Laser focus on the regular G4?

So I know the G4 Plus is supposed to be the only one with laser focus, however if you look closely above the camera lens on the regular G4 it has two lenses hidden behind the black glass that look like the laser focus lenses on the G4 Plus. Anyone else noticed this? Perhaps it has it and it is just disabled via software?

The second 'lens' might be the light sensor (for auto brightness etc) but I am not too sure, my G4 hasn't even arrived yet!

The sensor for screen brightness is next to the front facing camera lens, not the back.

How would that be if any use if you cover it while holding the phone in landscape to take a photo?

I assume this would be compiled in the kernel... Possible to use the plus kernel and see? ... Might need the camera app from the plus too?

Added** looking at a tear down video, the laser is plainly in the phone.... I wonder if it is capable of being enabled or if it is missing more hardware...

If you have an infrared-enabled camera, you'll notice that the sensor you mention is blinking non-stop, even with the screen turned off. You can also see that on DetroidBORG's unboxing video: youtu.be/frMVafZiVe0?t=3m25s

Do you have a link to a teardown of the regular G4? I see some for the G4 Plus, would really like to compare the camera modules internals side by side.

I have not been able to find a non plus tear down. However, looking closely at the plus tear down and comparing the laser hardware with what is visible on our devices... It is pretty clear the laser is there. I wonder if we couldn't just flash a plus firmware and see if it works. Only thing that would be missing would be the fingerprint reader.

Wow, look at that... Pretty obvious the hardware is there and doing something...

I flashed the elemental X kernel originally built for the plus and have not noticed the laser to be working... I wonder now if there is a switch in the firmware somewhere...

Hay hardware this app detected 19 sensors before I flashed the ex kernel and 19 after but I see two sensors of interest. There is a rear proximity sensor showing up and a camera activation sensor.

Yes downloaded sensor list app and it's a rear proximity sensor and it works. Idk if it's laser though. I get out put showing on the app.

As it is said here, it is a rear proximity sensor, it is for the Moto display funtion, so when the sensor detects that you put the phone out of your pocket or you took it from a table or desk, it shows you the moto display... I don't think that the laser can be saw with the camera... if so, imagine that photos with a dot in somewhere...
