The plug for the lapdock's I'm thinking are the same as the HDMI media dock. This dock just had a battery, keyboard, screen and mouse, otherwise they are the same docks. (HDMI dock/lapdock) So I don't htink an extension would kill it, but microHDMI female to male are pretty rare.

I am using the Atrix 2
right but why you want the regular lapdock (save for price) escapes me. You'll have to hash together an extension cable because the ports will be flipped and backwards and like I said, preliminary mirroring for the ATRIX 4G is on our boards, if there is mirroring for the Atrix 2, I'd assume its on the A2 boards. The A2 and A4G aren't truly compatible though (different chips, etc.) so that's completely up to the cooks in the A2 forums

The lapdock was $50 and I already flipped the ports, I am using the atrix 2 on the lapdock and webtop mode works fine, the only thing preventing me using it with mirror mode is the message that says "this device isnt optimized...."

thought maybe this could help someone..
found this on ebay after lots of searching for the female micro type b cable..

hxxp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270798436083

as OP mentioned, probably a good idea to cut the 5V trace or perhaps modify this cable if using with something other than your phone.

i will be using it with the following for hdmi functionality:
hxxp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280761232832

not a perfect solution, but should work nicely.

Micro HDMI (Female) to anything but micro HDMI female (they don't even amke those) are pretty hard to find. I've only found one chinese supplier on eBay and then there is another one on some web site... but I think they both come from the eBay supplier.

That's the incorrect cable, you need it to be micro HDMI and not micro USB.
i linked both the micro hdmi type d female to micro hdmi type d female coupler to which ill attach a micro hdmi type d male to hdmi male in addition to the micro usb cable, because, i do in fact want microusb to connect the keyboard and trackpad to a computer via usb.

micro hdmi for video and sound, micro usb for keyboard and mouse.

if also used the xbox 360 and it works great.

I just purchased a female micro HDMI to female micro HDMI before reading this thread. When I noticed the "No HDMI Input" I got curious and purchased the adapter. The adapter was $10 and you can just use the micro HDMI to HDMI cable that came with the phone. When it comes in, I will report back with pics and video if requested. I am worried that the small gap between the micro HDMI input and micro USB input wouldn't let the adapter squeeze in there. In that case, hopefully a little sanding on the edges with the dremel can do the trick. :p

I was guessing, with everything said here, it would be possible to connect my htc evo 4g THROUGH the laptop dock hdmi cable?

Yes, this should work fine. Any hdmi device should play nice.

I recieved my cables and adapters mentioned in my previous posts over the holiday and will take some pictures soon. Oddly enough, the seller of the item i linked for the micro hdmi coupler hsa since jacked up his price from what i paid ($9.99), to a whopping -$49.99-! Not sure what the seller is smoking, but it does seem to be a very niche item. A little hunting and you can find the item much closer to the $10 price i and others paid.

I've tested video input via HDMI with a fat PS3, Sony bluray and Toshiba Hd-dvd players, as well as a Sanyo Xacti digital camcorder. One downside to using the hdmi input with generic devices like a bluray player or game system is the lack of volume controls available. Fortunately it seems to be at a reasonable volume.

I havent gotten around to playing with the usb input for the keyboard and touchpad

edit: I forgot to mention that the adapters I purchased fit together perfectly snug side by side on the original positioning of the lapdock connectors, no shaving of the adapters needed!

Has anyone figured out a way to mute the sound on the lap dock? I'm using an Xbox 360 and apparently there is no way to mute the sound in the settings of the Xbox.
