Yes. I was quite surprised when I first ran the IMEI check. Its pretty old.

Manufacture date: November 06, 2017
Shipped from factory: November 08, 2017
Estimated phone age: 3 Month(s), 1 week(s), 3 day(s)
thats why i asked :) having a 128 black myself and wondered if google is even manufacturing them recently. i guess, there are no units around and probably never will be. should of gone with the 64 model. at least their newer ones dont have the blue tint. mine is horrible on a 11/1 mf date.

how is yours? getting blue when doing the slightest tilt?

---------- Post added at 05:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:17 PM ----------

I've had 3 Pixel 2 XL's. The best of the 3 was manufactured in November. The other ones were from January.
does this also apply to the blue tint? as i read this much by now, that im pretty sure, that blue tint is getting less on average with recent units. ofc there are exceptions.

Yeah blue tint is a bit excessive. Definitely more than devices I've had before but it doesn't really bother me. I adjust my screen to vivd warm using night shift 24 hours a day on all my devices anyways. I did run that app that was suggested to me and was unable to find anything else wrong with the screen at all. No dead pixels, graininess, banding or anything else. I would never send it back just based on the blue tint personally.

The blue tint is the same on all 3 devices. It's definitely noticeable.

I'm sorry, but couldn't disagree more, and every review and analysis out there about the Pixel 2 XL mentions the screen.

Take this video as an example:

:victory:
Yeah my first 4/5 phones were like this but last ones have been money. Very little to no blue shift. Getting into Samsung territory now just not as bright

My 2xl was...
Manufacture date: January 03, 2018
Shipped from factory: January 05, 2018
The blue shift isn't bad enough to bother me. My old S7Edge has a rainbow effect when tilted.
I was more bothered by the crush and smearing at low brightness. Since disabling adaptive brightness and using Screen Balance it's much better though.

even the january devices?
Yes even them. If anything the blue tint is more noticeable for me on the Jan devices because of their much warmer screen tone. It's so warm there's a dirty yellow tone to them.

I have compared a total of 5 pixel 2 XL's: 3 were from Jan, 1 from Nov and 1 from Oct:
- They all have grain. The grain on the Jan units is the most noticeable. The one with the least grain is the Nov unit.
- All units but the Nov one had uniformity problems; screens not smooth, dirty effects, lines, etc. Not noticeable in normal day to day use I'm sure, but obvious when using the display tester app, especially on dark grey background.
- The Oct unit had bad burn in where the nav bar is.
- They all had blue tint, to the same level. Nov unit is less noticeable due to the colder screen tone.

I looked at some units on display in different stores, they all had grain and blue tint. Couldn't exactly check to what level.

For the sake of it I also had a look at two LG V30's, one in store and one that belongs to my friend. My friend's unit had no grain and no blue tint, and as uniform as my Nov Pixel 2XL (which is OK).
The one in store had no grain and no blue tint either but could not test for uniformity.

As the November unit is the best of them all I am keeping it (I've even applied the Whitestone Dome protector on it to commit to it, best SP out there no doubt).

Only 3 things will make me change my phone now:
1) There's official confirmation of a new hardware revision with a revised and proven better screen (RMA for Pixel 2XL).
2) My phone gets a defect I cannot live with (RMA for Pixel 2XL).
3) Pixel 3XL is better than Pixel 2XL in every way (Buy Pixel 3XL).

By the way I'm in France so I'm getting units from the UK and Germany.

Google did not go the extra mile to secure the best possible screens for their 2XL, I am very curious to know if they had absolutely no choice but to use subpar screens (and why they had no choice), or if they were just cheap about it and couldn't care less.
The Samsung screens on the HTC built Pixels aren't trash, so why are LG's? They obviously can make grainless and tintless screens (cf. V30), so what's up with Pixel 2XL?

Almost no blue tint when looking off-axis, but I do notice some colour shifting on white backgrounds. Sometimes it gets to a warmer tone (yellow), other times cooler (blue).
I am glad that I am not the only one that can see this color tone changing while brightness level is changed. Bellow some level of brightness is display more cooler and above warmer. It is best noticable on white background. At the first half of brightness level white seems to be more grey. This is a one of my two complaints to display.

The other one is that dark colors are splahing into one black mass while you not using hi level brightness. It is noticable in dark games scenes or movies where is lack of details.

my pixel 2xl is from: November 08, 2017

Have my 6th Pixel 2 XL now and sorry guys but Google is not changeing anything on their devices...

