whenever that happens, I just unplug the nexus, pull the USB thumb drive and plug it back it. Plug in nexus... and it works..

my question.. is anyone running lollirock 2.1 having issues with installing busybox? Not sure if it's the USB storage causing the issue.

Looking at the ability in Android M to move both app code (APKs) and private app data to external usb devices, would that be easier/useful than this?

Just asking.... :D

Can't make this stick with lollirock on second boot, no matter how many times I tried. First boot is great, second, nothing. Too bad.

I haven't used the data2usb boot image yet but I have an issue with external drives period not connecting after a reboot, I reboot, its not there, I power them down completely, and unplug their USB, then I power the nexus down, replug them in, and start the nexus player. For my nexus its almost as if it can't mount the drives because they're behaving as if they're still mounted, from before the reboot. So maybe try just unplugging them and following those couple steps and maybe your storage will come back. But if you meant your kernel fully reverted to stock then **** man ouch

Nope, unplugging and shipping down and plugging back does nothing. I generally have no issues with external drives being recognised on my powered hub. Lollirock is stable as it gets and generally everything works. Just the damn storage space that Google launched this with, plain sucks. Android M can't come soon enough. In the mean time this seems best solution, and I would gladly sacrifice some speed for storage. Alas, can't make it stick. I noticed once it boots first time and data gets written to the sd card, it kinda locks and refuses to boot. Data wipe through recovery does not help. I have to take out the card, reformat it clean, reflash player, and it boots again. One time only. Then rinse and repeat.

Same here. Everything I try works on first boot. I've even tried flashing, booting, setup and then reboot (without installing updates or apps), and still nothing.

So I was using lollirock and decided I wanted data2usb functionality, flashed your image and it boot looped which I was expecting. So I decided to get dirty and I opened up the boot image of lollirock and edited the fstab to direct /data to be searched for in /sda1 instead of my internal data partition, and it boot looped, any other tips on how to enable data2usb? Sorry I'm a little new

I found that reason to NP reboot fail

Because usb format to ext4 on windows (partition wizard)

I formated using linux disk manager and check system option (on disk manager format option)

Now dont show reboot fail

Can use 256GB external USB!!

Thank you!!!

Guys, is it mandatory to format the partition as primary? Or simply formatting on TWRP as ext4 should do the trick? I'm asking cause apparently formatting as primary reduces the available storage by 2 GB! (Using partition wizard).

Edit:
Well, I figured that TWRP by itself is enough to make it work with Lollirock. Using it with a 32 GB USB drive, ,but the system got way slower than before, apparently because the flash storage goes to sleep from time to time. Is this expected to happen? For people trying to install this on Lollirock, just make sure to format the USB on TWRP and change its file system to ext4. First boot takes a while, but works.

I noticed that. It is super slow, especially when dealing with media files as in Kodi.... this blows!

Yeah, it's a pretty good addition, but at least with USB flash drives it's kinda useless, so I'll just use my USB to store emulator games. At least till m gets its final release, then we can try Googles solution.
