I plan on doing the same thing.

Ordered two of the link below thanks to your testing.
hxxp://wwx.sparkfun.com/products/9614

Plan on soldering them together to make a clean adapter. (Without the +5v connected, or with to power a beagleboard using the OTG port)

Had to de-link the post b/c I'm a "new" poster... long time lurker though
I seen that breakout board before, that plus a hdmi micro female epoxied and coated would be ideal for sure. I thought about just adding a real hdmi and usb to the lapdock but that would be around 25 tiny wires and more trouble then its worth.

Wouldnt that board block the hdmi port on the lapdock

this is an awesome concept! I am going to look at possibly making a pseudo dummy phone to put in the dock side for cleanliness. Gonna give a shot at plastic welding...
Your gonna use that board from spark wire and that connector from deal extreme and put in a dummy phone?

I've got one of those DealExtreme adapters on order, but it's been a week and they're still waiting on the supplier. Moreover, you'd need that adapter, a coupler, and then the HDMI cable, right? I just ordered these on eBay:

wwx.ebay.com/itm/140626354628

wwx.ebay.com/itm/140599435227

I figure that ought to be sufficient for a number of hdmi devices. USB is what needs work, and a number of you already have that in the works.

Also, for you guys worrying about these adapters fitting, once you pry apart the dock portion, the wires give you plenty of play. I've been using my lapdock without the port cover so I can plug my Atrix in while in it's Defender case.

ChicoKiri,
You picked the right parts but unfortunately, you do not want to use that coupler. The dock was designed to charge the device that is plugged into it by sending out 5volts. If you plug it in as is, you will most likely fry the computer plugged into it. This is why you need to make sure the 5 volt line is NOT connected to the host device. (And why I'm making a custom adapter)
+5v is sent through usb, he linked hdmi couplers

Hrm.... yeah, my fault. Unfortunately, my HDMI adapters are on backorder. Should have my USB breakouts this week though. I guess I was just thinking about the parts I'll actually have than what that user had purchased.

Does anyone know if the usb keyboard and mouse work without the hdmi connected? I'd love to be able to test this in case the hdmi adapters take a while to get here.

Once the lapdock sees an hdmi signal it turns the usb on and the keyboard / mouse work like they should. I tested it out on my linux desktop machine and it worked flawless.

Yea that's the plan. Just worried about the board being too big and blocking the HDMI like another member mentioned. Take that breakout board with an hdmi one (lots of wires errr) and weld up a small plastic box to house it all is the plan. May just use the dealsextreme adapter in the box. Surely there would be room especially if my dummy phone is more of a box that sits on there with rubber stays.I'm measuring my lapdock out now.

I'm not that smart enough to understand what you guys are talking about with the usb and dummy phone project.......can anyone put it in simpler terms what you guys are trying to do?

The lapdock is pretty much a dummy usb kb/mouse & hdmi display. We're pointing out different things that could be done w/ it. Ie, a very small system on chip w/ usb ports & an hdmi out would allow the lapdock to be used as a cheap & light netbook-y unit w/o the phone plugged in.

But mainly, it's the fact that you can use the lapdock as an 11" hdmi monitor w/ audio for pretty much anything. :)

I received the lapdock today, and flipped the connectors around for my Atrix 2 which was relatively easy.

I want to use it with my Atrix 2 which it works, but it only does Webtop, and the place where you would normally toggle whether to do webtop or mirror theres an error message that doesnt allow you to do change between the two which basically says This device is not optimized to run on the Lapdock

My question is there any way to get around that error message, I would really prefer to have it mirror instead of webtop.

Is there a file I can edit on phone, is there an hdmi wire I can snip that tells the atrix 2 its a webdock connected to it.

I used titanium backup to freeze Webtop 1.0 and when I plug into the dock it doesnt send any hdmi signal at all, the keyboard and trackpad work though.

Would running the hdmi wire through an hdmi extension kill the signal that says its a webdock connected to Atrix 2?

Would running the lapdck through my atrix 2 hd dock make it see it as a regular hdmi screen? And would running a usb cable extension from the lapdock with +5 connected damage the atrix 2 hd dock?

i'm assuming your device is rooted? There's some preliminary mirroring available in the android dev section, but I think native mirroring was introduced for atrix 2 and the new lapdock