I have had 2 devices from october, one from november and 3 out of january. My actual one is from 11thJan manuf. date... Bluetint still persistent, less grainyness, little colder than the other 2 devices out of jan which were too warm (yellow green screen). I've given up now... There is no Improvement on newer devices. It is still a really big spread of the displays into the field.. every screen of the 6 devices looked different.... never seen a spread like this when it comes to screens.. Will keep the device I have now, but only because there is no device on the market which can do things better than the XL except the screen...

On mine I just noticed a sign of burn in problem on right top corner where are battery and signal indicators. It is noticable on grey background. I am using phone only for three months. I am a little bit worried in what condition the display will be after a year.

I can also see brighter area at the place where is navbar but it is not as bad because I am using Navbar app.

Hmm I tried the iPhone X, a couple, and there was some color shifting yes. But not even close to how badly the XL2 blue shifts. The Apple store X unit shifted to blue, and oddly the T-Mobile units seemed to shift pink or red. However the iphone X gave me a splitting headache just after a minute so I couldn't use it (that's a whole other issue), nor did I want the iOS UI either!
Still happy with my Pixel 2 here.

I have not studied the issue in detail, but I believe the black smearing is when #000 black is used (ie: the pixel is full OFF). I think the time to turn just Red Green or Blue bit on to 00000001 takes far too long (in the milliseconds range) that causes pure black to appear to smear. I bet if they just boosted pure black to the smallest gray value, similar to #010101, to keep the pixel "powered", this might go away. I could be wrong, maybe super-dark but not pure black also does it, but that's not my experience. I have videos and apps which are quite dark but not "OLED black" and they seem fine. But I enable the "OLED black" theme in them and suddenly it's much easier to get that smearing/bleeding action.

By the way I'm in France so I'm getting units from the UK and Germany.
Hi there,

How? Have you been exchanging phones by contacting Google? Or are you just buying random ones and returning/selling them? I've been wanting to buy one (I'm in France too with no official sales from Google) but these screen problems really bum me out. And my Nexus 6P battery is getting pretty bad :/

Thanks!

I've been getting them through RMA yes. Basically they don't sell in France but support exchanges to France, as long as you bought it from the play store in the first place (got my first one through the UK play store during one my trips there).
They ship the replacement units to an address of your choice in France, and once you receive it you send back the faulty unit for free (they send you a return label to stick to the box, you return via UPS). You even get units with a European charger plug (the standard 2 pin plug used in France). I mean even the box has french writing. They're French market ready but somehow they decided to skip us.
At least I got it for £699 (£100 off at the time), that's about €780 instead of the €939 they would have priced it at in France (that's how much the 64Gb Black costs in Germany).

If you're ready to get one I can see the £100 off deal is up on the UK play store again.
But yeah in comparison to the N6P's screen, the 2 XL's is really bad, you will notice the difference, even if you're lucky and you get one of the "better" screens like I did. After a month I'm used to it so it doesn't bother me anymore but you might not have the same tolerance level.
However the software experience is unmatched imo, I love how straight forward and smooth everything is. Not a single stutter. The battery life is great (I charge every 2 days, sometimes 3 days when I use it less than usual), and the camera is amazing.

Ordered two Just Black 128gb unlocked 2xls from Google direct in the past two weeks. The first one had a build date of October 27, 2017 and the second one (just arrived yesterday) had one of October 17, 2017. Needless to say, both phones had the same level of smurf-blue tint. The older one did have more noticeable graininess though. My question is why Google is shipping 4 month old phones from older stock in March 2018? Have the stopped producing Just Black 128GB unlocked models? Are RMA versions of this EXACT same model just as old or are the newer? I realize the 64GB may be more popular so maybe they're producing a lot more of them continually.

Submitted my return claims this morning and just dropped them off at FedEx....may wait till next month and try my luck again.

64gb Panda build date mid December. Other than low light situations, display is fine. Everything else is wonderful and an upgrade coming from a Pixel XL.

64gb models are more popular so I'm not surprised if they're still producing them. I'm asking about Just Black 128gb unlocked models (that i don't think are that popular).

Yep. The panda version gained more popularity after release, all the cool YouTubers have one haha, and it's a better design imho, maybe even iconic of their design direction. It stands to reason that these will be newer than Just Black stock. You could always get a panda and use a black case. Or get a Just Black 64GB, like you said they are probably more popular than the 128, and therefore newer stock being shipped.
(Still enjoying my Pixel 2 with no screen issues)
