Just got the Xoom thursday. Been using it since then. Only got a handful applications & songs. Find it laggy & unresponsive sometimes.

Advice? **** for a dual core. Use it only in portrait. Unrooted.

If you have opted not to root or install a custom kernel, then the first step I would take in cutting down on any lag is to install a different launcher.

I can recommend ADW Launcher, LauncherPro and GO Launcher. All are great, very customizable, a good deal smoother then the stock UI on Honeycomb and come in both free and donate versions.

Install all three and try them each out, choose the one that suits you best.

Don't use it in portrait, problem solved!

I am serious though, tablet runs like **** in portrait. It isn't made for it.

I've gone to portrait no more than 2 times since launch. Landscape is much better, afterall.. it is a landscape tab

I'm running 3.1 and I don't really see the supposed UI hardware acceleration improvements. Sometimes swiping screens is pretty fluid and smooth, but many times after getting out of an application, the home screen will stutter into place and some initial swipes are jerky.

I occasionaly use the tablet in portrait when reading comics, using ConnectBot, Nzbget, Words with Friends etc, apps that force portrait and while I agree that it takes longer than it should to switch to portrait, once there it doesn't have any problems.

I am rooted with Tiamat kernel installed and OC'd to 1.4ghz but I don't remember there being any issues even before I did this.

Like P2flol said though, the Xoom was designed to be used in landscape... as all honeycomb tabs have been.
