First of all,
Our hardware is a poor, outdated msm7627a which cannot handle USB, ie, it cannot serve as a host to the USB because to become a host, you need to supply a minimum current of some ampere to power up and initialize data transfer..
Now, our motherboard cannot give out that much ampere for OTG to work! Which is why I have stated in OP you need an externally powered OTG
Next, this is not a Qualcomm factory feature. It is a hack. And hacks may not always work. For some it may work, for some it doesn't xD
Secondly, you said you face issues.
This is extremely normal if you are using any ROM by Imer or any ROM which is based on Imer's sources ...
Because the dude is using some outdated stuff and has not updated to KK ION 2.7 which causes some incompatibility issues with the ROM.
Try any ROM by TeamHackLG (big respect to them) especially Vanir (I'm told by @WinterR) and feel the difference

I`m not going to change ROM (LiquqdSmooth MileStone 3.2 KK by Imer) which is available at present, on what or another.
Support USB OTG on it ROM is only necessary.

imer roms are not optimized to work on skernel and its natural that u get many bugs and unstability.. there may be no help in this case ( only one in which imer updates his roms) and secondly with otg connections as skyinfo said u need to have an externally powered otg cables even for it to work and i assume a patch cannot be released seperately(u should contact imer for patch in his kernel), if you want to get best out of skernel then flash any teamhacklg source based rom and try (vanir my be best,try and see) gud luck

But when I connect it to the phone the stick is not detected and the phone is loading the accu.
Must I do something more to enable USB OTG?

Is this the Vanir ROM you're talking about? .Currently using IMER's rom and I'll switch and test the difference

Also this is a test release, I am reconsidering on my decision to stop dev-ing for L series
below kernels are no nfc, will work on all variants of L5 & L7
Please give feedback, since I haven't tested them myself, I'm on stock now
Also, I seem to have found the issue with no boot on Lollipop for L5 so next test/prefinal will get booted on Lollipop
