels, you shouldn't have to do that . Come one HTC

Yes you have be be glad because u didn't buy it.
Sense 4.0 really looks ugly except the clock  and it also consumes the battery life.
The dialer also looks very bad.
Why does HTC love this old green color over the awesome blue one released as default by google?

I hear what you guys are saying. The only issue i've seen that really concerns me is this glitching i keep reading about. Although I did see a review from netbooknews.de that had this issue with noticeable lag in the multitasking button and screen taps.

I would love to say that you don't have to worry about it but the reality is that you probably won't see a fix till CM9 is released or some other AOSP build.

Instead of slating it immediately, how about trying to use it as stock/unrooted, like the way you received it. Your sig says you've already rooted and flashed a different ROM - how do you know it's not the alternative ROM giving the grief.

Sadly this isn't the problem in most of the cases. Until now only Sense 3.0 costum roms are available, the issue is however that all this roms are BASED on the stock rom (because devs don't have acces to scource code of Sense 3.0).

A lot of issues you experience in the costum roms are caused by bugs in the code of Sense. But this isn't always the case ofcourse! Let's hope HTC fixes them soon.

I agree that this phone isn't as snappy as I had hoped, its much the same as running sense 4.0 on my sensation.

That said, I got the DHD on release, and there were plenty of bugs, same with the sensation.

In the end, the hardware is top notch, the software will get sorted over time. It's the price we pay for being early adopters of a new model.

I lol'd... Well just go buy your sgs3 or whatever then. Why did you choose this fone? Had you not experienced sense 4.0 in your previous fone? Maybe you hadn't rooted that one, who knows. Or maybe, just like my wife, your not happy unless you got somethin to ***** about.

Sent from my rooted HTC Desire S which was buggy and had a crap battery when i first got it but i was expecting that even though i'm not very techy using XDA

Amen to the above.
One more thing: the annoying menu button also appears on some native ICS apps, like the YouTube app...

This happens with all android phones.. don't expect s3 to be perfect.. but by the time it launches this phone will be patched out properly

I have three HOX and honestly I dont experience most of the problems being circulated here.

Just thought I'd speak out for the silent majority who don't experience much probs.:D

we bought four today all of them with the software glitches, video corruption in the gallery but wasn't replicated in MX player but the status glitch is there

all sealed taiwan build with HT242 serials (new serials) smaller package in height than your photo, the ones you have are older

all of them with varrying amount of screen flex/creakiness but all firm and not too loose

the grey ones had the ripple effect if you press hard on the sides only, except the white one which was flexing the most (but still tolerable) but zero ripple

yellow tint started to get better after use, screen colors are even, not dead pixels or any defect in all of them, the white one had a pure white

    so yes to conclude:

    - screen flex is very common, varies in severity, has no effect on the screen
    - screen ripple when the screen is pressured hard from the sides is also common, one sample did not ripple no matter how hard
    - Pure white screen or slightly yellow hue like the iPad3 (the ones with warm screen are out of box so they might get better with time, the white one with perfect white screen was used for over a week)
    - Software glitches triggering by something maybe video playback, glitches not present in MX player SW or HW modes, glitches disappear after a software reset

    - there might be some ocnnection between the new samples with warm hue/ripple and the used sample with no ripple/pure white, maybe the glue has to settle in on use?

    - We turned them off and charged them till it's full before use (3 hours) battery is good so far, especially on the used one

    - no bad heat so far

    - they are all pretty damn fast!

the phone function well otherwise and should be acceptable for the non perfectionist, the only real worry if the flex get worse or better through usage

mine also have a very tiny gap from the left where you can see the in one point a point of glue, not so different from the gaps on my DHD (which i just noticed after 18 months that it does flex if i pressure hard too but doesn't creeck)

there is some glue pooping out inside the micro USB port and also some dirt was under the "im the one for you" sticker on the screen i had to wet wipe it to get rid of it, mine has a slight warm hue, i prefer cold but its not yellow tinted in fact its better than my boss iPad3 i hope it goes away as the glue settles more, my phone update here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24858562&postcount=525

now the software glitch, the used white one had the glitch in every video in the gallery only in landscape goes away on portrait, MX player played them fine while still glitching in gallery

No point in fouling ourselves in here, HTC is struggling in building and rushed this thing, especially software and the glue parts (shocking its glued as it is) and apparently QC is tolerating whats they consider acceptable for the average user

they are apparently silent because only a foul would believe they don't know it, they will iron it out and those who complain they will replace it for them

i advice you guys not to struggle and exchange now, you either have to hand pick your one or better replace it later than now, so you get newer samples, otherwise give up on this thing if you can't tolerate

