Yes and no..

Based on your current hboot.. which is HBOOT-1.00.0000..

You cannot achieve s-off through normal method available here..

But you can achieve s-off using XTC clip (need to buy as far as i know)..

thank you..

after reading this posting quite thoroughly I am resigned to the fact that I can only get S-Off via a HTC Clip (which costs at least £30)

does anyone know of a phone shop, website or individual who would do this for a small charge just like unlocking ? ...
even if this would mean posting off my phone.

using the great guides on here I have rooted my Legend and installed CM 7.1 and my phone shows:
Legend Put Ship S-ON
H-Boot – 1.00.0000
Microp 0816
Touch Panel SYN07_0103
Radio 7.13.35.05
Oct 13 2010, 15:49:09

the rom is great, but I do like to mess about with boot animations & sounds as I did with my last phone,
and need full r/w ability to start chopping and changing the files.

your second option could be using a kernel that has AUFS support like blayo's rom, AUFS gives you the option to change bootanimation, update superuser etc. while the phone is still loaded in android os.

thank you ...
that seems very interesting as I had not heard of AUFS, so will study up in the forum on it on then give it a go.

I have actually done some changes by unzipping my copy of CM7 and putting in my own boot animation etc,
but then had to learn 'signing' roms ... a long winded and clumsy approach I admit , but love tinkering even though I am not that clued up

For changing bootanimation it isn't necessarily to unzip. You can open the zip with i.e. 7-zip and change the bootanimation. The same can be done with other files i.e. hosts in the \etc\ folder.

I update my stuff with update package in cmw. When there is a new ROM then I install again my stuff. This is the easiest and the fast way to have your ROM up-to-date with your own stuff included.

on my previous phone I had full r/w capability and used to work exactly as you say.
which was quick and easy.
using Astrozip or ES Filermanager I copied the bootanimation.zip to my sdcard, then to my PC and reworked with winzip then simply replaced it.

so I see what you are saying and appreciate the suggestion ...
but it won't work with my current setup as I cannot copy back to system area, nor even rename anything, simply because I don't have R/W capability.

that is why I have resorted to decompiling and recompiling the rom

The update package is for ClockworkMod Recovery.
Put all your files in a package, see attached example CWM 3.

@waterpolo ... I really appreciate you sharing your time and knowledge,
but I simply am not getting it right ! ... something simple probably, but I fail to see my error.
clockwork flashed the zip I made with no errors, but I still got the CM7 boot screens.

when you have time please look at the 3 attached files
one is the original CM7 boot copied from phone's \system\media ... plus my bootanim and the updater I made

I had the same problem before, you need to also replace the bootanimation.zip located in \data\(don't remember the exact location tho probably the same as in \system)

I could not find any other bootanimation.zip, but have a mad idea in mind.

my phone originally had official HTC 2.2, which I then rooted with the great guide on here and now have CM7 7.01 Legend rom ..
all working fine except my failure at changing the boot anim.
bootloader shows:
Legend Put Ship S-ON
H-Boot – 1.00.0000
Microp 0816
Touch Panel SYN07_0103
Radio 7.13.35.05
Oct 13 2010, 15:49:09

despite the fact that that script runs fine in clockwork the boot anim remains unchanged.
I have even extracted it to sdcard, and it is still the CM7 graphics. so I'm getting to believe that the s-on is the problem ?

whatever, my mad idea is to run the official HTC RUU file which I have and go back to 2.2 then try again with boot anim.

can anyone advise if this would be safe to do, given that my phone has been rooted etc?
I don't mind messing about as I have shown, but would be totally lost if I could not get access to clockwork recovery.

I think there is a something wrong with your update package. Tomorrow I will check this and try to prepare working one.

I had post the update package for CWM version 2.
Another script has to be used with CWM version 3 or higher.

Attached is a working update package with the bios bootanimation (and modified hosts) from this post.
I tried also your posted bootanimation, but that one isn't working on my device. The screen stay black (no animation running).

You are free to add your bootanimation in the attached update example.

@waterpolo
many thanks indeed for all your help, especially at this time of year.

your attachment worked flawlessly in changing the stock CM7 boot animation !!
I still get black screen when I put in my boot anim, but will soon find out why this is.
it must be something and nothing, but I now have a lovely script to use.

can I take this opportunity to thank yourself and all the other 'devs' on here for all the great work you all do....
and in my case enabling a young 67 year old to further enjoy his great hobby.

I wish you and yours a healthy and wealthy New Year.
regards,
Kevin
