The added benefits of higher display panels is that they are easier on the eyes :) Especially if you am into reading books or PDF that's where the extra pixels shine :)

I can read texts just fine. This screen has less DPI than my phone (240 vs 342), but it as sharp.

Very disappointed with the screen resolution, needs to be higher for a premium tablet.

Will skip this one :(
So you skip the whole device JUST because of resolution? I mean, the screen is already VERY good with the 1080p.

I think he's gonna skip it because the real world advantages over the original tablet Z are minimal

Which is basically true for every phone and tablet release for the last year or so in most situations.

Excluding a few that lagged behind in screen resolution(Samsung's Galaxy Note series for example), generally all tablets now are "fast enough" and the screen resolutions are "high enough".

Yes, higher than 1920x1200 could be a visual plus. But I'm sure Sony probably realized that for most people, it's more than high enough(I honestly can't tell the difference in quality compared to the new Galaxy Note's or even against a Nexus 10) and the cost increase it'd push would be more than what the market would bear for the device.

Much of the premium cost associated with this line is the form factor(materials used, thin/light build, water resistance) which actually drives up cost quite a bit compared to other performance oriented functions.

Most models are no longer going to be such a jump in capabilities that it demands a yearly cyclical upgrade path. I'm guessing closer to 2-3 years from here on out. Battery life is about the only remaining area where huge advancements are still necessary, but for most, the devices have reached an adequate level of performance(some users may still demand more and be willing to pay for incremental increases).

It's a reasonable jump. If it's thinner, lighter, faster and possibly a little more efficient on a similar sized battery, that's a big advancement. Plus the screen should be a bit improved in color reproduction as well.

I'm still very satisfied with my original Tablet Z, so I don't feel the need to shell out cash for an upgrade yet. Maybe in a year or so.

@tullnd: well said
I returned my tf701 so I only have a transformer prime which only has a 1280 resolution screen and a tegra 3, both of which need an upgrade esp the tf is notorious for having lot of lag. The z2 should be money well spent. I do want to squeeze more battery life so I welcome the 1920 resolution. I think even if you can tell the difference of the ultra hd, you are better off with the 1920 resolution just because of the battery life.

Guys, here we have a jump of 0.8Ghz in processor clock frequency and one more Gb of RAM to handle BUT the same battery capacity as Xperia tablet Z. Software improvement may be mighty, and that I don't know for sure, but numbers don't lie: are we going to regret this upgrade in terms of battery drain? :(

Due to the new processor technology, it is more power efficient than the S4 Pro. The resolution will be the same, meaning the biggest battery drainer won't be affected.

And more RAM should consume that much battery, the difference will be to small to even notice. Kinds the same with Xperia Z vs Z1. The Z1 has a much better processor than Z, but the battery lasts more.

I have nothing to complain about my Tablet's battery life.

I am truly impressed they managed to make the battery size exactly the same, but with more RAM, better processor, and a even thinner and lighter device, without compromising a single mm in the bezels...

Good news, thank you.
Do you know how much It takes to Sony, on average, to update after google releases the last version of Android?

They generally take a good while, sadly. They have been getting better over time, but they are still not THAT good when it comes in number of big updates. I wish, or expect, however, that the first gen Z line (my classification, includes Z, ZL and Tablet Z) will get at least Android 4.5 (or 5.0, don't know the next number).

They have the same processor Nexus 4 has, so drivers won't be an excuse for Sony, like it was for XS.

Is it the same processor as the Sirius, I mean the same refreshed s800? What about the stylus/pen or and other things implementation? (like z ultra)

Surfing on youtube I've heard this tablet has a VARIANT of the Snapdragon 800 (just like "Sirius"). So goodbye updates over a short period XD
Nexus 5 has the original Snapdragon 800 so Sony has to work on the processor too :(

I live on a Stone Hill.
The batter life won't be that bad.

My nexus 5 has a small battery too but lasts surprisingly long even though it has a S800 processor.

The 2.5 ghz are meaningless because of throttling.

Also a higher resolution would result in too much performance loss.

I agree and my bank manager has just settled down and can reduce his meds! I am one of those who simply must have the latest and newest technology. SO FAR the new releases we are seeing coming from Barcelona have not interested me at all.

I have been very satisfied with the Xperia Z and cannot see the differences in the Z2 making me justify the expense of a change. To be honest I am rather pleased about this. This chasing the newest techno is starting to wear a tad thin.

Like many reviewers and posters have commented I would agree we have reached a plateau for now where we are operating to the point where the hardware is outperforming the software in terms of applications. Battery is the one massive hurdle to overcome.

I was hoping, however, for Sony to introduce a new smart watch but its not yet on the cards.

Pleased with the Xperia Z tablet and Xperia Z Ultra phablet plus the SBH52. Will now place an order for the smart watch. Looks like my wallet is going to get away this quarter lightly thank goodness :fingers-crossed:.

Agree...

There are A LOT of reasons the Z2 is a huge update. Maybe not that much from Z1, but from Z it is.

I've pre ordered mine, eta is 18th March :(

Am I right in assuming the magnetic charging port will be the same as the Z1/Ultra ?
As far as I know, yes.

Can't wait to have the Tablet Z2 system dump :excited:

Hang on maybe I have made a mistake? To the best of my knowledge Sony started with the S went to the Z, that we have, and are now introducing the Z2?

IF this is the case the difference between the tablet we have, the Sony Xperia Z and the new Z2 is processor speed up from 1.5 quad core to 2.2 quad core. No upgrade to screen or other specifications in that area. The Zi is thinner and lighter but that is an aesthetic value and will not affect performance? I have read two different RAM specs, one says the Z1 is still 2Gb, the other report saying it had 3Gb?

I would appreciate any further input you have please. If I have made a blooper I need to correct my post. I dislike to misinform readers.

I may well be incorrect on all counts.

Sony REALLY started with the Z1. Until Z, it was rest of Sony Ericsson.

From S, we then had T, then Z, the Z1 and now Z2. Differences from the Z1 To Z2: Slightly better processor, another Gb of RAM, IPS screen, noise cancelation, stereo front facing speakers, slightly difference in design, bugger screen, newer Android version, to mention a few.

From Tablet Z to Tablet Z2 (I don't like Z2 Tablet, and I refuse to call it so): Thinner, lighter, yet same battery size and dimensions (height and width) Better build (Aluminium borders), Magnetic Port, way faster processor, another Gb of RAM, Triluminos + X Reality, to mention a few.