The glitch are 100% software so don't panic (MX player is the proof since it uses HW decoding too) HTC will update this sooner than later, they are silent not to cause panic and mostly likely this is the big bug that put the reviews on hold

i did not encounter any crazy screen thing...like flicker or jumping crazy...yet

the phones impressed every one who saw it and me pointing these things out they called me picky

Thought you guys might be interested in this as well. I flashed the English repacked 1.28.1400.6 Chinese update, and here's what I found. I'll try to keep this list updated as I discover more. All questions are welcome!
    Okay, here we go :)

I installed it as well. Did a full wipe, flashed the 'tomcr'-file first, then the ROM, and finally the boot.img via fastboot. Restored all my apps via Titanium Backup, rebooted, wiped /cache and dalvik-cache, and gave the phone some time to build caches again.
    A few things I noticed:

    The good:
    • The NvCPL Service finally works for me as well.
    • The glitch in the drag-down menu is gone.
    • Screen on/off button responds REALLY fast, feels quite amazing!
    • Calendar widget no longer crashes.
    • 'Certain days not showing up/or being double'-bug is gone.
    • All Tegra-games work fluently now.
    • Three-dot menu is gone in YouTube, so I suppose it's probably gone in some other apps as well. (Suggestions which on I should check?)
    • Feels a little smoother overall.
    The bad:
    • Force 2D-GPU Rendering still won't stick
    • Rosie still slows down a little with a lot of widgets, though it seems better than before.
    • The bug in the timer-app is still there.
    • Call-settings menu is still laggy/slow.
    • Screen-flicker on maximum brightness is still there.
    • Screen jumping in certain areas is still there.
    • Screen gradient background when (un)installing app still isn't smooth.
    • Live wallpaper still stops moving when scrolling through homescreens.
    The neutral:
    • The type of data connection (G/3G/H) always shows, even when connected to wifi
    • There is no option to add Google Account (probably due to the Chinese origin, as Paul suggested)
I'll keep playing with it and report back :) So far, looks like a great update, can't wait for the WWE-version!

    so much drama

ok Im a newbie, not even a tech savvy one. I join this forum because I love phones particularly HTC phones. Here's my 2 cents:

-the HTC one X is a different direction from previous models of HTC. It's a completely new manufacturing technology so I would expect to be a few glitches and defects during the first or second batch. Also, given their abysmal financial results in the last months and the size of their company, I guess they were under pressure to roll out production quickly to capture the market before the SIII or Iphone5. All in all that would affect A SMALL PORTION of the total products.

-ALL phones have defects/ issues in their launch. When was this phone released? At most 2 weeks ago. It's gonna take some time to get all of them fixed. But they will be fixed. All the glitches/ issues/ defects are magnified because of the anticipation people have for this phone but the people w the problems will be the ones w the loudest mouths. Why dont you go and see that the majority have had a great experience w it? Bashing the whole product/ company for a few defective units is so irrational and dramatic.

-Comparing HTC with Samsung or Apple to me has always been super unfair and biased. People forget that HTC is so small compared to Samsung (the biggest Asian electronic firm w a gazillion of products) and Apple (having the largest amount of cash?) so how can HTC compete w them in terms of customer service (which I think HTC has done pretty well), price, the best and latest technology. I think overall HTC has done a pretty damn good job compared to the aforementioned firms, Sony and Motomobi.

-Sense is great. Arent you all tech savvy? If you dont like it you can always root the phone or change the launcher. No big deal. And its not like HTC is the only one who does that so I dont get why some people keep targeting HTC because of it.

-I like how people keep bashing HTC and wish them to go out of business. W Motomobi down, Sony struggling, do you all really want Android to be monopolized by Samsung? Nothing against them but their fan boys are so freaking annoying it's hard to watch reviews of ANY product w/out seeing them bashing that product and thanks to them I'm turned off by Samsung forever (used to be a decent fan). So I guess if HTC is dead this year I'll jump to WP as much as I hate M$.

Again this is my perspective as a normal consumer who knows well enough about phones but not enough to be called an "expert". I will get this phone ASAP because it looks so beautiful and it works great for the majority of people. And if I have issues I will try to exchange it. If the issues are not so major and dont affect my life substantially I'll leave w it, just like my cousin has been living w his buggy laggy blue-tinged SII.

    Peace.
