The thing that annoys me most is I used double tap home button to start the camera. The physical power button is too far. Other than that I never liked on screen buttons but since Note 8 I'm starting to accept them. Small bezel help it a lot.

I hate it. The huge screen is still kinda gimmicky for me and not worth the loss of the hardware keys and usable fingerprint scanner. The Note 7 was literally perfect in its design, the Note 8 will take some getting used to.

Gimmicky? It is the entire point of the phone, truly. Real estate is necessary for the multi-window features.

Just hard-press area where home button is. No need to wait for anything to show up.
Actually I very rarely use home button, by saying home button I actually mean all 3 buttons and it's only the back button that I use all the time and that's the one that gives me all the headaches. I actually wouldn't care if other buttons didn't exist at all, but the back button is used to clear messages, come back from menu etc. and when driving the car it is hit and miss, especially when you have to watch the road.

I get that, but the multi window worked just fine on the Note 7. Keep in mind I've only had the phone for 6 hours so I'm still getting used to it. Take my opinion with a grain of salt. I hated the curved edges on the Note 7 when I first got it and ended up mourning their loss when I had to turn the phone back in. I'm sure after getting used to the screen on the 8 I won't be able to even look at another device the same.

Yeah I went back to my Pixel momentarily to move over some photos and just laughed. It feels like a toy now. I'm sure you'll adjust, as you said.

Cmon Dan, you were like a powder keg of hate ready to blow on the slightest lag or any other perceived fault. lol Now you're like the rest of the Note aficionados, smitten. It's ok though, the Note series is like a dog you want to hate but you end up loving it despite all the faults. Lots of people have walked down that path, myself included. :)

I think the lack of home button would be easier to swallow if the navbar wasn't light grey and didn't seem to have a mind of its own. If it could be set to black it would be infinitely better. My whole theme is dark except for this ugly thing.

Yeah I'm really getting annoyed by this navbar. Samsung really didn't implement it well. If I set it to auto hide, its hidden by default on my launcher which is ridiculous, but when I leave it up, I have a nasty light gray bar on the side when I'm watching "full screen" FB videos. So at the end of my first day I would still rather have a shorter screen and hard buttons. I hope they fix this soon because it's really souring my experience. I don't mean to be complaining so much but I've been waiting for this phone since the Note 7 fiasco and this is a massive disappointment. The rest of the phone so far is seriously killer though.

Not in the least, using transparent nav bar layer and I have a gigantic screen. If you want black nav bar always use this. Install like an app and reboot, go to settings>display>nav bar>back ground color>select black>push slider to the right
I installed the black bar but it doesn't show a slider to adjust it. Any ideas? If I select apply settings navbar turns black, but more while typing this message its still white and i can't choose any other color. 1505547403757.jpg

I have no idea how I missed this. Major game changer for me. The haptics even make it feel like you're physically clicking the screen. Genius. You just turned my disappointment into pure joy. I tip my hat to you good sir.

Is your a snap dragon or exynos and did you reboot before looking for the setting. I'm using a T-Mobile variant snap dragon. I also think different carriers have different settings on the same device.

This is why I love xda. I installed it and now my ugly light gray nav bar is black. Between this and finding about about the hard press home button, I now have zero complaints about the navbar, aside from the fingerprint scanner which I know I'll get used to. Thanks to you guys, my love affair with this bad boy starts right now.

I installed this and can see the black option added, but no slider to adjust its transparency... so it changed nothing really.

There was a slider yesterday, I had an update this morning from T-Mobile and it's gone now. Just select the black and back out of the app, it's working for me.
I selected the black but on verizon I saw no change. (I am using nova launcher though.. maybe it won't permit the change?
